Description: Every morning in the city, Morning Training takes place to prepare the guests of the city for the war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on February 16th.

*So this is Clare scribbling notes as she watches other people train. She's not approaching anyone, just watching and studying. She also seems to be studying things she can't possibly use, like partners resonating or Meisters practicing their abilities.*

*It'd be creepy if she didn't look so harmless and pathetic.*

[Obito has no qualms approaching Clare during training. Although it's not like their resonating has done either of them much good, both having some pretty major skeletons that they'd rather not bare too early to one another, he's still interested in being her friend. So, coming up and asking what he hopes to be an easy question, that should be acceptable from a kid that wanted to be her friend... Right? Not that he's particularly savvy about journal etiquette. But he's honestly curious.]

*Clare will at somepoint get used to ninjas doing that. Or stop getting so focused on her notes she forgets people are better at being sneaky than her. She didn't jump too much, as it was only Obito.*

...Research, I can only figure out so much studying my own abilities. I'm trying to figure out more about how the Meister-Weapon dynamic works on my own, before just sucking up and asking someone.

*As every time she asked someone it brought up more questions because of either vague metaphors or just... weird answers. Also trying to figure out how to help Obito with his resonance issues, Clare was mostly certain it wasn't her. She needed to randomly resonate a few more times but she had a pretty good control over the basic shifts in her wave form. Just not on her abilities and removing the emotional aspect to them.*

...Any thoughts on how we could work on resonating?

[He notices her jump, but he doesn't comment on it or apologize for surprising her. That would just make things awkward.

Obito's eyebrows raise.] That sounds like a good plan, actually. If you come to any conclusions, maybe your notes will be helpful to the rest of us, too.

[Obito took a moment to think, pulling his goggles up to rest on his forehead and placing his hands in his pockets. His two-toned gaze glanced away towards the others training on the field.]

Hmm... [He moved to sit next to her, eyes still averted. He pulled his knees up to his chin, wrapping his arms around them.] I'm not really sure. I just... I'm really bad at this "get to know you" stuff.

Some of the less experienced partners look to be concentrating more. The Meisters. *Clare can't read expressions on weapons.*

...Have you tried manipulating your soul like whatever energy you use at home? It might be a bit more regimented an act for you, given your home seems to be pretty disciplined. *They are ninjas after all. She tried not to comment or notice his posture. It was very... un-ninja, but she didn't think he wanted her commenting.*

Oh, yeah? [Obito really can't blame them.] I still don't know my ability yet, though I've had... some hints.

You mean, like chakra? I guess I could try that. Accessing it isn't quite the same, since you don't charge it up then expend it. [It was worth a shot, through. It would be strange, trying to access something he had been neglecting for weeks now.]

...... [He sighed.] You know, I'm an Uchiha. That's a pretty prominent family where I come from. Our whole family, the ninja among us, anyway, are in change of Konoha's version of the Watch.

Well, from what I was told arriving here, abilities at home connect to the changed abilities here. My theory is whatever changes BREW makes attaches muscle memories of what you were capable of at home. Giving a path of least resistance to your new abilities. If Chakra is connected to your life force, like soul is, it isn't impossible they would work the same way.

*It wasn't a perfect theory, but it was a theory. Which was better than just sitting around doing nothing.*

*Clare listened, another tidbit about Obito's home was another sign he was opening up... except this seemed to be more on the common knowledge level.* So... does your clan have an ability like the Hyuuga do? Something useful for village defense? Gotta be a lot of weight on your shoulders starting with all that.

*She had only met one other Uchiha, and it was while she was very crazy and he returned home shortly after. But given the similarities shared by the three Hyuugas it wasn't a huge deductive leap to think that clans share a lot of common traits, most likely the Uchiha had one useful to village defense. She doubted the other clans could be as rigid and no-fun as the Hyuuga... but they were all ninjas.*

Sounds... like it's possible. [Even if it wasn't perfect, there was merit to it.]

It's kinda like the Hyuuga byakugan. We're distantly related, I think, or at least the ability is. [He's obviously not completely sure about that, but it sounds right. Some people believe that back home, at least. He shrugs.] It's different than the Hyuuga abilities, but works about the same way. Our eyes change and allow us to perceive things normal people can't. It's a bloodline ability that any ninja would envy.

It isn't really fun to deal with, but sometimes it gives you an edge. I never got to really use it but... [He closed his normal eye, turning his sharingan'd eye on her.] I guess it still looks pretty cool.

But yeah, they expected me to be something special when I was a kid. But I never was.

