But yes. While I do not see myself as anything but a gargoyle [humans are the ones who define themselves with degrees and adjectives. Gargoyles see themselves primarily as gargoyle; there is no such thing as "Scientist Gargoyle", in a Gargoyle's mind] I did have powers.
[and why not let Qilby know a little more?] I was immortal. I did not age. I'm 1058 years old.
no subject
My, you certainly don't look your age. I'm sure you hear that often... [there's a dry edge to the remark -- he'll eat his hat if he has to hear someone make that joke towards him one more time.]
Are all gargoyles the same as you -- immortal?
no subject
I don't age. I don't die.
[a disgusted look now] Didn't.
no subject
he shifts forward, leaning his elbow on his knee and scrutinizing demona. the tone of the conversation's shifted towards the somber.] It's not a blessing, watching your people grow, age, and die around you. [it's not a question, the way he says it. ]
How did you become that way? If you'd pardon my asking.
no subject
A gift from three twin sisters. [it wasn't that they were kind. The Weird Sisters were just using Demona, but her memories were tampered with so she does not remember it] Children of Oberon. Witches.
no subject
a moment passes as qilby stares off into space, contemplatively. then, remembering himself, he jumps a little and moves to make room on the bench, offering a space to demona should she want it. being an old hand at telling long stories himself, he can sense when one's coming on. she might be grateful for the seat...]
You sound like you've had more than your share of hardship, even for a life as long as yours has been. Immortality is... A burden. Certainly not one that should be carried alone. I'm lucky to have had my siblings to share it with. [almost lucky. he may as well have carried it alone, being the only one out of all of them to remember his past lives. spiteful, hateful thoughts.
qilby offers a wry smile.] I recall you quite vehemently denying a friendship between us last time we spoke, but should that change sometime, I'm quite capable of helping share your burden.
no subject
Unless you were brought by BREW to Death City.
And she did not see her immortality as a burden. It was a necessity; for how could she rid the world of the worthless humans if she was dead?]
Capable? And how are you capable of doing that?
no subject
[which is why he's been telling everyone who's crazy enough to listen all about how he's the benevolent king of a great race that died out and blah blah blah. hey, no one said his story had to be true.]
Unless I'm not the only one you've shared this with. [a little laugh.] ...In which case, I'm afraid I have little to offer you. But I doubt you'll find many others of our age.
no subject
[ and after, she leans closer to him, resting her hand at his shoulder. Though Demona wasn't keen on contact, sometimes, it helped for the other party to understand.
She whispers softly] Perhaps I'm not so kind as yourself, though. [she pulls aways after]
I thank you for your interest. But some things are better remain untouched.
no subject
he straightens; several joints pop in thanks. there's a substantial pause, as he decides exactly how he wants to approach this, and when he speaks again his tone is cool and unaffected. businesslike.] What is your goal here, exactly? On this... Foreign world.
[there's the slightest hint of distaste in the way he says foreign. but surely that can't be the case... after all, he's the kind one here.]
no subject
Now Qilby, she never openly said anything for he always remained the kind hearted one. ]
Simple. Gargoyles protect. [ and this isn't a lie. Demona wants to protect. Herself, her kind. And for this she needs to kill all humans. Of course Qilby doesn't know what it implies, but that is fine ]
edited for grammar, typos, at 4am sob
qilby needs allies, but he hates taking chances... even as that's exactly what he's doing right now. his tone is civil, but holds none of the natural warmth demona may have grown accustomed to. indeed, it might start to feel seem a bit less natural by the second.] And Eliatropes were content to squander their potential, whereas I was not. That means nothing.
[quietly, now. they're not exactly in the most secluded of areas to talk.] Pardon me for suggesting that you may not be offering the whole truth here. [he meets her eye, pointedly, for just a second.] And for reminding you that you're not the only one capable of doing so.
there there /pet
She comes closer to him, her wings rise and that would probably be enough to hide Demona next expression as well as her lips from anyone who was around them and could be looking at them. She speaks slowly, softly, almost in a whisper, but with a dangerous if not threatening tone. To match, her eyes glow red ]
Humanity is a poison that must be purged from this planet. I will kill every single one of them. I will end their race. They shall fall to my claws, my teeth and wings. [ and she comes near him, eyes set on Qilby’s ] And if you are not my ally, then you are my enemy.
