Description: Every morning in the city, Morning Training takes place to prepare the guests of the city for the war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on February 16th.

[At the abrupt appearance, Naoto blinks, focusing on the bottle and then the hand holding it. She sits up and reaches, accepting it into her hold. He didn't have to bring her this, but she does appreciate it]

[He nodded and straightened up, tossing his own canned coffee from hand to hand.]

How's your leg?

It's fine. I still can't apply too much weight on it for an ample period of time.

[Kanji went and had a seat.]

Y'don't need me to tell you not to push it. If that leg don't wanna move, it won't.

[He looked down at the grass.]

...'s good to see you outta the clinic, though.

[pishirogane]

[Don't mind her as she sips some tea. Yes, she almost had a few instances today where her leg almost caused her to fall over. Perhaps she should wear different shoes for a while...]

... Did I worry you that much?

[Well, nobody else was around, so...]

You were pretty sick when I came by after you got back from that mission. I was scared shitless.

[Probably didn't help that she said something about possibly getting worse before she got better. D-don't do that, Naoto.]

Then I came back the next day, you looked a lot better... then e-everything that happened...

[He trailed off. She told him she spoke what was on her mind that day, but did what she say still hold true?]

I apologize. I tried texting, but it was too difficult and staring at the screen was slightly nauseating after a while. Audio wouldn't have lessened your worry either.

[He probably would've assumed even worse. Sorry Kanji, she's pessimistic because optimistic.]

Oh... the chocolate. Of course...

[He had a mission the other day... they didn't have a chance to discuss this.]

Don't worry about it. You just weren't feelin' too hot.

[Kanji went quiet then. The chocolate... yeah. A lot happened two days ago, and a hell of a lot was said, whether either of them liked it or not. Without that candy loosening his lips, he felt those butterflies forming in his stomach again and was thankful he wasn't going to burst into song.]

[He looked ahead, setting his coffee on the grass to keep from fidgeting with it any further like an idiot. He sucked in a breath to try and calm his nerves, and pressed his hands to his knees.]

The chocolate ain't screwin' with us anymore. It pisses me off that it took some messed-up candy to say what I wanted, but... i-it's true, all of it.

D-did... y-you still wanna try?! [Whoops. Totally didn't mean to shout that last part.]

[pishirogane]

If you're sure.

[Naoto stared at the bottle as it rested on her lap, quiet as usual when Kanji spoke. She glanced at him from the corner of her eye when he mentioned that it was true, but then looked down when he nearly shouted, asking if she did mean what she had said.]

[That was the curious question of the hour. Did she really want to try? Now that she wasn't blurting everything the moment it came to mind, she was able to formulate her responses accordingly. Her grip tightened on her bottle]

Kanji-kun... Wouldn't you want to be with someone who's more comfortable in their skin? I struggled being friends with everyone on the Investigation Team and I don't know the first thing about more intimate relationships. [Besides the dangers that can result.]

W-well... me, neither. [His grip tightened over his knees, and he looked over.]

I'm still figurin' out what friends should do. I... didn't really have any until last summer. But that ain't stoppin' me from doin' what I can, bustin' my ass while learnin' what works, what doesn't. Maybe someday I'll have it all figured out.

[He breathed a quiet sigh. Ugh, when did it get ten degrees higher out here?]

I dunno shit about r-relationships... but I figure I'll try n' do what feels right. Not just for me, but for the other person, too.

But I ain't gonna push. Not with this. I don't want somebody else, Naoto-kun... but I want you to be comfortable. Even if it means droppin' the subject, movin' on.

[pishirogane]

[Naoto keeps her head low, frowning. Yes, they had both been in that situation actually being befriended and becoming friends with the others.]

[She bit the inside of her mouth, uncertain. Was it really only her? She doesn't understand. Yesterday, she didn't mind going along with it, but that was because he didn't mind her. And he just said it was all true.]

... I don't think dropping it would be that simple.

[She paused, closing her eyes to think. Would it be right though as inexperienced as they both are?]

If it doesn't work out, we'll still be friends at least, correct?

[She was right. It wouldn't have been that simple at all. Even if he put the option out there, dropping the subject entirely would have hurt a little, even if he'd force himself to deal. That was the thing about stepping outside of one's own comfort zone, opening up to others... you had to be ready for a few hits. He'd been thinking about this over and over since he left the clinic two days ago.]

[His reply to her question was a firm nod.]

Well... y-you're one'a my best friends, Naoto-kun. No matter what.

[He had to wonder if the chocolate was still in his system... he didn't think he'd ever talk about things like this.]

[She stares at him silently and nods. That was a relief, but it was similarly frightening. They were opening themselves in another way to be hurt. Naoto really hopes she's not making a mistake]

I... suppose... we could give this a try still then.

