I'm kidding, of course. [he laughs lightly and holds up his hand yieldingly -- see, joking!] You've always been a talented fighter and-- well. In all truth, I shouldn't be talking.

[qilby kind of wishes he didn't use up the little bit of maliciousness he'd allotted himself in this conversation; he has a feeling he's going to want it later. he circles around the dummy, placing it between him and yugo.] It's been hard without our portals, though I'm sure you already understand that if you've been here before. You have the right idea, training like this.
portalist: <user name=tsunderes site=livejournal.com> (a croissant a day keeps the doctor away)

[personal profile] portalist 2012-05-12 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh, right. He forgot that this was nice old Qilby--it was just a tease! At least, he thinks it was. So he just gives him a smile to show that it's all good.]

I had something a lot more like my portals the last time I was here. But I guess BREW's trying to get me to try new things. [Even if it does it in a frustrating way.] I have a lot of catching up to do compared to other meisters, so I might as well start now! It'd make it a lot easier to find another partner.
dissenter: (fondly regarding.)

[personal profile] dissenter 2012-05-12 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Another?" [his expression runs a gamut of reactions -- puzzlement, sudden understanding, self-deprecating amusement.] ...Of course you'd have had a partner before, I'm not sure what I was thinking.

Well. I'd say you have little to fear as far as finding a new one is concerned. You've a knack for connecting with all sorts of people and there're certainly-- [f...rown...] ...All sorts of people to choose from, here. [unsaid: please, yugo, don't partner up with someone embarrassing. you're an eliatrope.

he lays his hand on the dummy's shoulder, leaning forward ever-so-slightly, intently.]
But I understand that, as Meisters, we all possess unique abilities of our own. And I've even heard they're often similar to powers we possessed back on our own worlds... I don't suppose you've had any luck with those, have you?
portalist: (i might've added some extra ingredients)

[personal profile] portalist 2012-05-14 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

[He straightens up at that and nods.] Yup! I just discovered it today, actually. Let me see if I can do it again...

[Tapping into his powers isn't as hard as his first time--he knows how to focus and to channel his soul's energy, even if it's slightly different this time. Even so, it takes some concentration to summon the energy to his hands and to draw two small, glowing portals, not unlike the ones he made at home. He grins at Qilby.]

It's the same as my powers at home! They're a lot smaller, though. I don't think I can travel through them like I used to.
dissenter: (this episode had lots of this face.)

[personal profile] dissenter 2012-05-15 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
[wait what

no

no, that wasn't the answer he was supposed to get-- there's no way in all the krosmoz that yugo, a young brat who's barely even scratched the surface of his real eliatrope powers, could have figured this out before him. and only a few days after he arrived, whereas qilby had been struggling for weeks!

well congratulations, yugo, you stunned him speechless. luckily he's too shocked to even express the rage he'll surely feel in a few moments -- he merely stares, mouth agape, growing agitation easily mistakable for plain old astonishment. a few seconds pass before he can finally speak.]

How in the world did you-- [no, already sounding too accusatory. he's aware of the white-knuckled vice grip he now has on the dummy; he manages to relax and subtly change his tone.] That's... Incredible, Yugo! Really, very incredible!

[and with a tremendous effort, he even forces a smile. it makes him feel sick to his stomach.] Those of us on the Council always tended to be precocious but... I'm afraid the word barely begins to describe you. How did you even go about discovering it in the first place?
portalist: (i might've added some extra ingredients)

[personal profile] portalist 2012-05-15 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
[He's very proud that he's discovered his powers so quickly--it's a good sign, even if his other skills are rusty! At least this is something. Yugo smiles at Qilby and closes off the portals.]

It's not much, but it's not a bad start, right?

[He laughs.] It wasn't too hard with a little help! And it wasn't too different from the powers I had the last time I was here, so I think that helped!
dissenter: (je voudrais.)

[personal profile] dissenter 2012-05-15 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
[ahaha, it wasn't too hard with a little help-- bleargh. what a smug child. for one paranoid moment qilby's convinced the kid's doing this on purpose just to spite him, and it's only after reassuring himself that yugo's too stupid to go about subtly torturing him that finally he cools it.]

Oh, there's no need to be humble about it! I'd say it's quite a bit more than "not a bad start." And, in fact, it makes me wonder if my heretofore unknown power's the same as yours.

[as much as he'd hate to admit it, he can't help but feel a little thrill at the thought that his ability might grant him some of the freedom his portals did back in their universe. it's pathetic that he's almost grateful for possibly being thrown a proverbial bone.

all the same though, his legitimate hopefulness overshadows his resentment towards yugo which makes his enthusiasm all the more convincing...]
I have to say, it'd be a real boon if it was... But I'm afraid that as of yet there's no indication that's the case.
portalist: (so cool!)

