Description: Every morning in the city, Morning Training takes place to prepare the guests of the city for the war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on February March 4th.

Heh, exactly! They can figure out how much this kinda stuff pops seams n' breaks buttons.

[It was kind of cool how agile birds were, that bounce from head to shoulder practically flawless. Getting stared at by the thing was still unsettling as hell, though.]

[But he blinked at her, those pesky butterflies whirling around in his stomach again as she removed her hat.]

I-I don't m-mind at all! Uh, l-lemme see it a sec...

[Oof, even from here the poor hat looked like it needed work. And a bit of a cleaning. He carefully sidestepped a bit to sort of approach from the not-crow side of her to take the hat and get a closer look.]

[Of course the crow still gets riled no matter which side he got on, but a narrow-eyed glance towards it made it stop opening its wings and resume sitting quietly]

[Naoto felt a little bare without her hat, but it was something she would have to get use to.]

[Taking into consideration the importance of the hat, he looked it over with scrutiny. The claws had done some work on the hemming, but it was the button that was looking like a sorry sort.]

Y-yeah, I can fix this. Save the button, too. [And he sounded rather proud of it.]

But the hat's off-limits to Birdbrain after it's fixed, got it?

[He turned the hat around.]

Y'got somethin' gentle to wash the fabric?

[Some of it had been pecked as well by the initial assault. Naoto looked at it, sad to see its state. When he said he could save it, she was relieved.]

I'll make sure it roosts somewhere not as important.

[Again, she nodded.]

Yes, but it's in the apartment. I'll bring it by your room once training has concluded.

S-sure. [Tifa was hanging out with Cloud today. Would she be late coming back home? Wait, shit, was he a creep for thinking that!?]

Uh, I-I can do the repairs right here so I'm not jus' takin' the hat from ya.

[He could commiserate; she probably felt a little n-naked without the hat, just like he did without the weight of a coat on his shoulders. He was patting his pockets, the location of his sewing kit temporarily - embarrassingly - forgotten, however.]

[Naoto can't read your mind Kanji, but she would be worried right now.]

Oh... well, if you could, I would appreciate it.

[She did miss having it. The crow could stop looking between them with its beady eyes suspiciously... or maybe its being smug. Stop it either way.]

[Tifa had her suspicions and would make things far more awkward than needed... just as Cloud had his. Urgh, all the shifty looks lately were annoying him.]

Got it.

[Aha, here it is. Kinda slid further back in the pocket after that last spar! He found a spot in the grass and had a seat before he rest the hat on a knee and got to work picking a needle and thread to work with. He nodded to the crow.]

...You keepin' it?

[What is Cloud suspicious about?]

[Naoto decided to follow and sat down beside him. The crow briefly flapped its wings, settling down again with a shift of its talons. Naoto glances at crow, watching it tilt its head. She shrugs slightly]

I'm not sure, but it doesn't seem too keen on leaving now.

[Tifa had mentioned how she drags him out of bed in the morning to Cloud, who assumed that they... uh... sleep together. That was fun to explain.]

[Needle threaded, he used the tip to pull out the frayed threading in the hems before putting a fresh line stitch down.]

Seems like it. Maybe s'like that grudge thing, only the opposite; crow's gotta crush.

[He grinned a bit, but kept his focus on his work.]

[Kanji? Sleeping with someone? Small, pink rabbit yes, but not a person.]

[A crush? Naoto gives him a look because that's ridiculous]

[W-what's that supposed to mean? Rabbits were middle school. Now it's an emperor penguin.]

[And man can he feel that look. His focus became all the more intense on his threading, color creeping across his face.]

[Do you need a warm body there? Oh, penguins... that makes sense.]

[Uh, well, there's... the desert does get kinda cold at night and s-so, uh... I-I... She could borrow Sir Pengin whenever.]

Well, seein' as if the crow's gotta crush on my-- uh, y-you...

[He let that hang, feeling like he was just digging himself a hole at this point. He finished that line, tied off the end, and started on the second. He should leave the bad jokes to Teddie, maybe.]

