Time: 6am to 9am
Description: Every morning in the city, Morning Training takes place to prepare the guests of the city for the war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on February March 4th.

[At least they both seemed to be trying--perhaps Kanji more than Cloud. Though if the wrong thing was said, it could all go downhill quickly.]

[She went quiet as they talked about the tsunami, hoping it might bring about some sort of camaraderie.]

[He shrugged at the mention of punching logs, not about to say that he had almost been killed out there. That totally wasn't manly at all.]

The Kishin Eggs were easy, but the water was difficult. More... getting swept away was difficult, but few were hurt.

[He glanced towards Tifa to make certain he wasn't stepping on toes with this conversation.]

[Please don't mention the living room brawl, Tifa. Fevers make anybody stupid.]

I hear that. The chick I was with couldn't swim... that added another notch'a 'hard' to the whole thing. Gave her a swimming lesson when I got better, but...

[He... doesn't want to talk about that big fat batch of awkward.]

[A pause. A brow furrowed.]

I know that look. Y'got somethin' you wanna say, say it.

[Tifa made a glance between them, almost curious how they might act when taking the guardrails down. If they were going to have any words, they might as well get over it.

The only issue she thought of was that Kanji might be remembering what she'd told him about Cloud and Sephiroth partnering and her reaction to it, and Cloud seemed to suspect Kanji and her partnership was not entirely platonic.]

You guys can speak freely, you know... [She kept her tone light, hoping it would stay at just words.]

[Yeah, having a non-swimmer would make things a little more complicated, though that begged the question why Tifa wasn't on that battlefield. He didn't think it was his place to ask, so he just concentrated on the current topics.]

Water like that doesn't require swimming. It requires grabbing something and holding on for dear life.

[His attention was drawn from Tifa again, raising an eyebrow.]

Tch... I wasn't born yesterday. When I found out my friend from home got themselves a partner, first thing I wanted to do was grill the guy.

[He stood up straighter.]

So let's quit screwin' around, talkin' about the tsunami. Y'wanna grill me, then grill me.

[And there it was. Tifa sighed, but waved her hand a little at the two of them. Boys.]

Go ahead, go ahead. The sooner you guys get this over with, the sooner we can just act like normal adults again.

[Cloud couldn't help it, but he drew himself up to his full and still rather unimpressive height at the implication that he came here to grill the guy. He loosened his fists at his sides before his head tipped up and an arrogant smirk twisted his lips.]

When I grill you, it will be on my terms, not because you told me to. Loosen the chain and keep to the small talk, would you?

[He jabbed a thumb in Tifa's direction.] We're in the presence of a lady, so keep it down. I hope this isn't the reason I was brought here because I want nothing to do with a confrontation like this.

[Can you believe this guy? Kanji wrinkled his nose and his frown deepened, that stubborn streak flaring up.]

I don't see a chain. I'm givin' you a free shot.

[He nodded to Tifa.]

Y'never liked when I held back on you... why the hell should I start doin' that now?

[And gray eyes were steely when they turned back to Cloud, remembering the two rules he set for himself, focusing on rule number two: Get people to understand him.]

Actin' tough's the easy way out anyway.

[And just like that, it went down just as Tifa had suspected but hoped it wouldn't. Maybe they were both just too hotheaded and stubborn to really get along.]

Alright, just calm down. No one came to confront anyone. I wanted you guys to meet because... well, you're the most important people in my life right now, okay? I thought it'd be nice if you could get along.

[She sighed and rubbed her forehead a little bit, then shot Cloud a look.]

You can't talk about beating me up and then claim people should hold back in front of me because I'm a woman. Don't pull that one.

[And now the look to Kanji.] He doesn't have anything to grill you about, don't get defensive.

[Hands on her hips, she gave them both a scolding look, fuming slightly.] Stop acting like this, there's absolutely no reason for it.

[He kept his stance, not about to be pushed into anything even from someone taller and gruff than he was. Or especially than that.]

I don't need anything free.

[Still, he backed off when Tifa seemed to be displeased with them both, and he stepped away and half-turned his back to Kanji. Folding his arms across his chest stubbornly, he glanced around the field.]

Tifa's right. Keep to the pleasantries.

Tch...!

[But despite his fouling mood, he listened to Tifa. Though Cloud's last comment had his upper lip peeling back a little, a growl in his throat, he snorted and turned his head away.]

Whatever.

[A side-glance.]

Can't see if the guy's fulla shit until that cast comes off, anyway.

[Pleasantries... what was that supposed to mean, anyway? He did want to mention his having spoken to Sephiroth, but he wasn't sure if he should.]

[It seemed to diffuse the situation enough for now, so she sighed a little, dropping her arms to her sides. Maybe when the time came and they could knock at each other a bit, it would do them some good, get the some of the energy out.]

Alright, good. Just don't get bent out of shape over nothing.

[Now that they'd met, she wasn't sure exactly what was supposed to happen now. Glancing between them again, she gave a little shrug.]

Did you guys have more training you needed to do?

[It seemed to him that they were gunning for a fight and they had just met. He wasn't particularly interested in pushing around Tifa's partner, but he wasn't about to back down from a fight either. He'd do it now too, cast or no cast.

He glanced at Kanji at the 'full of shit' comment, the insinuation for a fight plain.]

Not interested.

[He shifted his stance before shrugging his shoulders.]

Not with each other, clearly. I'll leave you two be, partners and all.

[He turned and began to walk the way that he had come.]

[His expression darkened then, and he watched Cloud head off, glaring daggers into his retreating back.]

[He turned away then, and though he was late in doing so, chose to answer her question.]

Had enough training for one day. I got stuff to do.

[And he was ready to storm away himself, but he paused. His face fell. The glance he gave to Tifa was rather sheepish.]

...Sorry.

[A sigh as he visibly deflated.]

I'll see you later, okay?

[A nod, and he stuck his hands in his pockets and headed off.]

[She'd been about to call out to Cloud before he went off, but her attention was drawn back to Kanji, who was clearly in a worse mood from the encounter. Instead of going after either of them, Tifa just gave an exasperated sigh, reminding herself to never try and make either of them be friends with anyone again before going off to do her own thing.]