[personal profile] portalist 2012-05-16 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
[He lights up at the idea of them having the same power. If that was the case, then maybe Qilby would be able to teach him some Eliatrope tricks! Assuming that they carried over to this world, of course.]

Well, there's lots of people willing to help! You could ask them. Or... maybe I could help you out! I've had a lot of practice before!
dissenter: (fire ze missles.)

[personal profile] dissenter 2012-05-16 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
[ah, yes, there it is: the conundrum.

suffer the indignity of yugo helping him out with something he should already be a master of? or spend who knows how long trying to figure out the powers he needs? to be honest, qilby would rather light himself on fire than let the brat think he helped him in any way, but...

he's just too curious. and so it's after a brief but intense struggle with himself that he finally beams, and replies:]
You're the expert here, it seems! What do you suggest I do?
portalist: (um okay...?)

[personal profile] portalist 2012-05-19 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yugo closes his eyes to focus. It's easier to feel out his soul's vibrations that way.] You have to focus on your soul's wavelength. It's kind of like using Wakfu. Imagine it like a pond, rippling out.
dissenter: (convening.)

[personal profile] dissenter 2012-05-20 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
[oh no, this is already painful. qilby wonders if it's not too late to go ahead and set himself on fire instead; it's starting to sound more and more enjoyable by the second.

whatever. he'll humour yugo, since he's the bigger person. or at least that's what he tells himself as he follows the younger eliatrope's lead, closing his eyes, grasping for something but feeling nothing. wakfu was life -- pure, intoxicating élan vital -- and being able to see its external flows like eddies in a stream was second nature. on the other hand, making a conscious effort to turn that gaze inwards (a place he tried not to visit too often) is like manually breathing.

the frustration is nothing new -- he'd been through this song and dance plenty before yugo showed his hat around these parts -- but it's worse with the little twerp managing it just fine right in front of him. what does he have that qilby doesn't? it's not knowledge, that's for sure. so then what?]

It's... Not as easy as you make it sound. [says he after a heavy silence. he'd briefly considered lying and saying he had it figured out, but... that wouldn't help him (sure would be gratifying, though.) letting out a long, pent-up breath, qilby takes a seat on the grass, crossing his legs and sitting up straight with his hand resting on one knee.

clearly, he means business.]
portalist: <user name=tsunderes site=livejournal.com> (a croissant a day keeps the doctor away)

[personal profile] portalist 2012-05-21 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
It was hard for me too, at first. But I practiced a lot and soon got the hang on it. [It's taken him a little time to readjust to using soul energy, but the time that he's spent here training helped ease the transition. Using meister abilities wasn't as easy as transforming into a weapon for him, but it was still something he caught on pretty quickly.]

Everyone learns at their own pace, but if you keep at it you'll be able to use your soul easily enough. Are you feeling anything?
dissenter: (but i am le tired.)

[personal profile] dissenter 2012-05-22 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Truthfully? [qilby smiles, not a little rueful.] No.

Admittedly, it's been quite some time since I've had to learn something completely new. You're more practiced than I in that regard; I must say, I envy you that a little. [there're actually quite a few things about yugo he envies... not that he'd ever admit it.

he's been accused before of lacking a soul. perhaps -- he thinks, amused -- that's the issue. and if he wasn't convinced he's destined for great things here... it's easy to suspect, feeling around blindly in the dark, that he's looking for something that might not even exist.]
portalist: (um okay...?)

[personal profile] portalist 2012-05-23 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
[He thinks he understands that smile and feels a little sorry for Qilby. It was terrible when he first arrived here, stripped of his powers--it must be harder for a king like Qilby.]

Well, I think it's harder to figure out your ability as a meister than as a weapon, so we've got that going against us. But if you had someone read your soul for its abilities, that'll probably help a lot and make learning easier!
dissenter: (silly billy.)

[personal profile] dissenter 2012-05-23 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[asking a stranger for help ranks only slightly better than asking yugo for help in qilby's list of things he'd rather burn than do. but it seems like it's something that'll need to be done... and goodness knows he's done his share of less-than-dignified things in order to get what he wants.

he forces his smile to take a turn for the hopeful (the grateful, even.) you're so good at lifting peoples' spirits, yugo!!]
Do you think so? [qilby appears to consider the thought, before brightening visibly.] Well-- it certainly couldn't hurt.

