[Open] Morning Training! - February 16th

Description: Every morning in the city, Morning Training takes place to prepare the guests of the city for the war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on February 16th.

He tries to ignore afterimage of a wrought up feeling and just grumbles under his breath as he lets the whips soar through the air once more. It goes over his head in a wide arc and comes down far too early just to jerk into an upwards hit at the last moment as he goes along with the motion, putting his own weight and momentum into the move as well.]

{Yako uses that augmented bond to track his movements. She uses the energy at the moment she feels it will be used best. The resulting wave of energy leaves shallow slash, perhaps a couple centimeters deep, in the target.

Combined with the actual blow, the weak attack knocks over the target, sending it tumbling two or three times.}

I call that one Backlash. That one wasn't very strong, since there wasn't much energy to be had in the tree, but it takes quite a few Lashes to really affect a Kishin Egg.

[His eyes widen slightly at the damage they have done. It's - impressing! He's not going to admit it, but that's far better than what he had given her credit for so far. A whip that can get the force of a god's punch behind it is no tool to be underestimated.

... After a second he huffs and crosses his hands in front of his chest to show how 'little impressed' he is.]

So you suck the energy out of one life and use it to blast another one to bits?

That's the basic concept. Depending on the opponent, either a really strong or multiple Backlashes might be needed to do major damage. I haven't used it outside of practice, though...

{She's a bit disappointed about that, but the brief flash she felt from him before he tried to play it off is...well, satisfying.}

That's all I know right now. Like I said, it's kind of hard to find somebody who knows what to do with a whip to train with me.

[He is slightly disappointed that she isn't bothered by his choice of words, but listens to her explanation attentively.

From what he has seen from this world it seems to be a lot like the modern world he has come from; having trouble finding people who know how to use a whip here would make sense. On the other hand, swords seem to be perfectly normal here which is a huge difference to Domino City.]

How come they have no problems using swords but have no skills with whips?

Well, in worlds with less technology, blades are more common and easier to learn than whips, I guess.

{She can't quite hide how put out that makes her. She actually understands the rationale behind her weapon form, but really.

Couldn't BREW have given her something even slightly more mainstream?}

Nonsense, learning how to use a weapon has nothing to do with how much technology there is.

[He is about to say more about how swords are just easier to use since the dangerous end can be easier distinguished from the not-pointy one by even idiots, but the comment falls short when he realizes that his hands are shaking and how drained he is feeling all of a sudden. Judging from the wet feeling on his arm his wound is bleeding once again as well.]

{She breaks off when she realizes that something is wrong. When she feels him shaking, she shifts her form without brewing their resonation, leaving her wrist in his grasp. She's not sure if forcibly breaking the bond would hurt him more or not.}

[He jolts a little when she is suddenly back to being a human. He breaks the contact quickly, pulling his injured left hand back and giving her a dirty glare as he ignores the indescribable jerk of breaking their resonance like that.

It hurts, but he prefers the pain over letting her find out anything he doesn't want her to.]

That's none of your business, woman! [The snap comes quick and instinctively, born from his dislike of having to deal with the weaknesses of this mortal body and having anybody see a sign of weakness from him.]

{She gives him a dry, flat look, ignoring the urge to flinch at the snap of the bond.}

Oh really? Because this--

{She pointedly places a hand over the bloody patch and squeezes firmly.}

This seems like something that is pretty concerning.

[He yowls with pain as she presses against the already manhandled cut in his upper arm and he sees stars for a moment.

Ending the noise in a sharp hiss of pain he draws back immediately as he inwardly spits curses at both her for doing that and himself for his blunder of showing her his pain.]

You-!! [All he can do is to keep himself from hitting her as his nerves keep pulsing with a fire that he can't just dodge and safe for his host to feel like he usually does. Curse his blunder, curse his missing dark powers and curse all those other people for being her and preventing him from doing something nasty to her without blowing his cover!] Who the hell do you think you are!?!

{Yako barely even bats an eyelash. His anger is literally nothing compared to some of the things she's seen while skirting death with Neuro. She feels a flash of guilt, but it just reinforces the idea that this is for his own good.

That in mind, she smiles at him, sweet and gentle.}

I think I'm the girl that is either going to take you to the hospital to get fixed up, or cling to you and pretend to cry at a frankly obnoxious volume until other people notice and drag you there for treatment. ...Actually, no. I'm pretty sure about that. Nearly certain, really.

{Of all the threats he could have made, that one actually gets a soft, nostalgic laugh out of her. She sighs and shakes her head a little, the small spark of fear lit by his prpximity effectively overwhelmed by her far more painful memories.}

I think you severely underestimate the durability of my neck. And you're forgetting a very crucial, obvious detail.

[He glares at the idiot on the sideline but refuses to deign him with an answer.

Instead he turns his attention back to her and grins.]

You think? All I need to do is to wibble them something with my cute little British accent, promise to be a good boy and walk off t be never seen again. Do you think they'd check if I really go there?!
