[Open] Morning Training! - February 16th

Time: 5am to 10am

Description: Every morning in the city, Morning Training takes place to prepare the guests of the city for the war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on February 16th.

[He pats Roy on the shoulder and sits back, propping his arms up against the back of the bench.]

Hehehe. So wife-searching and work aside. What have you been up to?

Nothing much beyond that. I think I'm busy enough as it is.

Mm... Y'know—don't take this the wrong way, I haven't been here very long yet after all, but—are you sure leading such an organization is what suits you? I mean, trying to be Führer is one thing but...this isn't our world either. I get your intentions have to deal with wanting to protect these people, but there are different ways to do that. You don't always have to take the same type of role, especially since your motivations here are quite different from what you wanted for Amestris.

It's not to say that I don't think you're incapable—you're more than capable, if not completely overqualified. But you shouldn't take such a position just because people expect it of you. I just... I don't know. Even though I was in the military back home, I don't have much reason to be that kind of person here, I suppose. Even though I still want to protect these people just as much, it's just not... [He trails off, unsure of how to phrase what he feels.]

[Well, that was not entirely expected.

He doesn't say anything at first, content to keep his eye on what's going on, but the rest of his attention on Hughes.]

I am doing this because I want to, actually.

[It might have been different before, but well. Eight months, man.]

It's just a little difficult right now. That's all.

[Amestris was home, but so was Death City. That was how it was now, in spite of everything.]

...as long as you're sure. I don't know about the current circumstances or what it's been like for you while you were here, but...I know you're the type that also takes on responsibilities that people expect of you to do just because you feel it's your duty. And duty is...important, sure. But it detracts from your sense of self.

[He shrugs slightly.]

Maybe I'm just blind to it since I haven't been here or because you came from a time long after I had already gone or because you're from another timeline entirely... But the Roy I know... I don't think he would really be satisfied. Not with a job like this. He can do it with ease because he's good at it. He's an amazing leader and many will flock to follow him because of it. But his true feelings wouldn't really be in it. He would feel like the job is natural for him and maybe even enjoy it properly, but I don't think it's not really...him.

[Hughes glances over at Roy.]

I hope I'm not being too forward by saying this. I just... [He trails off and looks away again.

He just wanted Roy to have what he truly deserved—not just some life based on the image others had of him that he willingly accepted because of his nature.]

[Quiet for a while.]

This is what I want to do, Hughes. Death City's a place I want to protect, and this is one of the ways that I plan on doing that.

[He nods silently and takes his time processing the words carefully. After a few long moments, he finally responds.]

Okay. I trust you.

[And he really does.]

[Saying nothing to that, but there is a significant look in the other's direction - a silent thank you - before he's turning back to his men.]

[He watches the other people silently for a few minutes before he nods in their direction.]

You ever train with 'em? Or just do you just do your own thing?

[For whatever reason, the scene reminded him a bit of their military academy days.]

I train with them. Before I was handling the Watch, I used to be one of the instructors during these morning sessions.

Ah... Y'know, it'd be nice to spar with you again. It's been...what, years?

[thewarisover]

[Blinks, a little surprised by the offer.]

Are you really up for it right now?

[comradery]

[Though he was still recovering, a good stretch and some exercise would probably help considering he had been sitting around the last few days.]

Hehe. Probably not a full one, but if we pace it out, basic grabs, throws, and dodges should be fine—no strikes or rushes of course.

[Hum. Then straightening up.]

I guess it can't hurt.

[comradery]

Don't worry, if it's too much, I'll let you know.

[He sits forward and then rises to his feet.]

[Watching Hughes a moment, and then jerking his head towards one of the clearer spots.]

Don't cry on me when I'm done thoroughly beating you up.

[His old war instincts are back, and more than eight months in Death City have only made him stronger since he has not had alchemy to fall back on.]

[He grins.]

You sure you're not going to be the one crying?

[He had continued to keep up his training despite not being in active combat, after all. Desk work was boring!]

I'm very sure.

[Mildly, as he's putting some space between them.]

[comradery]

[He chuckles and stands at a good distance himself, getting in a defense stance with his arms raised and hands open. He grins playfully at Roy.]

All right then, Roy. Show me what you've got.

[thewarisover]

[A snort, as he's shifting weight from foot to foot --

-- and then he's charging right for you. He's gotten fast. He'll feint to the left, then aim for a good solid straight to the gut.]

[He sees it coming and pivots back on his foot, throwing down a hand to redirect the blow.]

Hehe. You've gotten faster, huh...

[He stays in a defensive stance and waits to see what Roy does next before attempting anything.]
