Description: Every morning in the city, Morning Training takes place to prepare the guests of the city for the war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on February 25th.

[Guns aren't Hanabi's forte, but she's been making an effort to learn how to use them. It's only sensible to know how to use whatever is available. She's developed her aim with shuriken and kunai well enough that her aim with a small gun isn't bad. Aion showed her how to aim and how to prepare for the recoil.

Kid's aim, on the other hand, is nothing short of amazing to her.]

You must have practiced quite a lot, then. I can hit a target, but I've only got good aim with shuriken and kunai.

I wasn't perfect when I first started, so it really does come with practice and training. Of course Liz and Patti help sometimes, too.

[Hanabi offers the sisters a slight smile, then moves so that she's behind Kid enough to be out of his way, but close enough that she can observe him.]

Aiming can be one of the most difficult things when it comes shooting, especially if you're not using something like a scope or laser to help aim. It also depends on the situation. Since these are stationary targets, it's easier for me to shoot perfectly centered. Moving targets are more difficult.

But for now, your stance will greatly affect how well you aim, as well as how you hold the gun. You want to find your center of balance and stand something like this.

[Hanabi copies the stance, adjusting for her own shorter stature. That makes sense. It's not that different from throwing projectiles, in that respect. The recoil from a gun and the way it must be aimed, however, are different.]

[She nods her assent. Hanabi is accustomed to having her stance adjusted by a teacher. When a technique is brand new, it's sometimes the quickest way to teach someone what the correct positioning is.]

If you raise your arms a little here, and place your foot more around here, this should help maintain your center of balance and give yourself more of a firm stance.

How does that feel? If you need to adjust, go ahead, but something close to that would be ideal.

Should I try shooting the target now?

Almost. Obviously you know how to aim, so the last thing I want to tell you is that you should time your shot with your breathing. Take a breath, and then fire as you exhale.

[he then takes a few steps back to stand a little behind her, giving her plenty of room.]

[Hanabi eyes the target critically before aiming for the middle. With a loud bang!, she fires the gun.

The bullet hits the target about two inches off from the bullseye to the left.

It's better than her last attempt at shooting, though she's unlikely to be completely happy with it until she can hit the target perfectly.]

Not bad. Did that feel any better than when you were practicing before?

A little. Aion showed me how before and I was okay...

[But she wants it to be perfect, dammit.]

I think I'd like to try a moving target in the range, if there's any available. I can hit them well enough with shuriken and kunai...but I'd like to be like Tenten and be able to use any weapon that's available to fight an enemy.

There are, and I can show you where.

However, while versatility is useful and gives you an advantage, you also run the risk of being less capable than one who focuses on only a few or even one skill.

Well, I'm focusing the most on martial arts and making my Soul Menace stronger. Black*Star-sensei has been helping me with it and sparring with me.

[That's right, Kid. She called Black*Star "sensei".]

My sister is a Weapon and her ability attacks with her soul wavelength too...so when we work together, it's pretty powerful.

[Just ask the practice dummy they completely destroyed.]

I just want to make sure I can attack from a distance if I need to, too.

[and to the moving target range they go! it's...really designed as a simple shooting gallery, except instead of cute things like ducks or targets, there are kishin looking targets and such. but hey. moving targets! that's all that matters.]

I'm sure you know how to deal with moving targets generally, so the only advice I'll give right now is that you need to be able to not withstand the recoil of the gun but also be able to follow through and immediately aim for the next target. This is where timing your shots with your breathing will be key.

[The fact that they're kishin targets makes it easier to shoot at them.

Hanabi listens to Kid's explanation quietly and nods. She's been taught to read body language and movements, both at the Academy and in more detail while training in her clan's fighting style. She may not have the superhuman vision the Byakugan grants anymore, but the training and observational skills are still present.]

Okay. So follow how the targets are moving and start aiming as soon as the bullet leaves the gun?

Yes. For this round, don't worry so much about trying to hit them perfectly. I just want to see how you handle the recoil and moving from one target to the next.

[At first, Hanabi has difficulty adapting to the recoil. It takes several shots - including two that she misses completely, before she starts actually getting what Kid was saying about timing the shots with her breathing and incorporating that into her shooting. The next two afterwards, she manages to hit the targets in non-lethal places.]

[he's watching her as she shoots, noticing her initial difficulty. but it seems like she was starting to get the hang of it, so when she finishes the set, he calls out to her.]

Don't forget to not jerk the trigger, so to speak. Even when firing quick, consecutive shots, you only need to apply so much pressure. Also, while your grip doesn't need to be too tight—that will only stiffen your hand and make you feel the recoil more. You want a firm grip so that you have control over the gun, but also loose enough so that the shock goes through your hand rather than against it.

[Hanabi shakes out her hands, one at a time. . It's still not comfortable, but she knows it's a good skill to know. Even if an ordinary bullet probably won't kill a Witch, it might injure her and impede her ability to use magic effectively.]

[This time, she gives herself more time to mull over what Kid has said. Each bullet fired hits a target this time - two barely grazing it, three hitting non-lethal places but firmly hitting the target, and one that manages to hit in a more lethal region.]