[now, that last part. It is a threat]
no subject
That's all? [aaaand he laughs, though it's quickly stifled with a hand to his mouth. it's not the nicest sound.] And here I was, believing you had some dark, terrible motive you were hiding from me. No need to be shy, now!
[his shoulders shake with more muffled laughter, but the moment passes and he's considerably cheerier. more like the way he's acted before -- "normal," for him -- but his smiles and pleasant tone have probably taken on a markedly different connotation.] Well. We're certainly not enemies. In fact, our goals may share some of the same path.
no subject
She tilted her head, not exactly expecting such an open welcome to her desire of genocide. ]
Come with me. [they were not going to talk about this so openly for everyone to see.]
no subject
when he's sure there's no one around, he calls out amicably:] So how many people have you had to kill for telling them that?
no subject
How is that a sweet old man like yourself seems so comfortable with this, I wonder. [ Demona trusts no one, Qilby is no exception. And she no longer has to fake "kindness" does she? ]
What is your interest in this world?
no subject
You think I'm sweet? How nice. [he shrugs one shoulder.] And I don't have any interest in this world -- that's the thing of it.
I want to go home. There, I have the cosmos to explore, away from petty... Aah, human conflicts. [might as well throw that in to sweeten himself.] So self-centered, them and their BREW -- they're so convinced that their war is at the center of their own little universe, that they see fit to bring people from others to fight it for them.
[he waves his notes a short distance from her face.] I believe I can find a way to get back home without having to participate in their battles... And, lucky for you, it may involve taking some lives. [le smile.] Quite a few, if you'd li-- ah... Well, I'm sure you'd like it.
no subject
Humans are always like that. Everything must be done their way. This time, however, they will regret it greatly for ever bringing me here. Not that they will live long enough to feel the full regret of it.
[ Demona takes a deep breath, perhaps just smelling the hair to make sure they were really alone ]
I assume you need an ally for your little plan. Else you would have not told me a thing, I'm sure.
no subject
--but yes, I do need an ally. Actually, you've already helped me once before-- whether you knew it or not. [a vague gesture.] A few weeks ago, when the city was invaded? If it weren't for your assistance, I'm not sure I'd have been able to deliver the first of my human souls home safely.
[he folds his arm behind his back; it's out of habit, when he speaks, but the pose looks slightly less scholarly with only the one arm.] Studying it has granted me at least a little insight into the energy they can provide. Say, the sort of energy I might need to augment my latent portal abilities.
no subject
You are not eating them, else you'd be sick. What are you doing with them exactly? [ and where. Demona had her little lab on the church where she currently lived, but it was nothing amazing because it's difficult to gather scientific equipment without calling attention upon yourself ]
no subject
Researching them, as I said. Though I'm limited in what information I can glean from them without the proper resources, it's not as if I don't have tens of thousands of years experience studying these types of energies. [with one hand, he deftly flicks to a page in his notes.] A soul's wavelength shouldn't be different from any other type of wave. Just like harnessing the sun's energy or, in our case, the energy of many smaller, weaker suns.
And just as there are machines to convert the sun's energy into a usable form, so could we build one that convert the energy another person's soul generates into something we can use. [he laughs.] Or, well, so could I.
no subject
You could. With just one arm? [ she might have sounded quite amused just now. But she kept a smile now, no smirk or even look. Demona's tail moves softly as he listens to him ] All this to go back home?
How many human souls do you plan on gathering? [ regular human souls were actually weak comparatively with Kishin egg souls, she knew that. That meant killing a lot of humans. And not be caught. ]
no subject
Yes. All this to go back home. I don't appreciate being interrupted in the middle of a plan to take revenge on the people who made me this way. [one-armed, for one. half-crazy, for two. but he's nothing but smiles when he adds:] And if you'd help me, afterwards I'd be more than glad to take a trip to your world, and help out with your little human problem.
[how considerate of him! it's not like demona needs to know that there won't be much of a human-free earth left to enjoy once he's done with it.]
I don't yet know how many souls I'll need, and they needn't all be human. [he snaps his book shut.] I'll need a bit of time to run the numbers. But surely as far as you're concerned, the more's the better?
no subject
So you need me to run your errands for you and compile souls for your future machine and studies.
