Description: Every morning in the city, Morning Training takes place to prepare the guests of the city for the war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on February 25th.

It's perfect, actually. [With only a slight groan, he sits up, stretching his neck and rolling his shoulders.]

How's your morning going?

Like it always does. I ain't complainin'; I had a dumbass cold after that tsunami in Norway that kept me in bed a few days. My partner kept me all cooped up until I got better.

Yeah. Norway was... cold.

[Takuto had been there, but the experience had only made him decide to get on with things. It still meant he was exhausted, though.]

Do you... know how to swim?

'Course I do! Y'got this huge river runnin' through the town I'm from... every kid's had a dip in it.

[Besides, it explained why he just had to give swimming lessons yesterday.]

There was a lake not too far from where I grew up. And then I went to live on an island.

[He stretched his arms high over his head.]

Iza's been restless lately. Guess she misses Firecracker. So now I'm torn on gettin' another cat or a dog...

Huh? Really?

[Firecracker, on the other hand, is always full of restless energy unless he's just been taken out or played with.] Well, I could always bring Firecracker over... or you could bring her back over to my place?

She might feel a little better with the puppy on her turf. I'm told I should have people over more often, anyway...

[The thought of that conversation made him wrinkle his nose a bit. What was something like THAT supposed to mean? It almost sounded like he had no friends at all.]

[He gives Kanji a growing grin... which fades a little when he catches sight of the boy's wrinkled nose.]

It's up to you, though. I mean, I'd love to come over, but... if you like your privacy or something, I understand.

Huh? Havin' people over don't bug me. Don't sweat it.

[tauborn]

Okay, then. Just let me know when it's a good day for you! I usually get up around seven or eight, so anytime until midnight is good.

That's... seven or eight in the evening.

You work nights or somethin'?

[tauborn]

Midnight to six. I just joined the Watch.

Damn. That sucks. [Unless he volunteered for graveyard shifts... he himself was up until about 3-4 AM most nights, but that was different!]

The hell're you out here for, then? You should be sleepin'!

[tauborn]

Well, morning training only happens in the morning, so.... [He shrugs. Once he got use to the schedule, he was sure he'd be okay. As it is, it's not terribly bad.]

And Firecracker will be wanting to go on a walk pretty soon.

Your partner doesn't do it?

[tauborn]

[He snorts a little. That would be the day.]

Hahaha, no.

And besides, Aion and I have the same shift.

...Why don't I do it? Little guy can't hold it in all night while you're off on patrol.

[Takuto looks a little embarrassed.]

W-well, you don't have to take care of my dog for me.... I mean, he sleeps pretty soundly through the night, and I let him out between patrol and morning training. [And he leaves the balcony door open just a little so Firecracker can use a puppy sandbox out there if he really has to.]

[Really, he wanted an excuse to pet the puppy. Kanji shrugged.]

If you say so.

[He paused, and looked down when he felt something brush against his side. It looked like that little bit of grappling during a spar tore his shirt up along the seam. He took hold of the material and looked it over.]

...Damn it. Hold on a sec.

[Not again. He fished a little gray box from his coat pocket and settled onto the grass. The box was opened, revealing several tiny spools of thread, scissors, and multiple needles. He selected a gray thread, and one of his thinner needles. It'd bother him if he didn't fix it now. The needle was threaded with next to no effort.]

I had someone come up n' try to get me to join, once. Told 'em no. I can't stand cops... why the hell would I wanna join somethin' like that?

[tauborn]

[He shuffles a little bit closer to see what Kanji's up to with that little box.] You can sew?

[The question isn't derogatory at all. He's more impressed and fascinated because it's something Takuto has never learned, and never really seen done before, either. His grandfather didn't know what to do with torn clothes, so together they'd just had to either get new ones, or, in the case of that middle school uniform that one time, they'd had to send it to a tailor's.

Still, he can't help think it's kind of like breaking a stereotype to hear a tough-looking guy say he can't stand cops while he's so deftly using a needle and thread.]

[He was three stitches in when the question was out in the open, and Kanji's hands kept on moving. Despite his comfort level in just sitting down and mending his clothes with an audience, a bit of pink still stung at his face.]

Been doin' it since I was little. My, uh... family runs a textile shop.

[He hiked up his shirt a little, turning that part of the shirt inside out to see his stitch better.]

That seems so... useful.

[He watches intently, unaware that he might be making Kanji feel awkward.]

Your whole family makes clothes and stuff?

I can. I dunno about Ma... [He snorted. She did seem to be really good at trolling him pissing him off.]

[Gray eyes lifted from his work, and his face stung a little more. An elbow shoved down his shirt a little more. Self-conscious? After that mild interruption, he finished down the line and worked to tie it off.]
