OPEN TO EVERYONE: Summer Gala

Tonight, the park is full of life. Lights show the way towards the swimming pool, where you can find large white tents set up, all connected to each other. Music, loud chatter and laugher come from them, and inside you may find Guests and Natives enjoying the night together, a rare sight after recent events happening in the City. But tonight, all of that is to be forgotten. Maybe.

Welcome to the Summer Gala.

Feel free to leave your coat by the Coat room, listening to music (some songs are even played by Guests such as Karina, Shinji, Nanami, Hamel and John), dance together (don’t forget the Partner’s dance!), enjoy good food and good drinks, and perhaps after take a stroll by the swimming pool and the park.

But please, don’t forget to thank your hosts, Keroro’s and Eve’s Metokkori R and Hikan Café, and thank Cupid, Lily’s Yesterday's Magic, Hyoubu’s World’s End, Condesce’s Betty Crocker Bakery and the Watch for all their help. [Karina definitely knows what she is doing. And while she spends some of the night at her piano, playing a few standards, she eventually leaves it to two session players for the piano and an accordion to do a special number for her finale.]

For all you lovers on the floor tonight...

[She stands before the microphone now, radiant in a vintage-styled gown from Yesterday's Magic, and her hair pinned up in a chignon very reminiscent of her look as Blue Rose back home. Her friends from home can feel free to notice that. But tonight, she's not that. She's Karina Lyle: a chanteuse, upon a stage where she feels the most comfortable at. To her, this is where she belongs.

And it shows as she lends her voice to a very warm and smooth rendition of "So This is Love".

When the song ends, she takes her bow, and moves down from the stage and back to the ballroom.]

[ Well, well, there's one person who's definitely impressed by Karina's signing, that's for sure. ]

You did great, Karina! I'm a little bit envious. I'd just sound like an idiot if I tried to sing like that.

[ She's wearing the old fashioned green dress that she picked out during that trip with Karina and Kaede. Maybe it was a bit more old fashioned than she was originally going for, but she ended up liking the dress way too much to care. ]

[Karina also used to find that green dress a little too old fashioned, but when she saw it on Chika, she thought she gave it a cute kind of charm.]

Thank you, Chika. [She laughs a bit.] Have you ever tried singing, anyway?

Yeah. A couple of times. Mostly karaoke and stuff though.

[ She pauses for a moment, before giggling herself. ]

I kinda wasn't really all that good.

Well, maybe we should go out for karaoke ourselves one time! I'm not convinced of what you're telling me.

[ Chika shrugged. ]

Okay. It's your eardrums you're putting at risk.

[ She actually looks serious for a few moments, before she bursts into giggles. ]

But yeah, it does sound like fun. Just as long as you don't try to get me to entire any city wide singing contests or something.

That's no problem. I won't do that unless I think you're really good.

[ Chika giggles. ]

Okay. Good. Just wanted to be sure we were clear on that part.

[ Not that she really thought Karina would, but hey, if they were planning for some fun, she could at least joke around, right? ]

[Karina laughs as well.]

So, enjoying the gala?

Yeah. I have to say, this is just the break I needed.

[ She grins a bit. ]

But hopefully I'll be able to take them a bit more from now on. Since some of the students at Shibusen are helping out with the arcade now.

That's great! As for me... I don't really want to take a break. I'm way too used to having a busy lifestyle back home. So, while I'm here, I want to do my best to build my career as a singer.

[ Chika nodded, but she frowned a little bit. ]

So... you're not interested in having just a little time to yourself to do things besides sleeping? I mean, I know that I've been pretty much completely overworked these last couple of weeks or so.

You should probably at least take some time to rest now and then, at least.

[She shakes her head.]

Not at all. Having fewer responsibilities here actually feels like a vacation to me.

*Alucard claps politely at the end.* You sing quite well, my lady.

"Thank you so much, sir."

Karina bowed a little at him.

"I hope you enjoyed my set. I might be singing more tonight."

"I should hope so. Are you a great singer where you are from?" At the very least, she had to have something in the bit of training.

"Well... I was a popular singer back home," Karina beams at the man. "But I did a different kind of music there."

"Oh? So you perform different types of musical aptitude?" How very intriguing. "I do hope you grace us with more, my lady. Oh, pardon me, I should introduce myself. My name is Alucard." He has a trace of a European accent that might be hard to place.

"You can say that," Karina laughs, trying to act demure before this very refined, old-fashioned gentleman. It's a little difficult for her, considering the kind of society she grew up with.

"My name's Karina. It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Alucard. I'll be having a second set later."

"I shall look forward to it." He inclines his head toward her. "But before that, are you in need of any refreshment in order to maintain your voice?"

"Ah... yes. I'd really appreciate that," Karina smiled at him. That was definitely one thing she'd never get back home while she was singing at bars... or even singing as Blue Rose. She always got her own refreshment. She was never offered it.

"Very well then. I shall return." Clearly if one is singing, one would most want to have water instead of anything alcoholic. It makes the most sense to Alucard so that's what he goes to get!

And indeed, it's exactly what Karina prefers. She didn't drink anything alcoholic, after all. "Thank you very much, sir."

"It is not a problem, Lady Karina. By all means, go back to your set. I'm certain there are other aside from me who look forward to hear what else you shall sing."

The woman didn't need him hovering around if she was trying to take a break, after all.

"No, no... not just yet," Karina laughs a little. "If I went back up there right away, I might run my voice hoarse. I've still got an hour to burn."