[... Well, some nights it is cold. Uhm, maybe.]

I doubt it. Besides, it seems small... it's possibly a female crow.

[Unless it was just a smaller breed. That still requires proper testing. Well, at least he wasn't jealous she was feeding the crow.]

A vet can check, right? Think the guy that I bring Iza to can figure somethin' out.

[Though he wondered how you check the sex of a bird. Can't exactly take a peek down below, could you?]

He'll require a blood sample. We'll have to make sure it will cooperate.

Seems to like those walnuts. Maybe if you keep it busy with somethin' tasty it won't notice gettin' poked too much.

[He inspected his work closer. Okay, that line was clean...]

Iza had to get her shots the other day. She freaked out at first, but when I held her it didn't seem so scary to her.

[Not to mention the treats she got for being a very, very good girl.]

They're omnivores, but I'm not sure if food will distract it enough to behave.

[She falls silent, thinking]

... Could you give me your vet's number?

[You know... to see if he checks birds.]

Never know 'til you try. [There's always holding the little jerk down and just doing it.]

Yeah, just a sec.

[Lifting the needle to his mouth, he held the thread with his teeth to keep it taut, freeing a hand. He furrowed a brow as he retrieved his mirror and went through his contacts for a moment. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on how you interpret it, his contact list was small.]

If he doesn't do birds, he'll point ya to somebody who does.

[And a brief ping from Naoto's communicator as he sent the phone number.]

Also... If he can do it, tell 'im Tatsumi sent you.

Very true. [Ah, that's risky]

[His contact list was still bigger than hers. She only had several numbers for emergencies while maybe two or three were actually people she would contact normally. One number was Kanji's.]

[Quickly, she saves the number, nodding]

[How on earth he was making these connections, even he didn't know. Acting naturally might be working wonders for him, even the times when he was kind of an asshole.]

No problem.

[Mirror back in pocket, he resumed that line, and finished it up. He held the hat up in both hands, tilting it this way and that to examine and inner and outer portions of the stitching, and the overall appearance of the hat. The button would be the simplest fix, but there was the importance of the hat to maintain.]

I kinda wonder what else this hat's been through, inside the TV aside. S'a serious heirloom.

[He sort of wondered if he had any. Couldn't call the sewing kit one... his dad never mentioned owning it before giving it to him as a birthday present. Hmmmm.]

[Naoto acting natural seems to bore many people before they get to the essentials.]

[With the number, Naoto decides to try later. Chances were the vet clinic wasn't open this early in the morning. She would try calling at ten. For now, she watches Kanji work, raising her head at his statement]

You would have to ask my Grampa.

[He was pink at that, lowering the hat and gently prying the button off, working out the frayed threads.]

Guess that's fair, seein' as you were chatting up my mom that one day. Probably talked yer ear off, too...

[He could only imagine what sort of crap she was telling her. His mother kept her lips sealed on the details when he asked - no, grilled - her later.]

[Hmmm, the button was intact. You'd think the crow would yank that off first, but maybe the walnuts and puffing up at the sight of other people kept its little bird brain occupied. He ran a thumb over it and held it in place before turning the hat upside-down, making a 'plan of attack', as it were.]

No, not really. We had a pleasant conversation after I questioned her.

[Of course, then it was interrupted by a certain group of students, but that was fine. She had to get back to her investigation]

[The bird brain in question had been quiet for a decent amount of time now, head turning this way and that as it watched other people train. It nipped slightly at Naoto's hair and immediately, she held another walnut up for it. So it was still hungry...]

[A stiff shrug from him. She'd never encountered his mom and Yukiko's mother in the same room. Like a couple of damn hens... not to mention the things they'd talk about when he was younger.]

Caught 'er on a good day.

[And right... there. He hunched a bit, brows furrowed as he worked the needle through to make the button attachment. A bit of a toughie, but doable.]

...I'm pluckin' off feathers if you start pickin' off hair, bird.

[Got his eye on you, crow. Maybe he could use some nice feather quills.]
