Description: Every morning in the city, Morning Training takes place to prepare the guests of the city for the war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on February 25th.

Always. [ killing humans was, after all, what Demona was best at. That is, if it wasn't for a certain male gargoyle who was always getting in her way, but here, on this Earth, there was no Goliath to stop her, was there? ]

So you need me to run your errands for you and compile souls for your future machine and studies.

[dissenter]

[he'd clutch at his imaginary pearls, if he had a free hand. he settles for taking on an affectation of shock and hurt.]

Come now, that makes you sound like a subordinate. [he shakes his head.] This, dear Demona, would be a partnership. If there's anything else you'd need for your own goals that I'd be able to provide, I would be entirely at your service.

[heh.]

Oh, will you? [ Demona didn't laugh, though she did feel like it. Did he take her for a fool? An errand dog? And the amusement left her expression soon enough. She was used to partnerships; they always ended up badly. ]

Then let's see if you can be useful to me, shall we? Have you ever heard of cloning?

[dissenter]

[an arched brow. interesting choice.] I... Have. Though it's not something I've yet accomplished.

[there were several reasons he made a point of preserving one of each species from the planets he had to destroy, after all. it was always just one of many side-projects he had at any given time, but the thought that he might be able to create life one day was an attractive one.] Wiping out one species, and looking to propagate another, are you?

Let's not go that far, yet. Cloning myself would simply originate others equal to me, with light differences if I see fit; but in the end, there would be no genetic variability and thus I wouldn't be recreating my species. [ not to mention the issues consanguinity could bring if they procreated. Too much of a hassle for her to do that now. Later on, when all humans were nearly gone she'd worry. ]

Let's go to a much simple point. You are looking for souls. Clones, they too have them. [ and even if they didn't, it'd be quite the interesting experiment ]

[dissenter]

[qilby makes a faint sound -- he understands the difference, somewhat. it seems he's explored vast oceans of knowledge and somehow missed the gene pool along the way.

he's pensive now, not trying to be sly or duplicitous, or anything of the sort. though he was eventually branded a traitor, he was always an intellectual first, and this is conversation he lives for.] Perhaps they do. I couldn't say... It raises quite a few questions about the nature of a soul. In my universe, such an energy can't be duplicated -- when I die and am reborn, it's with the same soul I've had since the beginning of time.

[he eyes demona, serious.] You have a better idea of it than I do. But I'm willing to explore the possibility further.

[ Demona too enjoys science. Though she doesn't have many to speak with about it. She nods when Qilby explained how it worked in his world ] I believe same happened with some Oberon Children from my world. But you see, in my world when a female human or gargoyle mothers a child, they are creating a new soul, not "recycling" an old one, so to speak. The clones I created before had their own minds, as well. [ they were quite simple, but that's because she made sure they'd have limited intelligence. You don't want your subordinates to turn against you though they did in the end, it's hard being a villain in the show "Gargoyles" okay? ] If you create a clone, what will give it a mind but the soul? You are creating a being, either its original is dead or not.

But if for some weird and strange event they do not have a soul, then you will have an empty body that you can shove a soul into. [ and considering Demona's plan, she would need to do that anyway, since she wants to build her own cyborg warriors and fill them with Kishin egg souls. They would be her personal guard. ]

[dissenter]

[he can't help but laugh at the last bit. her cavalier attitude about the whole thing is refreshing, to say the least.]

It doesn't sound as if you intend on doing much mothering for them, in that event. [he waves his hand, as if in defeat.] You've convinced me... To a point, at least. I suppose our success is up to the laws of this universe, as the ones of ours clearly differ from each other.

So you say you've accomplished this before -- what did it require?

Of course not. All clones are meant to die in order to gather their souls. [ and she felt no pity for that ]

[ But he was right, it'd all depend on what this universe allowed her to do ]

A lot, unfortunately. Machinery, science, technology. I can build some of it, but it will be partially improvised due to this world's ignorance towards technology. I believe I can manage it, however, I will need time. [ and Demona, who had a lot of it before, didn't have it anymore. ] Also space, a safe place to build the laboratory and machines, and means to do so.

A man named Miriam Cross came to mind in order to surpass that, though. He has Shibusen's and the Watch's support regarding his new science group... And there is also a man, called Stein, part of Shibusen.

[dissenter]

Cross? [he taps the edge of his book on his chin, thoughtfully.] A possibility, though I haven't heard from him since we last spoke about his little club.

Nor have I spoke with Stein. It's woefully easy to dupe Shibusen's leadership-- [he's thinking of the conversations he's had with Kid, here...] --but it's best not to bother a sleeping dragon. Not until we have the means to slay it when it wakes, anyway.

Of course. [ but Demona really would need top notch technology. She'd probably lie regarding what it really was for, seeing she doubted they even knew what a cloning machine was. Still, Qilby is right and even if she is in a hurry to kill every human, she needs to lay low for now. ]

Is there anyone else you've told this?

[dissenter]

[he briefly considers lying and saying yes -- right now she's stronger than he, and has demonstrated several times already that she can take advantage of that fact. saying he has other allies might dissuade her from doing anything... hasty.

but after a moment, he shakes his head.] I rather jealously guard my own secrets-- and those of others, as well. You're the first.

[a smile.] Have you had to kill anyone for sharing yours? Or were you just threatening me?

[pmsgargoyle]

[ a pity he doesn't. However, Demona does. ]

[ at his question, she smiles ] I never make threats I am not willing to fulfill, Qilby. Yes, I have. More than once.

I have killed many times.

[dissenter]

Mm. Well, then. [le shrug.] I won't give you a reason to have to follow through on that particular threat.

[his tone is not quite scathing, per se, but it's not the kindest he's ever pretended to sound.] But I will suggest that you keep your trail of bodies to a minimum as long as we're stuck in the primary stages of planning here. There'll be plenty of time for that -- and plenty of warm bodies -- once we've established power.

[pmsgargoyle]

Don't speak to me as if I'm a hatchling. I've been doing this for far too long. [ a millennium ] And you have not seen dead body from me yet, have you? [ Demona has been quite calm considering everything. She wasn't nice but she didn't do anything that would lead anyone to suspect her. ]

[dissenter]

[a laugh, high and cold.] No, I suppose not. But I can just barely count the number of times, on what fingers I have left, that it's felt like you've wanted to make a dead body of me. I hope I'm the only one that seems to incite such urges.

Anyway, we're partners now. Things should be friendly between us.

[pmsgargoyle]

I'm living in a city with humans whom I want dead, pretending to be friendly enough with them. [ and all that hatred she had inside of her was a hard thing to keep ] Obviously you do not expect me to be in the best of moods.

[ but still, things had gone well enough. Demona moves her hand offering it to Qilby. A handshake. ] And I'm sure from now on, they will be.

[dissenter]

Fair enough, I suppose.

[qilby glances from demona's face to her proffered hand, before finally tucking his notes under his arm and awkwardly accepting the handshake.

for once, he doesn't say anything more.]

[and she smiles after] I live in the church, if you need to find me. [she sleeps during the day, but she isn't about to tell him when she is more vulnerable]

[dissenter]

I'd no idea you were so pious. [he smiles. that's a joke.]

--I'll keep that in mind. In the meantime, I'll see what I can do about what you need for your half of the project... [all of a sudden, he's starting to sound like the nice, venerable old eliatrope demona probably thought he was less than fifteen minutes ago. reapplying his mask, if you will.] But for now, I have some appointments to keep.

Until then. [a short wave, as he turns to leave.]

[Demona watches Qilby moved away before her smile went to a huge smirk. Maybe she can rush her plans faster than she thought at first.
