Description: Every morning in the city, Morning Training takes place to prepare the guests of the city for the war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on February March 4th.

"Ling went home?" she asked. If there weren't more important people to worry herself about, she would have been sad over it, but she didn't have the energy. She just acknowledged it and moved on.

"They don't really know how BREW works, Kanji. They're just guessing," Lili said. "I'm sure they're not useless. If it were sending people home that it has no use for, I would have been gone ages ago, considering that I haven't ever helped in the war and I have no intention to start."

That seemed to help a little. There was a lot about BREW nobody knew and he, too, had heard of a couple of theories on why the Demon Tool did what it did. Still, it was a mild comfort to hear something to the contrary from someone else.

But he looked up, brows furrowed. "And nobody's lookin' into it? Y'think they'd try n' find an instruction manual or somethin'!"

Everything had one! Well, they were supposed to, anyway. Kanji sighed.

"...And you're not useless, Lili. BREW can suck it."

"I know I'm not useless," she said, confident of that much, at least. "But to BREW, I am, because I'm not interested in doing whatever it brought me here for."

It was hard to tell sometimes, especially from guarded sorts. With her confidence, Kanji nodded.

"You're given a choice anyway. Y'made yours." He himself had been hesitant in making his answer, even if he later agreed to fight. He wondered what he'd be like now if he chose to be a civilian instead.

But as he paused to think, another question came to mind entirely. Reminded by the sting in his knuckles, he spoke. "So..."

"Does everybody try to leave a letter? I wanna check out Cinderella's place, see if maybe somethin' was left behind, y'know?"

"I don't know," she replied with a shrug. Lili hadn't really thought about that until the last few days. During one of her short phases of sobriety she thought about writing some, herself, but she wouldn't know what to say. If she has something important to say, she'd rather do it face-to-face.

Of course, BREW clearly wasn't interested in catering to her preferences.

"I'm sure some people aren't the letter-writing type. Most of Leo's were just a few words."

He himself wasn't one with words, but stubbornly refused to think about writing any to leave behind. He might suddenly be sent home some day, who knows, but that wasn't something he liked to dwell on.

"Maybe he figured he didn't wanna leave somethin' sappy. S'bad enough that BREW randomly chucks people on home... or maybe he figures he might just get spat back here," he offered. He didn't know the guy, but that was what made sense.

"You're right," she admitted. Lili fell quiet, thinking. She couldn't get her hopes up that Leo would come back, but at the same time, it had only been a couple days. People left for a few days all the time, just to find themselves in Death City all over again.

Waiting for something that probably wouldn't happen would kill her, so she out it out of her mind.

And as Lili fell quiet, Kanji didn't know what to do. She'd lost people to BREW, and so did he. There was a possibility that they'd all come back someday, but the more time went by, he'd learned, the higher of the chance that they'd come back a strange blank slate. Was it more painful to have them never come back, or to have them return and completely 'forget' about you due to alternate timelines?

He hated this timeline bullshit.

Before Kanji could really think of much else to say, he moved. Maybe she'd been bothered by the Brigade earlier, but he didn't know, nor did he know if it was something needed right now. There was only the jingle of the bullet charm around his neck as he reached out and pulled her in. His grip was a little unsure when he hugged her, ready to spring back at the slightest sign of being pushed back; he was never sure when it was a good or bad time to do anything like this.

"...Sorry."

That was another question Lili had thought about a lot. In most cases, she would prefer that they stay home - most people wanted to go home, and they were better off there, anyway. In Leo's case, and in the cases of a few people that she was now afraid for, their time was ticking back home, or they were already dead. Even if they didn't want to be here, at least she knew they would be safer.

Lili was still a little lost in thought when Kanji's hug snapped her out of it. He didn't have to worry about offending her, she was an affectionate person normally, but then, it was just what she needed. She hugged him back, letting out a heavy sigh and resting against his chest.

"Don't be. It's fine."
