Oh? Not a handgun person, eh? What do you usually use for combat then? [Not that he assumed young people her age would normally be wielding firearms in the first place, however, she did not seem to detest it as much as most of the other people he knew and clearly had no problems talking about it openly.]
malandragem: (That's something I'd like to see~)

[She doesn't actually like using guns if she doesn't have to- but she won't deny that they're at least a useful deterrent, usually.]

I generally try not to use weapons unless I must, but when I do, I use shotguns, usually- though they are different from usual models...

Yeah, not using weapons except when necessary is definitely a policy worth following, I'd say. A shotgun? [Woah, that is surprising.] You're capable of handling the recoil?

[Considering how small she is, that must mean she has a lot of upper body strength. How does a young girl learn to wield such a weapon though?]
malandragem: (So about that compensation...)

[personal profile] malandragem 2012-08-26 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I try my best, but sometimes people make it difficult.

[She blinks, as if no one's ever asked her that before. Really, it's because no one has. She doesn't even think twice about it before bobbing her head, smiling a little.]

Oh yes- quite easily, though I could not at first.

[Hughes laughs softly.] Yes, I can imagine how it might have taken some time. I suppose it means you're fairly capable of hand-to-hand combat, then.

[At least, from her earlier description, it did not seem like she acquired her ability of handling a shotgun from solely being a maid.]
malandragem: (That's something I'd like to see~)

[personal profile] malandragem 2012-09-03 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[She smiles a little wider and gives a noncommittal shrug.]

I would like to think I am good enough to protect myself and those around me, should the need arise.

[She doesn't think much of her own abilities, considering what some of the women she knows are capable of.]
comradery: (sup)

[personal profile] comradery 2012-09-04 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Hehe. Well, protecting yourself should certainly be a priority, so... If you can manage that, I'm sure you're doing well enough. Being able to handle yourself in battle is an asset here, after all.
malandragem: (Well logistically speaking...)

[personal profile] malandragem 2012-09-05 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Yes- I have never been to a place where such a thing was considered such a valuable asset.

I don't think most would have, either. Even for me, the only place where that was really relevant was when I fought in the war, but obviously, it'd be important if you choose to get involved in war, y'know? Though, I suppose the difference here is that we weren't exactly given the choice.
malandragem: (That's something I'd like to see~)

[personal profile] malandragem 2012-09-13 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Well- no one here is really forced to fight- it is simply logical to do so, so that we may return to where we came from more quickly.
comradery: (guess what)

[personal profile] comradery 2012-10-01 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
True enough. There is also the danger of if witches attack Death City though. After all, despite Death City being the central hub for Shibusen, there was never a guarantee that the city itself would always remain safe, right?
malandragem: (Well logistically speaking...)

[personal profile] malandragem 2012-10-11 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
No, I suppose there is not. In which case, having people who can protect it appear here is likely also in the city's best interest.

That's an interesting point you raise. [Hughes rubs his chin.] I mean, I've met people who aren't even interested in fighting or helping and some them aren't even really capable of it, so it really makes me wonder what BREW's criteria is for bringing people here.
malandragem: (That's something I'd like to see~)

[personal profile] malandragem 2012-10-17 11:27 am (UTC)(link)
Well, wars do not run merely on the merits of its soldiers. They need people who can do things other than fight as well- like keeping up morale.
comradery: (come again?)

[personal profile] comradery 2012-10-22 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
That's true. I suppose there has to be people who care for the wounded as well. But even if BREW searches generally, aren't there chances it can choose people who have those qualities but refuse to do anything with them? It seems pointless if it chooses to pull someone like that here. [The only reason why Hughes raises this is because the people he had in mind fit into that category.]
malandragem: (Well logistically speaking...)

[personal profile] malandragem 2012-11-01 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[She nods, her expression a little wry.]

It certainly does- though that does not seem to stop it from happening regardless. I am not sure what BREW's requirements are, but it does not seem to make much in the way of sense to most.
