Description: Every morning in the city, Morning Training takes place to prepare the guests of the city for the war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on February March 4th.

After having being coerced by Gai into a teaching position, Kratos makes his way over to the Batch Four area to keep an eye on things. Him an instructor. It didn't have a particularly bad ring to it.

So anyone in the area can feel free to come bug the new guy with all your needs: questions, sparring, trolling, and whatever else. He'll be watching you all fairly closely, occasionally going off to do his own thing and train, too. Even instructors need to get some practice in, after all.]

[Hughes figures he should greet his fellow instructor at some point, but...is it just him or is this redhead's face stuck in a permanent image of disinterest? Goodness! That will not do!

He walks over and gives a friendly wave.]

Hey. It looks like we're supervising together, huh?

[The approaching man draws his attention quickly enough, but the only response that wave gets is a small nod of acknowledgement. Waving just isn't his thing.]

It appears that way.

[Not much of a conversationalist, either, if Hughes can't tell.]

Cool. I don't think we've met before. I'm Hughes. Maes Hughes.

[He offers his hand for a handshake.]

[There's a brief glance at the outstretched hand before he reaches out and shakes it.]

Kratos Aurion and, no, I don't believe we have.

[He returns the handshake firmly.]

Nice to meet you, Kratos! How long have you been here? In Death City, I mean.

[Yes. Have a conversation with Hughes, Kratos.]

[Well, Hughes certainly seems energetic.]

Approximately two months. Yourself?

[To be fair, he's not too bad at conversation once it actually gets going. Politeness is a wonderful thing]

[Energetic is probably an understatement.]

A few weeks now. Almost a month. Have you had this job for long?

[flamberge]

No, this would be my first day.

[As he says that, he does a quick scan of the area. It isn't to ignore Hughes, but just to double check that everything going well. Is it obvious this is a guy who takes his job seriously?]

Oh! So you're just like me then... [Hughes trails off and glances around, too. There is not much going on though, so he starts up again. Talking is clearly more interesting than doing his job.] Can't imagine why they'd stick two new people in the same area, but maybe their really that shorthanded, eh? [He chuckles and looks back over at Kratos.]

[Once satisfied with how training's going, Kratos turns his attention back towards Hughes. Funny how Gai said no one else was available for the job. Then again, a few instructors for an area were likely necessary.]

That's most likely the case. A good number of instructors had apparently been returned home by BREW.

Yeah. Gai somehow convinced me to come help. I don't really remember how, but...well, here I am, hehe.

So what kind of fighting do you do?

Gai appears to be rather skilled in the art of coercion.

Primarily that with a sword or dagger. Yourself?

So I've noticed. [Hughes chuckles.]

I typically use firearms since they became the standard on my world, but I specialize in close range combat; namely hand-to-hand. And, though I don't have them anymore, I used to keep throwing daggers on me as my backup weapon of choice.

[That is quite an array of skill.]

Had you learned these skills out of necessity or as a recreational hobby?

[comradery]

It was originally recreational hobby, but... It ended up coming in handy at the military academy I attended, so it sort of became an amalgamation of the two.

Then you'd been involved with the military of your world?

[comradery]

Yep. I was an investigator for the military, actually. Something like a detective, if you will. I worked on serial cases related with alchemy.

[flamberge]

Alchemy?

[That's something which doesn't exist in his world so color him curious about what it is.]

[comradery]

Yeah, alchemy. In this world, there seems to be something similar called chemistry, though it's based on forming chemical reactions rather than generating them yourself. On the world I'm from, people can manipulate physical elements on an atomic level through transmutation circles. Like, for example, with alchemy you could turn water into alcohol if you were learned enough in the skill. Or you could do something as simple as heating up water to boiling temperature by making the atoms vibrate against each other.

[He gives a nod. Easy enough to follow.]

I'm to assume alchemy serves combat purposes or something of the like if the military deems it important enough to investigate?

[comradery]

Yep. It makes a fairly good weapon if you know how to use it effectively. Normal people that can't use alchemy will find fighting against quite difficulty, even if they have firearms in their possession.

[flamberge]

And not everyone who is capable of alchemy uses it for the greater good, which is where an investigator would come in handy, correct?

[comradery]

More or less. Actually, the main case I was last working on was that of a serial murderer who had been using alchemy to destroy people from the inside out. It was some pretty nasty business... It was pretty hard to track the guy down especially because he had no identity for us to go off of. He was a nobody, and there were no records on him.

When someone doesn't officially exist capture tends to prove difficult. Had you eventually captured the culprit?
