Description: Every morning in the city, Morning Training takes place to prepare the guests of the city for the war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on February March 4th.

Honestly? I dunno. [ Duo shrugs carelessly, already pretty disillusioned about the whole myths and legends of the planet sort of thing, whether it's his own world or this one. ]

I'm just looking for someone I can partner with for a few missions - I'm getting antsy and that's never a good thing in the middle of a war.

[Haruka’s expression turns blank. She doesn't get it.]

Why’s that? -The antsy during a war being bad thing, I mean.

[The antsy part itself she understands perfectly.]

Because the longer it's quiet the worse it'll be when they attack, generally. [ A short pause as he pulls his braid over his shoulder, a stray stroke here or there couldn't hurt at all. ]

It gets a little bit like I'm on edge, when these sorts of things happen..

...Oh.

[She really hadn't considered that. If anything, she had been taking the peace for granted.

This changes things completely. Haruka's frown deepens as the cogs start to turn.]

Do you think, if I complete as many missions as I can in whatever time is left, that it'd make a difference when they attack?

[She's pretty sure the answer will be 'yes', she just wants to hear it out loud before she embarks on her self-appointed quest. Because somebody's got to do it and why shouldn't it be her?]

No, not really. [ Hey, at least he's being honest here. He gives her a bit of an understanding look anyway, knowing how it felt to try and change things for the better before they even had a chance to get worse. Either way, it was probably better to burst her bubble. ]

You'd just break your back before hand and then not be much help when they came through. From the sounds of their forces a couple'a missions might not really do much in the grand scheme of things.

[Stunned, Haruka’s natural reaction is to protest.]

Not even if I complete... every...

[...okay no, that was deluded. And vain.

Haruka lowered her head, raising it again once she felt a little more collected.]

Okay. So. Then I go back to searching for the person I work really well with and once I've found them, we work on getting really good at fighting together. So, there'd be missions as well. And plenty more if we make it through the upcoming attack. I still want to help as many people as I can.

[Her fists clench together tightly. This is where things got tricky.]

...I came over here because I want to try synchronizing with you. I’ve learned the basics of fighting now, and I'm learning more every day. I'm nowhere near good yet, but I am not useless and I will not die on you. And I like you and I know you a little bit, so... I...

...You doesn't seem like a bad choice, is all.

[ He listens to her talk for a little while, eyebrow raised but taking in what she has to say regardless. Duo's always been a good listener, even if the ideas turn out to be not quite what he would support or necessarily condone. Naturally this means... kind of waiting for her to get to the point, though he does look a little bemused when she finally says that she wants to try and work with him. He doesn't know why that's kind of amusing to him, really - maybe because he could've called it.

Forgive him, Haruka, he doesn't mean to look as amused as he does. ]

You're sure you wanna work with me? Don't make any promises you can't keep about stayin' alive, you know....

I don't see why we can't. And if things work out, then I'll teach you a little something about war games and survival, huh? Deal?

[When she sees that look, she braces herself for some kind of gentle refusal. Haruka’s happily surprised when it's not, her expression makes that clear.]

Yes! -And yes please! Thank you!

[-there's really something she should explain though. All the joy leaves her voice and her expression turns grim.]

It's a promise I'll keep. Trust me.

[there's a pause in which she looks away before continuing.]

...Once upon a time, I went on a mission to rescue a friend. I died. I absolutely refuse to experience that again for a good long time.

I was resurrected, so don't worry about that part. But I know exactly what dying can feel like and I'll do absolutely anything to save myself at the last second. Bar sacrificing someone, of course.

[ Well that... was a brand new nugget of information. He stops for a moment, giving her a look as if expecting her to say that she was joking, but.. she seems a little too serious for that.

Still.... ]

You seriously died and were resurrected?

[She nods.

...Where to start with the explanation though. Seriously.]

Yeah. Basically... okay, a friend was kidnapped and taken to the Tree of Life, right? Except it's not a tree, it's this mystical crystal and rock formation in the shape of tree. It also has an immune system to protect it from invaders. Which is what the tree mistook me and my friends for. So, the antibodies got us, everything hurt and then there was absolute nothing. But then, I... came back. I didn't find out why until later, but apparently our Pokemon explained to the deity of the tree that there'd been a horrible misunderstanding, so it brought us back to life for them. The tree doesn't consider Pokemon to be intruders, just humans, so that's why they were left unharmed.

[and then that deity started to die and everything started falling apart and exploding so Lucario died to reverse the damage. The end.]
