[When he reaches her level, she smiles]
You're improving. Do you want to climb higher or is this far enough?
no subject
Hell no! Let's hit the top!
no subject
Very well. Follow me... [And she headed up to the next branch]
no subject
You usually hit the trees since you got here, or was it just back home?
[He watched a bird make a hasty getaway when he reached its level, angrily twittering at the intrusion. Well screw you, bird.]
no subject
No. Just at home, but it's been some time.
[Ah, angry bird. Is there a nest nearby?]
no subject
[He didn't want to deal with the angry mom (dad?), either, so he decided to keep on climbing, giving that branch a wide berth as he heard a lecture in bird-language not too far away.]
Tch... we had nesting birds at the shop for a couple years in a row. They'd dive-bomb anybody that tried to come in. I gotta admit, they got balls.
no subject
[Fortunately, everyone around there seems to feed the stray cats too. She climbs up to the next branch and waits.]
no subject
[He went quiet for a moment as he caught up with her. This was gonna sound so dumb...]
I, uh... didn't. I mean, the babies are big enough to fly away in a month anyway, so I just kinda left bread n' stuff out for the parents. I figured maybe they wouldn't be so pissed off if they were fed, y'know?
no subject
[She nods. From getting to know Kanji, he didn't seem like the kind of person capable of chasing off a nested family of birds.]
Well, they wouldn't perceive you as a threat like that. I can't say the same for your customers.
no subject
[He blinked down at that nest.]
I think somewhere in those bird brains, they remembered me.
no subject
It's possible. For example, a crow has been known to recognize individual human faces and be capable of holding a grudge if you cross them.
no subject
[Hmm, the branches were getting a little thinner. She could probably go a lot higher than he could... he had a feeling he'd just break the branches near the top.]
[It was also rather eerily quiet, the murmurs of departing Guests a dull roar.]
no subject
[Hopefully, Kanji never considered pissing one off.]
[She stops at another branch, glancing up]
This is far enough without risking extensive bodily harm.
no subject
[When she stopped and looked up, Kanji paused, carefully pulling himself up on a nearby branch. Even the one he held on to overhead seemed flimsy, but not enough to break under his hand. Definitely high enough.]
[He looked out over the park.]
...Man... you can see everything from up here!
no subject
That's an exaggeration. There's still much of the city missing from this view, but it's a pleasant one.
[Naoto turned, looking in the distance. This would be a nice place to come and allow her mind to wander.]
no subject
[It was true, though. Other than the park and some of the city, there wasn't TOO much compared to his usual spot.]
[He looked down at the branch she sat on. He wondered if her palms were as covered with tree sap and bark dirt as his were. He didn't care, but... would she? He reached out, but hesitated for just a moment.]
...
[He set his jaw and went on ahead, took her hand and looked back at her.]
Thanks.
no subject
...!
[She turned her head quickly towards him when his hand took hers. Her hand was covered in some flakes, but besides that, it was still soft and unmarred]
Oh... you're welcome, Kanji-kun.
no subject
[Either the ground was absolutely fascinating or he was feeling a little unsure of how to proceed.]
no subject
[The young detective didn't know what to do either, but she lightly squeezed his hand. Was... that okay?]
no subject
[But then his fingers curled, squeezing back. Could they... just stay up here for the rest of the day?]
no subject
[If he wanted to stay longer, she had no objections. They didn't have to be present anywhere anytime soon.]
no subject
[He lets a leg swing idly as he leans a bit, an arm brushing against hers as he just looked out over the park.]
no subject
[Again, slight confusion at his arm against hers, but slowly... very slowly, she leans back against his arm. Is... this fine?]
no subject
[He didn't seem to flinch when she leaned back. In fact, the tensity in his arm relaxed, and his eyes lowered. Kanji found he couldn't focus much on the park anymore, even if he tried.]
