Tonight, the park is full of life. Lights show the way towards the swimming pool, where you can find large white tents set up, all connected to each other. Music, loud chatter and laugher come from them, and inside you may find Guests and Natives enjoying the night together, a rare sight after recent events happening in the City. But tonight, all of that is to be forgotten. Maybe.

Welcome to the Summer Gala.

Feel free to leave your coat by the Coat room, listening to music (some songs are even played by Guests such as Karina, Shinji, Nanami, Hamel and John), dance together (don’t forget the Partner’s dance!), enjoy good food and good drinks, and perhaps after take a stroll by the swimming pool and the park.

But please, don’t forget to thank your hosts, Keroro’s and Eve’s Metokkori R and Hikan Café, and thank Cupid, Lily’s Yesterday's Magic, Hyoubu’s World’s End, Condesce’s Betty Crocker Bakery and the Watch for all their help. [On the edge of Nanami's might, Bakura and Ryou's 'relation' since this seemed basically the same to her sans the skin color difference, however her train of thought derails when she processes the first part of his response.]

P..partners? Like permanent?

[Uh-oh, she doesn't seem thrilled to hear that, and Yuugi scratches his cheek awkwardly, feeling as though he made a misstep here.]

Er, just for a couple days now. Yeah.

Oh. So r..recently. So very... recently.

[So while she was agonizing over what happened on the rescue mission the Pharaoh had been off all la-de-da making partners with someone? Did someone just knife her he the heart? Because that's what it sure feels like. All her partners are dropping her like a hot potato. She feels like a leaf on a river ready to just float away. And she looks a little unsteady as well.]

[... Crap. He's really certain he's put his foot in it now, and makes another mental note: let Atem tell his own friends about their partnership from now on.]

Yeah, um... [He would try to explain, somehow retroactively soften the blow if possible, but he notices Nanami doesn't look too well.]

Are you all right?

[She just kind of moans a little bit in reply and begins stumbling over to where there's some chairs]

Yeah, I just... need to sit down for a minute.

[Ajkfsda; He runs over to those chairs and pulls one out for her without a word like a good manservant. Is this reaction really all his fault?]

Uh, do you want something to drink?

[Yes Yuugi, it is mostly your fault but it seems like all of it is right now because the other person happens to look just like you.

She slides into the chair and lightly rubs the bridge of her nose trying to think clearly]

Yes, some water or punch or anything with ice please.

[And with that, he is off to fetch her drink, bewildered but feeling like it's on him to do something. This is a really unusual first meeting...

He returns a minute later with a glass of iced punch (the non-alcoholic version being served, mind) and offers it to her.]

Here you go.

[And hopefully that will help her calm down.]

[She takes the cup with both hands carefully and takes a quick sip]

Thank you.

[She has calmed down... well more like she has only sort of come to terms with the whole partnership thing. Okay no, she's still not happy about it but she's masking it a little better now.]

You're a weapon then?

[Yuugi just sort of... stands by, clearly still a little concerned.]

Yeah...

[And scratching his cheek yet again.]

I guess you're a weapon too.

[Gee, Yuugi, you think so?]

I am.

[She adjusts in the seat leaning back and crossing a leg while sighing]

A scimitar.

[What type of weapon had she been passed over for she wondered.]

I see...

[Wow, this is uncomfortable. Yuugi doesn't know what he should say--really should've kept his mouth shut to begin with, probably.]

[Ajsdka;f Why is he apologizing.]

No... no.

[She rubs her face and sighs again, this time a more composed look graces her face]

It's fine, it's expected really.

[It's not like she wanted a permanent partner but she was going to be pretty direct about this]

You'd still be okay if he were to go on a mission or two with other people though, right?

Er-- [Yuugi hasn't actually thought about that yet.]

That's up to him.

[That's not exactly what she asked and he knows it, but the actual answer to her question he adds almost like an afterthought, trying to shift the emphasis away from his feelings.]

I don't mind.

Fair enough. Well congratulations are in order I suppose so... congratulations.

Thanks... [It doesn't seem like that's easy for her to say, so he appreciates it but still feels a little bad. He tries to shift the conversation somewhat.]

So, have you been on missions with him before?

[Ironically, Yuugi himself hasn't gone on a planned mission with him yet.]

Actually just the one. [And it was short lived due to a trap door that just so happened to swap her with Yuugi... of all people. But for a first time resonance it was pretty good.]

[Oh right, that mission.]

I see...

[Yep, and now he's just repeating himself uselessly, but he can't think of anything to say that doesn't feel--to him--as though it might come off as insulting or smug. "Thanks for taking care of him"? Yeah, no.]

[Nanami realizes the smart thing to do here is put them both out of their misery. She stands and puts her mask back on so to speak, standing tall, smoothing her dress and hair before taking one last sip of her water before she sets the glass on a nearby surface.]

I apologize for being quite curt but I believe I'm needed for the next set.

[Yuugi hurriedly straightens up as well, somewhat relieved at the break but, of course, feeling guilty that he feels relieved.]

[Nanami passes by him without a word but she turns and gives him a smile on the way by before heading back to the stage area. She simply needs to leave him with a better impression if she doesn't want him saying anything unnecessary to his new partner.]
