[Open] Morning Training! - February 16th

Time: 5am to 10am

Description: Every morning in the city, Morning Training takes place to prepare the guests of the city for the war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on February 16th.

[Manners, who needs them? Hades listens politely before he smiles a smile that has too much predator and not enough niceness in it.]

That is exactly why they do not appeal to us. It ruins the fun of the 'hunt'.

Sometimes searching for a particular volume can be a hunt in itself. [another face then, casually, not registering the predatory smile:] Especially when our leaders keep the ones on the most interesting subjects locked away from the public... A shame, that.

[it's bait he's not entirely sure this one'll take -- it's encouraging to see how many individuals he's talked to could be interested in "acquiring" said restricted books, but they're generally-normal people. not like this one.]

[There is a subtle shift in his expression as he disregards that objection.]

For somebody who claims to be closer to my kind than other mortals you sure do still seem to think like one. Locks and restrictions... What kind of god do you take me for?

[a raised brow.]

My people knew their place in the universe. Though that place was to be by our goddess's side, I never claimed godlike status myself.

[he shrugs one shoulder lightly.] If you'd like to do me a favour, though, you could share with me a god's advice on acquiring these books without breaking the rules set by our gracious hosts.

[He smiles.]

Why should I when not doing so promises to be ..more potentially entertaining? [He tilts his head slightly as his voice gains a small hungry note even as it remains perfectly gentle and reasonable.] My guidance is expensive.

[dissenter]

You're mistaken if you're insinuating I'll be doing anything illicit. I wouldn't be any sort of king worth mentioning if I did. [the lie's an easy one, one told many times before. his mildly offended look comes just as easily.]

I'm afraid your appetite for entertainment will just have to go unsated, and your price unpaid -- my capacity for delinquency and my pockets have both run dry.

History teaches that its books are always written by the winner.

[He shrugs his shoulders, obviously not bothered by the refusal in the least. There are many people here and each one has the potential to become entertaining at any given time. Besides, people and their choices change as time passes and, if nothing else, Hades has time.]

There are more ways to gain what you seek than just 'doing evil'.

[dissenter]

Oh, no, you mistake me. Disrespecting the rules of this world is hardly evil -- just inconsiderate. [he smooths his beard, as if it'd bristled during his earlier indignation.] I'm simply not an inconsiderate person.

...And there are those who'd say that in the end, the winners are all that matter. You won't find the story of my people's fall in any texts, in any world. [he taps the side of his head.] But I'm the only one left capable of recording the truth about either victor or loser. So what does that say about me?

[kill_some_time]

I am. [One of his ears flick as he pretends to think about that question for a whole two seconds.] That you can create the past however you want?

[dissenter]

If I wanted to. [a stress on "want." because why would he want to make stuff up about his past? come on!] Or that perhaps it's not always the winners who write history, but sometimes those who can outlive it and still have it in them to care -- and that I'm one of them.

If you are the only one who survives, then that does hardly matter anymore. Who besides you would care?

Not many, I'd wager. But sometimes all it takes is one person to care.

[a deep sigh that slumps his shoulders.] Truth, knowledge, can be a terrible burden. It's one best shared, as far as I'm concerned.

I consider it more like a double-edged blade. Wielded wisely it can bring great entertainment. [Share? How do you do that?]

[dissenter]

[he eyes hades, expression impassive.] Has it always been that way for you? Only being capable of telling truths?

It has, although I have not always been aware of it. 'Innocence'...

[dissenter]

[a strange look.]

I'm afraid I... Don't quite know what you mean by that.

[He only smiles in return, a silent ugly smile.

He had once told Apollo that it is the best to devour things when they are the sweetest and what is sweeter than innocence coupled with naivety? The look in the sun god's eyes as he had lost both of those qualities had been something to behold. Strictly speaking, Hades isn't an evil god even though he is the god of evil. But that doesn't mean that he won't drag you down if you give him the chance.]
