Description: Every morning in the city, Morning Training takes place to prepare the guests of the city for the war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on February 25th.

[Hughes chuckles faintly.]

You've got that right. Halfa' the time, I expect to get waken up in the middle of the night by a phone call telling me that there's been another Scar incident, and that I need to get over there immediately. [He shrugs.] I'd be lying if I said having all this extra free time didn't feel weird.

[Ed rubs the back of his neck, frowning a little.]

I know I should be grateful that there's not as many battles to fight, but... [he trails off, not wanting to say the sad truth that he doesn't quite feel normal when he's not struggling.]

Anyway... I just want to help this war end quicker. I want to start doing more, so that's why I'm signing up for missions.

Heh. It's good of you to do that then. Taking initiative is admirable!

[Hughes avoids mentioning that he is not interested in taking part in the war himself at the moment.]

Can you use your alchemy here?

[Ugggh, a matter of misery for him, Hughes. It shows in his face and body language as he visibly sinks.]

No. It's been hell trying to do anything without it, you know.

[He pauses, then lifts a little.]

Although... My meister ability seems to be like alchemy. I can change my weapon's form.

[Aw, Edward. Hughes chuckles faintly because your reaction is kind of adorable. You know, like all of your other ones.]

Too used to having it, eh? Though I can't purely relate, I can imagine it might be like missing an arm or something. Er. Automail or otherwise.

Oh? How's that work? If I may ask.

[His eyebrow twitches a little at Hughes' arm comment, but coming from Hughes it doesn't set him off or even bother him much. Now if it had been Roy...]

It's just that... alchemy's always been part of me, I guess. But as long as I can do something...

From what I've found, the ability only works on weapons when I'm resonating with them. It's just like alchemy, their shape changes however I want it to--well, within reason. Equivalent exchange and all--I can't make a giant cannon out of a sword, as far as I can tell. [Which is unfortunate, he thinks.]

Mm... Yeah, I can get that. It'd definitely be unfamiliar.

Oh? So they still have to retain relative mass, huh? Hahaha! A giant cannon... You really like going all out, don't you? Why not form a gun instead?

[He makes a face, shaking his head.]

I don't like guns. They're... [Ed pauses, not sure how to explain his reasoning to Hughes. Hawkeye practically had to force him to keep one when she and Roy took off in the woods before he arrived here.] ...I just wouldn't want to have use one.

[Hughes makes a mental note not to tell Edward what his Weapon form is.]

Ah. Yeah, I understand, hehe. Don't worry, that's a pretty common reaction. I had to keep my issued handgun on me at all times back home, so I definitely understand. [Weapon safety was one of Hughes' top priorities when he was around Gracia and Elicia.] While I agree that they aren't entirely pleasant, they do have their uses. [Hughes shrugs halfheartedly. It was certainly handy for taking out an immediate threat. Even if it had been the other way around, Hughes could not deny how convenient it was for that homunculus to take him out with a single shot to the chest. Perhaps he had been greatly desensitized by the war.]

But anyhow. Have you used that ability on someone already?

Lieutenant Hawkeye told me they're a tool to protect lives, but... I just can't stop seeing them as something that snuffs life out. [He shrugs, forcing a smile.] They're just not my thing.

[He perks up a little, nodding.] Two weapons, actually. That guy Ling, who's from our world, and then this other Weapon. It takes a lot out of me, but it's worth it.

Ah. Yeah. It's fine. They're pretty dangerous anyway.

Ling, huh? Roy mentioned him but didn't really say much about him. Who is he exactly? I can see how it would come in handy though. In general, alchemy has a lot of uses.

Oh yeah... he went home too, but... he's from Xing. Actually, he's a prince there. But he came over to Amestris to look for immortality through alchemy. [He waves a hand.] It's kind of a long story, but he ended up on our side--or at least, we were working against the Homunculus together.

...Xing? Really? Wow, a prince, too. Well, that sucks. It would have been nice to hear about Xing from him.

The homunculus... I'm sure any help would be good against them, wouldn't it. I was attacked by two of them at separate times, but they really did a number on me. There was that one lady... I think it was Lust? In Roy's report at least. I actually hit her square in the head with one of my blades, but I guess she survived since she appeared again after my death. [Based on what Roy had written, at least.]

They're practically indestructible. They need to be killed many times, if that makes any sense. Like Lust--Roy actually finished her off, but I heard it took a lot of "killing" her.

[He shakes his head, glaring down a bit.]

I've fought a few of them... they're not easy to take on alone, I've never managed. We were actually fighting that fat one, Gluttony, right before I came here, Ling, Al, and I.

Hm. I see.

Ah, Gluttony. There were actually some mentions of him in some files in the Investigations Office, but there was nothing solid. He really stood out compared to the other homunculi though, I guess. The descriptions of the others were fairly vague in comparison, at least.

...hopefully, BREW isn't stupid enough to drag them here. [He sighs faintly.] Even if their powers get limited, I doubt they'd want to just settle down and play nice.

[toukakoukan]

[Hawkeye and he had had a conversation about roughly the same thing.]

I can't see why BREW would ever think they'd be a good addition to this place. But Roy said they've been here before so it's not out of the question.

[He sighes.] That's the last thing we need though, a Homunculus or Scar running around for us to keep up with.

I wouldn't discount it, even if it seems illogical. Technically speaking, we only have an idea of how BREW works...and that's it. We don't know how exactly BREW decides to do what it does.

[He nods and sighs.] On the topic of Scar, we already have one serial murderer going around. We don't need another. Though at least with Scar, we have an M.O. on the guy...

[toukakoukan]

[He lets out a soft chuckle, kind of hollowly.]

At least with Scar, he's only after alchemists. And Roy and I could handle him.

This other guy though... do they have any other information? [Because you're the police everywhere, Hughes!]

[He laughs softly and rolls his eyes.] Scar wouldn't be able to do alchemy here. I don't think it'd be a problem for even me to take him down.

Not a lot. There's a general idea of what exactly went down the last time, and that's really all I know. I don't know much about what happened before I arrived here. And, Ed? I'm not officially an investigator here, y'know, so you didn't hear any of that from me. [He clears his throat because he obviously has been digging around on his own without public knowledge.]

[toukakoukan]

True. [He grins a bit at Hughes.] But you're pretty formidable on your own.

[At this, he watches him before giving a slower nod.] Yeah, I got it. Well, hopefully they'll figure something out soon. There's enough people here with that kind of know-how.

Hahaha. But of course! Alchemy isn't something us normal guys like messing with though. Even if taking down Roy is easy as pie for me, it's only because I already know how he fights. I'd probably suck at fighting with any other alchemist if they could still use alchemy.

[Hughes nods slowly.] I have a feeling that this isn't something completely unfamiliar. At least to the culprit. [He pauses.] It's too methodical. Whoever is doing it knows exactly what they're doing. Almost unnaturally so for a place like Death City. If someone manages to figure things out, I'm hoping it's sooner rather than later.
