Tonight, the park is full of life. Lights show the way towards the swimming pool, where you can find large white tents set up, all connected to each other. Music, loud chatter and laugher come from them, and inside you may find Guests and Natives enjoying the night together, a rare sight after recent events happening in the City. But tonight, all of that is to be forgotten. Maybe.

Welcome to the Summer Gala.

Feel free to leave your coat by the Coat room, listening to music (some songs are even played by Guests such as Karina, Shinji, Nanami, Hamel and John), dance together (don’t forget the Partner’s dance!), enjoy good food and good drinks, and perhaps after take a stroll by the swimming pool and the park.

But please, don’t forget to thank your hosts, Keroro’s and Eve’s Metokkori R and Hikan Café, and thank Cupid, Lily’s Yesterday's Magic, Hyoubu’s World’s End, Condesce’s Betty Crocker Bakery and the Watch for all their help. Musicians (any welcome) and Dancers can u tango?

Hamel had been showing off a bit playing, and it was fortunate that the others could keep up. Nanami had even talked him into something latin and other music with more rhythm mixed in with the classical he was more accustomed to. He was difficult to work with on a purely personal level but he was really good at the violin so other than arguments over pieces to play and getting his ass to practice they'd somehow managed to pull together enough songs to make a set.

Hamel, was dressed in his usual clothes. The cape made it look a little formal but he didn't make any excuses, it's what he wears and even when he was in the Queen's court he wore the same stuff and they could all go hang if they had a problem with it. Nanami just sighed and he'd looked smug for at least half of the first song. The cellist had been mostly agreeable at least, kinda quiet. So far Hamel liked him. Which might be because he hadn't given him any guff about his opinions. Nanami had done enough of that for both of them.

And it seemed like people were enjoying it at least. They were dancing. Hamel would have preferred them fawning over him but he was starting to get used to no one recognizing his genius here. But this gave him a chance to see if the dresses really were revealing. Nanami had promised revealing. Which was a hoot, the most he got from her was a little leg. Not that she was that impressive in the bustline to begin with. But if he wasn't getting paid he wanted to see a lot more cleavage dammit.

The set was going relatively well. She was sure a few people were giggling when Hamel first hefted the thing up onto his shoulder but they shut up after he started playing. The trio was stationed up on a raised platform, Hamel on the giant violin, Shinji on cello and herself on the double bass. Every now and then another instrumentalist would join them for certain songs especially the more modern songs which were in need of drums and some synthesizer.

Nanami was in a short, gun-steel colored strapless and silver strappy heels. It was quite a contrast, such a petite girl leaning over the largest of the stringed instruments. Coincidentally, Hamel's violin was roughly the same size.

Honestly, the biggest worry Shinji had about playing for the Gala was the fact that he'd never even met Hamel prior to being volunteered to help, let alone played with him, and there was always something nerve wracking about performing with a stranger for the first time. So, once he had actually gotten a chance to practice with him, it was a huge relief, and from a technical standpoint, the string trio sounded fantastic together.

His attire for the ball was incredibly simple, especially compared to that of the other performers, consisting of a salmon dress shirt, paired with simple black slacks and a matching tie. Underwhelming, certainly, but status quo and all that.

It likely didn't hurt that Shinji was accustomed to dealing with strong personalities like Asuka and Nanami so really other than a lot more swearing Hamel was kind of what the kids was used to. Or at least Shinji seemed to act like it. And he didn't suck. So there was that going for him. Hamel paused between songs and set his violin down between his legs like Shinji's cello and glanced at the other two before focusing on Shinji. "You seen any skimpy dresses? She promised I'd get some service." Really for how normally he asked it, you'd think he'd asked about the weather outside instead of if there was anyone to perv at. Hamel had no shame. It was definitely a gift. Coincidentally he also didn't know Shinji's name despite Nanami having used it several times.

"Hey princess? Call that drummer over again. I want to play one of your songs." OK, so he maybe enjoyed the driving beats a little. He'd never admit they might be as good as classical but it was telling he wasn't bitching about having to play them.

((I'm tracking the thread if you want to reply straight to Nanami :) and let me know if I assume to much about him. It's ok if we just talk a bit then go back to playing and call the thread finished if you guys want or if either of you wants to continue with him that's cool too.))

Nanami was in a relatively good mood since the set was going well so she was able to ignore the conversation Hamel was trying to have with Shinji between song even maintaining her cordial smile. Being called princess was also helpful. Nanami waved the drummer back onto the platform along with the guy who worked the synthesizer for their next upbeat song.

Ah. Right. The thing that did make Hamel rather difficult to work with was when he made comments like that one. At the question, Shinji simply glances away, frowning a little but unable to stop the small, embarrassed blush that rose to his cheeks. Was he really expected to answer that...?

"I... haven't really been looking." And it's true! He's mostly just been focusing on performing - if he were to start concentrating too much on all the other guests attending, it would likely get him to a point where he was too anxious about being involved in such a social event to play properly.

Ah, but speaking of playing...! Once the two stand-ins were up on stage, he raised his bow back up to the cello, poised for the cue to resume playing.
