It had been a little over a week since the sandstorm, and thus a little over a week since the last batch of newcomers. When the readings indicated that BREW was activating again so quickly, it was a bit of a scramble to get everything prepared. The last time it activated before then was early February, so this really was a small time frame. It had been some time since that happened.

But everyone dutifully prepared just in time for the first arrivals. It was also a relatively good day despite the past few rain showers. At least things were much calmer now.

[Liz has given up trying to find Patty for the moment. In any case, she needs to check on their Meister. Hopefully, she wouldn't find him in the middle of a nervous breakdown over Excalibur's "lending a hand".]

SORRY LIZ, he's still in the room trying to rid of that sword's horrid sense of interior decor and to set everything right again.]

[Liz enters the room and wrinkles her nose with disgust.]

Really? I know people call them "thrones", but an actual toilet?

[Well, at least he hasn't gotten to the part where he blames himself and decides he should die.]

[Well, at least he isn't saying it now. Before she got here is up for debate.]

[She puts on a smile as she crouches down next to him.]

No, it's not, Kid. It'll just take some time to clean up is all. Or, even better, we could do some remodeling in here. Make it as symmetrical as you want. How does that sound?

But it was already perfect! Do you have any idea how long it took me to get it cleaned up the first time!?

I know, I know...

[Kid, she knows how you are when it comes to making things perfect. It took you a month to pluck her eyebrows after all.]

[She reaches out to rub soothingly at the space between his shoulder blades. So far he hasn't fallen into the self-blame routine, so there's hope yet.]

It'll be all right. The senior volunteers know it's not always like that. The newer ones? Well, they've gone through the worst-case scenario so if they help out in the future, it'll be a breeze in comparison.

They already think this is a horrible situation—a situation that I brought down upon them!

The least I could do was make them feel welcomed, but this? This!??! I should have checked here sooner, I should have just taken this area—I don't even remember who was supposed to cover it!!!

[none of what he says makes much sense anymore, really.]

I'm the worst! Father is surely disappointed in me right now—!!!

[Good thing you're not looking up at the moment, Kid. Even though she continues rubbing that spot on your back, she's gritting her teeth and cursing herself for tripping the automatic reaction.]

No way, Kid. Your dad's probably very proud of you for all the hard work you've done. He wouldn't hold one day against you.

In any case, it wasn't your fault. BREW's dumping more people on our doorstep is always super-hectic. Things just got a little mixed up. Nobody died. Besides, the volunteers really stepped up to the plate to make up for Excalibur being Excalibur. Don't forget that they were once new like this group, but they're still willing to help you out.

[She's going to reach out with her other hand to gently try and pry his fingers off his scalp.]

The newbies will settle in all right, and within a month or two, they'll be stepping up to help you out, too.

[BLEARY EYED as he continues to just. go through his anguish.]

Y...you really think so...?

How you believe how I perform my job doesn't have anything to do with what that sword did to ruin....everything...

[Liz is pro at video games where you have to make small adjustments to keep your balance. SHE GETS SO MUCH PRACTICE IN REAL LIFE.]

Which is Excalibur being Excalibur. It's not like you have any control over him when he decides to be a pain.

Sometimes things get thrown randomly at you, and you have to handle the aftermath. You do a great job at that.

[She gives him an encouraging smile.]

Just stop blaming yourself over Excalibur mucking things up, okay?

To be honest, your guess is as good as mine at the moment. I was trying to find her to act as my backup if you didn't pull out of your funk. She's probably back at the Manor though.