*Most of what he said made the sort of sense that only worked when Clare didn't puzzle over it too much. But since she wasn't an A student in Ninja biology she was expecting way too much from herself. The eye did look cool though.*

It's kinda cool, but is every ninja bloodline weird eyes? *Valid question given sample to work from.*

That's the thing about expectations, they tend to weigh you down, making accomplishments harder. You're special, but just for being yourself.

[Obito chuckles.] No, but most ninja from prominent families tend to have special jutsus they develop. The Uchiha and Hyuuga Clans are very old, though. I guess you could say our eyes are relics of ancient history. [That was a romantic way of thinking about it, anyway.]

[Obito's eyes widen a little. People didn't often say he was special unless they were praising him for his Clan's sake. He looked away, scratching behind his ears.]

... I guess every family needs a black sheep.

*Ninja biology is weird.* I see. So your family pretty much picks who you become? That seems a little bleak. *Although the choice of wording was nice, it... didn't take the edge off.*

*Clare smiles a little* You know why a black sheep is bad? You can't dye black wool. But black dye isn't permanent, so it isn't useless... just different.

*Guess all kids have pressure from their family.*

They just expect a lot from those who develop the bloodline limit. [Obito shrugged, giving Clare a half-grin.] My family wasn't pushing me too hard, though. They never even found out I had the Sharingan.

Huh. I didn't realize that was why. That's... kind of comforting. But we're not really sheep, in the long run.

So bloodline limits aren't a sure thing? *Ninja biology is less weird, but not by much.* I guess that makes sense.

We're not, but it doesn't change how it works. If your entire family are bakers, but you burn every cake but you're great at sewing clothes, or building furniture, or any other good example. *She hoped that got her message across, that it was simply being different, and that's okay.*

I don't have a ninja example, but you can probably fill in the blanks on that.

That's one way, yes. Though you're going to have to try and learn it on your own eventually.

I know... I'm not taking as many notes on the things I can already practice. Like transformation.

*Speaking of her notes, and training, and doing it on her own. Clare looks a little nervous before she starts again.* Um, Kid... you said you could control how powerful your shots were with your weapons, right?

Yes, that's correct.

Then could you do me a favor?

I was hoping you'd shoot at me. So I can figure out the limitations of what I can defend against when I'm partnerless.

[he glances at where his weapons are...idling around somewhere sob godmodding.]

I need something controlled and able to increase in power, not much use if the first attempt gets me killed. And a pitching machine doesn't have soul to it, I'd just be testing blunt impacts.

I also have a theory I wanted to test, this plan seems safer.

*Clare you are asking Death to shoot you and claiming it is safe.*

[technically, it probably is the safest since he also one of the few with such skill and experience. plus in this case, brute force really was the only way to go.]

Hm.... If you really want me to I can help. But what's the theory?

Well, In testing partial transformations, I can make either a half shield. *Clare's arms both flashed white before the backs had gleaming metal plate to them.*

Or if my arms are close enough... *She moved her arms together like she was shielding her body from something, and the metal became a full shield face, connecting over the space between her arms once they were close enough.* I get stuck like this... but it feels a bit stronger. I think this way, even if I lose some mobility for a little while, my shield face is stronger since it's more complete, like my weapon form.

*Clare struggles to pull her arms apart, it takes a few tries before they are far enough apart that the white flash of transformation returns them to the slimmer forms only the width of her arms.*

[he watches her transformations with a critical eye. it's only after she finishes and he thinks for a moment before he nods.]

All right. Let me get Liz and Patti and I'll meet you over there. [he turns to an area that was pretty clear and had ample space for them. last thing they needed were to discover she had some kind of reflect ability that would make his bullets bounce off and hit someone else instead.]

Right... *Clare nods and runs off toward the designated spot to wait.*

*Which she should have done something, anything, other than race over to be there first. Cause waiting and thinking about all the ways this could go wrong was in no way healthy. Especially when the few minutes it took for Kid to show up felt like a few hours while she considered all the ways she could get injured from this.*

*She sat on the ground waiting for Kid to return, to shoot at her a few times for science. It was a good spot, far enough out of the way there was little chance of ricochet damage. She's never deflected anything, but at the same time she's not dealt with many projectiles. Her running theory was her wavelength negated momentum, somewhat like the bumper of a car. This test would prove if that were true or not.*

I have no idea how strong you are, so pick something reasonable for your first shot at me. *Clare transformed her right arm and stood ready, trying to make it an easy target to hit. As missing her arm might be... bad.*
