It had been a little over a week since the sandstorm, and thus a little over a week since the last batch of newcomers. When the readings indicated that BREW was activating again so quickly, it was a bit of a scramble to get everything prepared. The last time it activated before then was early February, so this really was a small time frame. It had been some time since that happened.

But everyone dutifully prepared just in time for the first arrivals. It was also a relatively good day despite the past few rain showers. At least things were much calmer now.

No way, Kid. Your dad's probably very proud of you for all the hard work you've done. He wouldn't hold one day against you.

In any case, it wasn't your fault. BREW's dumping more people on our doorstep is always super-hectic. Things just got a little mixed up. Nobody died. Besides, the volunteers really stepped up to the plate to make up for Excalibur being Excalibur. Don't forget that they were once new like this group, but they're still willing to help you out.

[She's going to reach out with her other hand to gently try and pry his fingers off his scalp.]

The newbies will settle in all right, and within a month or two, they'll be stepping up to help you out, too.

[BLEARY EYED as he continues to just. go through his anguish.]

[Okay, so she's pulling some emotional blackmail, but whatever pulls him out of a funk.]

How you believe how I perform my job doesn't have anything to do with what that sword did to ruin....everything...

[HE'S TEETERING BACK AGAIN.]

[Liz is pro at video games where you have to make small adjustments to keep your balance. SHE GETS SO MUCH PRACTICE IN REAL LIFE.]

Which is Excalibur being Excalibur. It's not like you have any control over him when he decides to be a pain.

Sometimes things get thrown randomly at you, and you have to handle the aftermath. You do a great job at that.

[She gives him an encouraging smile.]

Just stop blaming yourself over Excalibur mucking things up, okay?

[at least Patti wasn't around. she would have probably dog piled on them—wait a minute.]

By the way, where's Patti?

To be honest, your guess is as good as mine at the moment. I was trying to find her to act as my backup if you didn't pull out of your funk. She's probably back at the Manor though.

Hm...well I could track her down, but it's most likely that she is.

[and...pause.]

[She gives him a grin.]

You're welcome. Now come on. We need to find Patty and get a clean up crew in here to get rid of all this junk.

[So you don't feel depressed over it anymore. Seriously, Kid. 8|]

[a clean up crew...might not do it right! but all the more reason to get Patty because someone might come along and do that just that.]

All right, hold on. Let's see if I can pick her up with my Soul Perception.

[because it would be nice if she was actually around Shibusen. tracking...tracking...where is she]

[Liz waits patiently as Kid does his thing. In the old days, she would be freaking out right now since she and Patty had always stayed side-by-side. She's still a bit unnerved, but she knows Patty is safe inside the barrier.]

You're right, she's at home.

She probably got bored with everything going on.

[Probably a good thing. Liz never wants to see what happens if you put Excalibur and Patty in a room together. Either they'd get along really well or Patty would be constantly trying to obliterate Excalibur. Either scenario did not bode well.]

We should get going, too, then.

[Gonna try and coax you away from all this mess.]

We can get a cleaning crew in here to get most of this junk out and then you can arrange things how you like them. How does that sound?

Well...if it's only cleaning...

I'll give them specific instructions to just clean and to leave arrangement to you.

[The cleaning crew most likely won't put up a fuss. They know how their boss is. Fighting with him only drags it out.]

[and wow, he feels more exhausted now than he did before.]

[Victory! She is so going to treat herself to a new pair of shoes for successfully avoiding a full-on breakdown.]

Let's get home then. I don't know about you, but I'm beat after hunting all over the place for Patty.
