Description: Every morning in the city, Morning Training takes place to prepare the guests of the city for the war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on February 25th.

I'm from way in the south. [A pause as he realizes he should probably clarify.] Of Japan. Most recently, I was at a boarding school on an island off the coast of Kyuushuu.

There weren't any murders or anything, but I guess for such a small island it had it's own share of troubles. [He shrugs. Most places seemed to have their own particular type of problems.]

[itaidakimasu]

Oh, wow, that is south!

{Her mouth quirks into something almost ruefully fond.}

That's human nature, I guess.

[tauborn]

[He frowns a little, and then does his best to hide a bit of discomfort. Human nature. Good and bad.]

I kinda felt like I was on a desert island at first! [He laughs lightly.]

[itaidakimasu]

You want a strange situation? One time I took a case in this super-rural village and they gave me a bunch of food as tribute, like I was a youkai or something...

{Granted, her appetite was somewhat legendary...}

[tauborn]

[He gives her a teasing smile.] Something for the Hyakki Yako?

[He shakes his head and laughs.] I guess every place has its own legend, huh.

[itaidakimasu]

You laugh, but it certainly seemed like they thought that.

{She ruffles a hand through her hair with a huff that doesn't quite mask her own amusement.}

[tauborn]

But you ate it anyway, right?

[This is the best story he's heard for quite some time, actually.]

[itaidakimasu]

Don't be silly!

{She actually looks a little affronted by the idea.}

Of course I did.

[tauborn]

[He can't hold it in. He laughs. And it's a good laugh, because he hasn't really laughed like this in a very long time, and by the time he finishes he has tears leaking from his eyes.]

If you really are a demon, then I'd better watch out, though.

[He's definitely teasing, because his partner and one of his best friends are both demons.]

[itaidakimasu]

That's racist, Tsunashi-san!

{Her eyes may be twinkling, amd her scowl may be playful, but there's a tinge of seriousness on her tone. Her partner back home, the one she owes almost everything to, is a demon after all.}

Besides, who even says you're tasty enough for me, if I am that type of demon?

[tauborn]

[He grins at her accusation, and then chokes a little and flushes at her next words.]

Wh-wh-what?! I eat plenty of delicious things, and they say you are what you eat, so I'm sure I'm plenty tasty! [Wait, was that what he was supposed to say?!]

I mean, no! I'm probably too stringy and tough for your tastes so you should stick with what the villagers offer!!! [He grimaces and throws up his hands between them playfully as if he needs to fend her off.]

[itaidakimasu]

{Now it's Yako's turn to lose it. It starts out small, a tremble in her shoulders. She inhales, possibly to retort in the same vein, but as soon as her eyes catch his the laughter bubbles up, hard enough to make her lose her balance and tumble back against the grass. She sounds her age for once, merely seventeen instead of old past her time.

She wraps an arm around her stomach as the laughter tapers off, panting a little, and bats her eyes up at him innocntly.}

B-But...But Tsunashi-san, it's been ages since the village! Maybe I can't be so picky anymore.

[tauborn]

Well, I g-guess you'll just have to settle for Kishin egg souls?

[He makes a face at that, because as a meister he's never had to eat one, and he can't imagine they taste good or feel at all right while going down. And also, this girl... is batting her lashes at him and all that, which is forcing him to blush and look away.]

[itaidakimasu]

{She makes a face right back at him, because eating souls is something she has barely come to terms with and she very possibly might have burst into tears the first time she did it.}

Those don't compare at all. Seriously.

[tauborn]

[Well, he actually threw up the first time he met a Kishin egg, so they are probably even. He winces.]

Well, Saya-kun makes a pretty good breakfast, so there's always that. In fact, come to think of it, it's kind of like an offering.... [He follows his words with a small poke to her ribs.]

[itaidakimasu]

Oh, yeah!

{She grins up at him even as she twitches away from that finger reflexively.}

As Second Breakfasts go, Tagaki-san is fantastic!

[tauborn]

[He pulls his hand back to open up the bottle of water again and nods, failing to stifle a yawn.]

Though it's more like dinner to me with my Watch shift.

[itaidakimasu]

You're working Graveyard?

{She winces in sympathy.}

That can't be too fun.

[tauborn]

[He shrugs.]

It's kind of interesting? Well, really it's the shift my partner had before I joined, so I knew what I was getting into. But it's still strange to sleep in the middle of the day. It's like I'm nocturnal.

[itaidakimasu]

Well, you pretty much are. Or...what's the word...crepuscular? Since I'm assuming you eat most roughly around dawn and dusk.

Either way, considering the Sun here, you must have some heavy-duty curtains.

[tauborn]

I usually wake up at about seven or eight, and I don't know what crep...crepsclar? means.... [He gives her a sheepish shrug.]

And well, my partner's room doesn't have any windows, so sometimes I just sleep in there.

[itaidakimasu]

Ohhh. Are the two of you...?

{It isn't exactly strange, for a partnership to lead to more.}

[tauborn]

[His face turns a shade that matches his hair.]

N-n-no! Not like that! Just--it's dark in there and my dog likes to sleep in there! [His face feels like it's on fire because that is so totally not the impression he had been intending to make.] And yeah! So it's not like that! We're friends, and he's my partner, but we're just friends.

[itaidakimasu]

Oh! Sorry, sorry...I can be a bit too nosy sometimes. The downside of being a detective. I probably shouldn't have pried...

[tauborn]

Ah, no, I mean, it's okay.

[He can't really explain what other reasons he has to a girl he just met, though the dog one is pretty true. Firecracker is an excellent snuggler. But it's definitely time to change the subject.]

A-anyway, being a detective sounds cool, though. I bet you're really smart.