[topgun_textiles]

[He stared right back, his heart beating a tempo against his ribs. So... so that was that, then. Kanji looked up and away, unsure if he should do what he wanted to do right now or hold off for now since they were sitting in a park full of a ton of people that were p-probably watching and--]

...Yosuke-senpai won't shut up about it if he finds out.

[Well, it wasn't like Kanji was going to shout it from the rooftops, but of all the rumormongers and bigmouths in Death City, Yosuke was definitely one they both knew would be a little relentless about it.]

[pishirogane]

[Naoto watched Kanji closely, feeling her face heat. Now that she wasn't attempting to really analyze him or maintain her professionalism right now and just staring at him... it was a little too intense. She nodded, allowing herself to look away]

No... he most certainly wouldn't.

[She glanced towards the other Guests training]

... We'll be able to keep this a secret from him. [At least, she would.]

Ain't his damn business anyway. [And, uh, he may or may not be avoiding him after that horrible time he ran into Yosuke while under the chocolate influence.]

[Remembering his coffee, he reached for it and popped the tab. It was enough that Tifa drags him out of bed practically every morning to get here...]

Arisato-san, too, y'think? [He added casually, drinking. He wasn't sure he could handle another conversation like ... that last one. Now he really wasn't looking at her, the can held to his mouth as he tried to steer his mind clear of things like that.]

[pishirogane]

No, it's not. [She's most likely doing the same after almost telling him the past him died... That conversation would be awkward.]

[She paused, nearing another sip, but then nodded]

I'm sure I'll be able to. My 'brother' should know better than inquiring about my personal business unless it's probably worth his concern. [She had noticed how he reacted] Is everything alright between you two?

[topgun_textiles]

[The aluminum gave a little crinkle as his grip tightened on it.]

Huh!? E-everything's fine! [An answer made all-too-quickly. It was his own damn fault for letting his mind take a dive into the gutter. Minato posed what he hoped was an innocent question. Kanji's eyebrows furrowed in thought. ...No, he was teasing, he was sure of it. It wouldn't be the first time, not after that discussion in the arcade.]

[He hadn't even noticed he was squeezing the poor can so hard that he was getting (thankfully cooled from his forgetting about it) coffee on his pants.]

[pishirogane]

[After the sudden answer, the small detective just watches this spectacle of Kanji contemplating while crushing his coffee can. It appeared as though every time he thoughts got worse, he gripped down harder. Soon enough, she's watching the contents spill. Good thing she brought some spare napkins from breakfast. Minato evokes such a strong response from Kanji]

... I'll talk to him later about teasing you. For now, you might want to clean up before that sets.

D-don't worry about it! I can handle it mys--

...Sets? [A blink. What was that abou-- He looked down, just as another two drips of coffee landed on his pants. That's what he gets for wearing thick materials: You can't feel jack shit. Kanji immediately held the can away from him and searched for his coat pockets first for napkins or anything of use, hadn't even realized he was gripping it so hard until he had to nearly peel his fingers off the aluminum.]

[She's already fished out several napkins from her pocket]

[He took the offered napkins and felt like a real champ as he went to clean off what he could. First Egypt, now this... but that train of thought helped him form something of a lifeline to change the subject inconspicuously!]

So Egypt went bad. All that singin' I did wasn't completely gone. Ended up serenading a damn kishin egg, pissed it off pretty good.

[Pat pat, dry dry... Kanji leaned to get a closer look. Shit, he hoped that stain remover he has at home would take care of this.]

...Did Arisato-san talk to you about two-pair missions?

[pishirogane]

You're welcome.

[She lowers her hand and looks away as he dabs at his pants. Oh, now that he brought that subject forward, she had been meaning to ask how the mission went. She frowns]

That's unfortunate. I'm sure next time you'll both be able to defeat the Kishin Egg.

[She glances at the stain, but then give him a confused look]

No, he has not. Why?

[topgun_textiles]

That's what we're gonna do, beat the hell out of it twice as hard to make up for it!

[Though, where that kishin egg was now, who the hell knew. It flew off into the night sky without any real sign of it ever coming back down. As much as he hated leaving a thread untied, he might have to just let the bastard go.]

[He brushed off napkin bits from the pant material.]

Four heads're better than two. That zombie in New York, lettin' that sphinx get away in Egypt... we figured we'll do a lot more damage against those assholes out there as a bigger team, watch each other's backs, not come back with a chunk taken outta some part of any of us, y'know?

[...Or come back with sand in every place one can imagine. Kanji officially hated sand until further notice.]

[Tifa appeared to be the capable type. Hm... though, she had never asked what kind of weapon the older woman turned into. At his statement, she nodded firmly, her hand coming to rest on her leg where the bandage was hidden beneath her pants]

Yes. There are a number of two-pair missions on the board. It's supposed to be possible for a team to pull off a group resonance, but perhaps that's the reason why so few of those missions are taken.