It's certainly strange, not having all the answers for once. I suppose I should count myself lucky, having you around. [so lucky. so lucky.]
portalist: (show me those pearly whites)

[personal profile] portalist 2012-05-23 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yugo beams.] It's all right--I'm sure you'll catch on quickly! And I'm glad to have you here too! It's good to have someone from home.
dissenter: (regal.)

[personal profile] dissenter 2012-05-25 04:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[he returns the look, briefly, before sighing and leaning back on his good arm.] I don't suppose I'll be making much more headway until I get that outside help, so...

I know that on your world, we had very little time to talk. [a little laugh.] Not that you're to blame -- if it were me, I too would have gone off to find my Dofus as soon as I could -- but the fact remains that I haven't had much of a chance to really get you caught up with our people.

[somberly.] We were so much more than our wars, and our mistakes. One of these days, now that we have the time, I'd like to show you that. As best I can, anyway.
portalist: (i might've added some extra ingredients)

[personal profile] portalist 2012-05-29 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[He sits up at the mention of his people. It's something that's he's been dying to know when he returned from his drawn-out quest. It's a stroke of luck that Qilby's here--it'll help keep some of the homesickness away and he has a mentor to teach him the ways of his people.]

I'm grateful for whatever you can tell me. Grougal didn't get the chance to explain much about our people and Adamai... well, he doesn't know any more than I do.
dissenter: (doh ho ho.)

[personal profile] dissenter 2012-05-30 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
There's no need for gratitude -- it's your right to know, and my duty to tell you. [he flashes a warm smile before getting to his feet, lightly brushing a few blades of grass off himself.]

I'd be surprised if Grougaloragran had remembered much at all. He was already ancient before the ten thousand years spent watching over your Dofus, after all... I, on the other hand, am quite well-preserved, thanks to you.

So I suggest that you come up with some questions for me to answer, otherwise I'll simply tell you everything I know. [a dry, self-deprecating little look.] Which is enough to tire even you out, I assure you.
portalist: (whoooa)

[personal profile] portalist 2012-06-02 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[He thinks it over, mulling over the thousands of questions he has. Finally, he settles on:]

You said that our people lived with dragons. Does that mean the other Eliatropes had Dofuses too? The ones who weren't on the Council, I mean.
dissenter: (majestueuse.)

[personal profile] dissenter 2012-06-03 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
[he shakes his head.]

We twelve were the only ones graced with the gift of immortality, and you have to understand that it's that gift which gave us the power to watch over our people since the dawn of time. If everyone had a Dofus, we'd hardly have been a Council. [more of a parliament, really.]

But there were dragons other than those we six called our siblings, and though they lived for many years, they didn't reincarnate like us. [qilby tries not to sound sorrowful, for yugo's sake; he does a mediocre job of it.] When we left our original world, it was only a matter of time until our brothers and sisters were the only Eliatrope dragons remaining.
portalist: (doubts.)

[personal profile] portalist 2012-06-04 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
[He frowned.] ... that's very sad.

Then that means the children are all that's left of our people. [And the responsibility to care and watch them has grown exponentially.] Do you think there's a way we could bring back the dragons?
dissenter: (spaaaaaaaace.)

[personal profile] dissenter 2012-06-04 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It is. [yugo pretty much summed that up right there.

there was a time when he'd promised that, one day, every eliatrope would have a dragon to call their own. like so many of his other promises, it turned out to be hollow -- but it was one he truly hoped for. circumstances just always had a way of changing.]

It's... Possible, though it's not as simple a solution as finding my Dofus and opening a portal. [le beardstroke.] Dragons are immensely powerful, as you know, and can be found on several worlds besides our home planet. The World of Twelve had dragons of their own, after all. It's possible that survivors may have made their own exoduses during the first Mechasm attack -- and that we might find them on other worlds, far removed from our conflicts.

[a smile, inexplicably ironic.] You'd have to be prepared for quite a long journey.
portalist: (let's kick their butts team!)

[personal profile] portalist 2012-06-08 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[He cheers up at that. At least there's a chance to grasp at!] That doesn't matter! If it's for the good of our people, I'll do it, no matter how tough or long it may be!
dissenter: (please call me betty.)

[personal profile] dissenter 2012-06-11 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
[his smile widens; it looks unpracticed on his face, like he's just getting the hang of the thing again. for whatever reason, those words seem to have made qilby the happiest he's looked since yugo freed him all those weeks ago.]

That's a promise, then? I'm delighted to hear it.

[a pause. eyes narrowed slightly, he observes yugo -- really observes, for the first time.] It's incredible how much you sound like you did in your past life. Some things just don't change from generation to generation, but... [a kind look.] Alibert did a wonderful job raising you in our people's stead.
