Description: Every morning in the city, Morning Training takes place to prepare the guests of the city for the war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on February March 4th.

He smirked. "Mostly because I wouldn't even get up for anything like that right now." But she was probably right. It wasn't just about drive. He didn't have the energy either.

Maybe it wasn't a good thing to tell a lady, but Obito like to be honest where he could be. Saved his lies for when they mattered most.

"Nah, I won't do that." He held a hand up in the air and waved it lazily. "I have obligations to take care of. Hell, I even owe this world my time for bring me back to life, so..."

... And it took Obito a second to realize he had just admitted casually that he had died back home. Oh. Oops.

Clare stuck her tongue out at him over his not having the energy for a fight, juvenile, yes. But... it was a better exchange than she was hoping for, he had some humor in him in spite of all the... whatever he was dealing that he seemed trapped in.

She was a bit surprised at that revelation, but not for the reason Obito might have thought. "Wondering when you'd share that with me..." her voice was drifty, like it was some milestone they reached. Which... it kinda was, a secret of real value he shared with her. Granted, she figured out it was something like that based on his age, what he said about home, and his friendship with Kakashi. "I mean, I didn't know for sure for sure, but it's what made sense. And even if that's not the thing on your mind, glad you shared it with me."

He can appreciate a childish gesture. It was nice to act like a carefree kid every now and then. He wasn't likely going to feel like a kid again for a long while now.

Obito had been dropping the occasional hint every now and then, plus, yeah, age differences were kind of telling. Still... Obito blew out a puff of air, put out with himself. "I don't..."

He growled in his throat and sat up abruptly, scratching at the grass that clung to the back of his neck and hair. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you before. I don't really... like to remember it all that much." He purses his lips in a frown. "There's a lot of things I regret."

Childish gestures are sometimes good in adults who've been pushed around by life too much, there's no question actual kids deserve them time to time.

Sitting up probably wasn't the best move, because Clare's a hugging sort. And... this is exactly the time to give someone a hug, "I figured." She had a laundry list of reasons why Obito didn't tell her, and pretty much what she came back to were 'He doesn't trust easily' and 'would you linger on your own death?' "It's not wrong to pretend it isn't there, especially when you can't do anything about it.

Clare had lots of faults, but just as many virtues. The first and foremost in those being compassion, she cares... a lot, about everyone. It's why she didn't bring it up, what good would it do for her to bring it up, it's a part of him, it's his cross, she can only help him if he desires it.

No doubt. Kakashi could even teach Clare a thing or two about adults appreciating childish gestures.

Oh great, a hug. As much as Obito didn't like them, he couldn't help but want them. Even still, he did nothing to reciprocate it. Just sat there, stiff and awkward, but not pushing her away either.

"I try not to think about it. But I can't help it." He ground his teeth, flexing his jaw. "I can't change those things from before and I just... I hate it."

Clare wasn't too surprised Obito wasn't hugging back, he was a ninja and at that age where hugs were the most devastating thing in the world... but he still needed them, especially in whatever mood he was in.

"I know, I know, everyone's past is full of things they can't change. Even if they desperately want them to change," Clare restrained herself from any other form of mothering, but she was really tempted to pet his hair or something else stupid. "It's not exactly easy stuff to just deal with, and your plate happens to be loaded with even worse stuff."

"But other people can change things if they just try. At least they could do... something. Move away, or break out of their job, or whatever." Obito shook his head. It wasn't fair to say everyone could change things, but compared to his problems? He really did feel singled out among an ocean of people.

"My whole family... everyone I knew back home..." Obito glanced up at Clare's eyes, then looked back down at the dry grass in front of him. "You know, everyone I was close with, except for Gai and Kakashi, they're all dead. All of them. And I'm not exaggerating."

Between that look, and what he said, she couldn't actually come up with a response, "Every...one..?" She understood that the ninjas were from a world of danger, they were her age or younger and trained to kill better than they were to handle romance. But she didn't even fathom something this... this.

"Oh, Obito," Clare wanted an explanation, something with more meat to it, something she could understand... but she couldn't ask it. It was too much to ask him to tell her, it was too much to ask him to explain. The words felt dead in her mind, nothing about them could really contain how much she felt for him, and she knew the words wouldn't make up for it, but she said them anyway. "I'm sorry."

Technically, the pain was the same for Kakashi and Gai as it was for Obito, except they had longer to deal with it. To Obito, those deaths were all so fresh in his mind, and most of them he hadn't even gotten to experience first-hand. But the ring of truth had coated Gai's words. The man wasn't lying when he had told Obito the whole story.

He wished he could explain. But the words didn't come easily. How could he tell her that the man he had seen as just his darling little cousin had been the one to murder his whole family? Or that even shinobi as strong as his sensei could die so easily?

He couldn't. He just. Couldn't. "I'm sorry, too."

Some things don't heal, healing involves it getting better. In this case, you just grew accustomed to it. Your world gets a bit less colorful and you cope with the changes. Clare was coming to grips with her's, but it still took her time, and her losses were not nearly as grave as this.

Clare couldn't ask for an explanation, she... wanted one because she liked to know. She couldn't truly understand without knowing. But... a cowardly part of her didn't. She didn't want to have her world grayed anymore than it needed to be. It was a part of her she didn't like, she hid it by not asking for Obito. He didn't need to tell her yet.

She didn't say anything else. She could be there for him, if he pushed her away she'd just sit next to him for a little while. What could she say, what was there to say here?

The colorlessness Obito could understand. Very well. For now, his world looked pretty bleak. If he stopped to really think about it, he would realize that Kakashi felt this way too, and he had someone he could confide in completely without bringing down any further. Since he was already at rock bottom. But Clare...

He almost felt bad telling her so much. But if she asked, he wasn't going to deny her anything. At least, short of the stuff that might make him burst into tears, which he was apt to do.

Taking a deep breath, Obito straightens but doesn't move to push her away. She doesn't deserve that. "Gai said..." He takes another deep breath. "Gai says I should move forward. And... I think that's right. But I'm not sure what that means for me right now."
