Tonight, the park is full of life. Lights show the way towards the swimming pool, where you can find large white tents set up, all connected to each other. Music, loud chatter and laugher come from them, and inside you may find Guests and Natives enjoying the night together, a rare sight after recent events happening in the City. But tonight, all of that is to be forgotten. Maybe.

Welcome to the Summer Gala.

Feel free to leave your coat by the Coat room, listening to music (some songs are even played by Guests such as Karina, Shinji, Nanami, Hamel and John), dance together (don’t forget the Partner’s dance!), enjoy good food and good drinks, and perhaps after take a stroll by the swimming pool and the park.

...And there is no way Narumi-san could afford to hire an actual housekeeper.

Yes, well... Someone has to do them, or the Agency would be a mess. [He let out a small sigh.] I trust Narumi-san with many things, but being diligent is not one of them.

I see. Were you the only other person working there then? [She'd sort of imagined there being more employees around like the Agency here.]

Yes. Well, there was my mentor, Gouto, but he was a cat. There was only so much he could do.

[And Lily's going to stare a bit now. What in tarnation?!]

Your mentor was a cat?! Do you mean some kind of shapeshifter? [Surely, it couldn't be a normal cat...]

Not quite. He was one of predecessors long ago, but once broke the code of our clan and was cursed to live in the form of a cat forever. He has acted as a teacher to new summoners since then.

You mean an ancestor of yours? But what did he do that he was cursed to become a cat? ...Did he fall under a demon's control? [That was the thing that had worried Lily about this demon summoning business...]

I don't believe so. He was the best of the best.

I never found out what exactly he did, though. It never felt right to pry. [Gouto had never brought it up, and so Raidou hadn't asked.]

[That seemed odd. If this ancestor of Raidou's had been so good at this demon summoning thing, what could have caused the curse?]

How long ago did this happen? And he's just always been stuck as a cat since? [Her nose twitches a bit at the thought since she's allergic.]

I don't know. It must have been centuries ago.

Whatever he did, I suppose it must have been serious enough for our clan to continue his punishment for so long.

[She's a bit hesitant to ask. Not only turning someone into a cat but also bestowing them with immortality, that was something that would take an immense amount of power.]

[He hesitates before answering.] It is not common, no.

The more responsibility you have, the less you can afford to fail.

I take it that was true in your case? It must have been a lot of pressure. [It would possibly explain why he usually seemed so serious.]
