*Knowing your limits is the first lesson. Gold star for you.*

Alright, Jun. My name's Auron and I'm one of the trainers for the beginners. Do you have any preference for any weapons at all?
pokaccenteballs: (Casting a spell for smiles)

[personal profile] pokaccenteballs 2012-07-13 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Auron, huh? Gotcha! [Here's to hoping he won't forget later on.]

And I've never even used a weapon before [Unless you count Poke Balls as weapons--or Pokemon, though Jun sees them more as partners.] so I'll try anything!
nofarplaneyet: (determined)

*A raw beginner? Well. Even he started that way.* All right. There's a lot of sword type Weapons in the city so it wouldn't hurt if you knew how to use one. *Auron fishes out a likely wooden one for Jun.* First thing is to know how to hold a sword.
pokaccenteballs: (If I could connect to this moment)

[personal profile] pokaccenteballs 2012-07-15 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Whoaaaa, cool! I've never seen a sword up close before! [He takes the wooden sword with one hand and begins slashing the air in all sorts of directions. A few moments later, he switches hands and does pretty much the same thing. Not too long after doing so, he takes a moment to admire the sword. MAN A SWORD HOW COOL IS THAT.

...A few seconds later, he realizes he should probably try and hold it the right way. He'll take the sword with both hands and hold it so that it's parallel to him, just as he's seen cartoon characters do on TV before.]

Hey, hey, am I doing it right?
nofarplaneyet: (battleready)

*So young to learn to fight by most people's standards. But not Auron's. He started using the sword at age 5.*

You have to have your body in the right stance too. Watch. *Strapped to Auron's back is a huge sword, nearly as tall as he is. He draws the sword and holds it in both hands and assumes a basic stance, something that can have him move easily in any direction.*
pokaccenteballs: (Casting a spell for smiles)

[personal profile] pokaccenteballs 2012-07-18 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
[DANG THAT'S A HUGE SWORD. It's so huge it temporarily distracts Jun from doing what he was told to do.

Fortunately, his willingness to learn is enough to snap him out of it. He'll attempt the same stance as Auron now.]

OK, this good? [His stance isn't 100% like Auron's, but it's getting there. And it's a lot better than the stance he had earlier.]
nofarplaneyet: (battleready)

[personal profile] nofarplaneyet 2012-07-19 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
*Auron walkd around around and correctd Jun's stance with gentle nudges here and there.*

All right. Now you have to be able to swing the sword properly. *Auron assumes the stance again and swings the sword from left to right, right to left, up and down.*
pokaccenteballs: (For always calling out to me)

[personal profile] pokaccenteballs 2012-07-22 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
OK, here goes! [He'll attempt the same thing--Left to right, right to left, and up to down. Except much faster. Thus, the sword's movements end up a bit shaky.

Jun'll try it again, only a bit more slowly. This time, the movements are less shaky, but still not perfect.]

Man, this is harder than I thought! Got any tips?
nofarplaneyet: (battleready)

[personal profile] nofarplaneyet 2012-07-22 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
It is hard. Only thing that'll make it better is practice. You have to build muscle to learn to put power behind your strikes.
pokaccenteballs: (I won't be able to quarrel)

[personal profile] pokaccenteballs 2012-07-26 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Muscle, huh... [He isn't the bulkiest.]

All right, I'll do my best! [He'll continue with swinging the sword.] Is there anything else?

[personal profile] nofarplaneyet 2012-07-27 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Let's see you do 100 repetitions of that. Then we can try some blocking. Think you can do that?
pokaccenteballs: (Casting a spell for smiles)

[personal profile] pokaccenteballs 2012-08-01 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
All right! [Left-right, right-left, up-down, left-right, right-left, up-down...

Eventually, he reaches the goal set for him.]
OK, I'm ready to try blocking!

*Oh, this kid is going to be sore in a few hours. At least he finished the exercise.*

Now. I'm going to attack you in the same pattern that you were practicing strikes. This time, you have to stop my blade before it touches you. *Be thankful he's not using the giant sword. He's taking mercy and using a dull practice blade.*
