EVENT: The Great BREW Malfunction Pt 1 [OPEN]

Description: ...something strange is going on here.

At some point, something strange begins to happen. People start randomly disappearing. Sometimes they reappear immediately after and they may not even notice, but sometimes there's a noticeable lag between their disappearance and their reappearance.

Sometimes, they don't even reappear in the same place!

At least it doesn't seem to be dangerous. Unless you disappeared from your kitchen and reappeared at the other end of the city. In which case, you might want to start running.

Either everything sort of points at this being BREW related (after all, if it were Witches, there would be a lot more danger).

[Maybe Lily is still disoriented by what had happened yesterday but the witch seems more clumsy than usual today, stumbling over tree roots in the park or tripping over her own feet in the shop. If you happen to be nearby when this happens, you might hear a Texas accented voice yelling…]

[But if you turn in the direction of the yelling, there only seems to be a red leather-bound book there. Odd… And kind of suspicious. Do you open it?]

[ While he's in the shop, he can actually hear the yelling. And with Josuke's general compulsive helping reflexes (even aside from his Meister ability he hasn't quite realised yet) he's running over only a moment later, dropping the clothes he was carrying onto the floor for a moment. Lily is the priority here just in case something really happened--

.. But then he can't find her anywhere. What even.. he blinks, looking around and even ignoring the book for a moment. ]

[Thanks to BREW, Morgan was knocked out again after a split second back home. Which might not have been such a problem if it hadn’t also deposited her atop one of the giant candles protruding from Shibusen’s facade.]

[With a groan, she stirred from her precarious position and gravity took effect before her dazed brain processed that she was now falling. But her new Weapon instincts kicked in and her body shifted, glowing red and shrinking as it fell through the air.]

[Watch out, Nanami! A Club 41 Volcano Shot glass is flying towards your head!]

[Nanami having returned from losing her second duel with Utena (all two seconds of the return) was overcome by what she thought was random bout of depression although some of it subsided due to the change of her surroundings.

Wait, wasn't she just reading a book in the garden on her balcony, how did she end up under the Shibusen building? And had she just caught a glimpse of the dueling arena from home?]

[She was still trying to put two and two together when something small came hurdling from the sky knocking her in the head. And Nanami went down quite unceremoniously face first.]

Josuke isn't sure what just happened. It was only a moment for him, and he appeared right at the spot where he disappeared (on the streets of the city), so it hardly feels like anything happened. Except he feels a little nauseous, and somehow it's like he's got a flash, an image of Morioh stuck in his head..

Weird as hell.

He lets out a huge groan at the nauseous feeling it gave him though, and in the middle of his confusion he sits down at the side of the street for a moment, frowning to himself as he tries to think what just happened. A Stand attack? But then again, there's none of those here..

Speak up to the young troubled man at the side of the road?

Or if you happen to be something remotely cute, you might spot him walking nearby during the rest of the day or the next day. Especially if you quite obviously require some help.. ]

[Well, there is some distressed barking coming from nearby. She was all cozy, planning on napping in the clinic and then suddenly, she blinked back home and blinked back into Death City. Why would BREW drop her in a tree was anyone's guess, but that's where the large wolf was.]

[Another day, she wouldn't mind jumping from the tree, but BREW doesn't let her fall that far without injuring herself. She barked again, but doesn't move since she was sure she heard the branch crack just a second ago.]

Lily and Lezard | Lily’s apartment | July 14, late morning | Closed

[Lily had been about to set out for Shibusen, to climb all those cotton-pickin’ stairs and meet her partner for a mission. Lezard didn’t want to pass up the opportunity to see BREW but she had little interest in that dang contraption so she’d agreed to meet him afterwards.]

[But then something strange happened. For an instant, it was almost as if she were back in that cab, going home from the Art Deco Ball, rather than in her kitchen. And she felt dizzy and unsteady on her feet. Then, the pinch of the reproduction heels registered and she looked down to find she was wearing her flapper dress from the ball again.]

What in the Sam Hill?! How did I—?

[The witch closed her eyes and shook her head, trying to clear her mind. Was she just hallucinating? Surely, she didn’t get sent back home again. But nothing happened this time!]

BREW was a fascinating object. Something so small yet so powerful, they'd say, but Lezard had seen his fair share of immensely-great artifacts one could carry in the palms of their hands.

Yet there he was, staring at a box full of odd holes as he was tempted to seize it, study it in private. Were there keys or tools that enter the holes? Does it open? And if so, what was inside? The authorities swarming about, however, reminded him that he could only be so lucky as to perform tests on it or so much as take it. Lezard was no fool--

His vision was flooded then, the earth shifting beneath his feet. For just a moment, he stood where he swore was the top of his tower, and ahead of him was Loki's path of destruction, augmented by the Dragon Orb. His eyes widened as he pondered if BREW had dismissed him without warning, and here he was planted right back at the moment of--

...Shibusen. Lezard blinked, looked around, and frowned. Inwardly, he sighed his relief and adjusted his glasses. Perhaps he was exhausted and had been seeing things, but he ought investigate this on his own time later. For now, he waited for someone- he looked at a clock on the wall- who was now late.

He needed to visit the apartment again, he thought with a small grin. But the moment the thought entered his mind, he felt something tug behind his navel, and the world around him blurred. The Death Room melted, turned into what he quickly recognized as the interior of Lily's apartment. How in the...?

A grin spread quickly over his face. If he didn't know any better, he'd just performed a teleportation spell of some sort. Did that brief flash of memory have to do with it...?

[Psii falls headlong into blackness, every muscle tense, every nerve ending twanging painfully, as if in aftershock from lethal voltage.

But that's not what killed... Wait. Dead?

Is almost too much to hope for, after so many sweeps.

Something huge seems to reverberate, so big it's past sound, more like tremors that shook whole universe, that are still shaking it.

Yes, definitely dead. Psii thinks he laughs. Hasn't been able to move arms in at least eight hundred sweeps, but now, as if they're freed by his becoming aware of them, they flop to his sides, filled with what feels like buzzing under the skin. Hardware is waking up again. He's not sure he likes it.

There seems to be a light, faint but growing. Psii's just starting to feel another hope that's been all but extinguished--hope of seeing family again--when the light flares blindingly, and he's back in Death City, swaying on feet on sidewalk, feeling almost drunk.]

[ With Psii standing in the way like that all of a sudden, not walking, it's only inevitable that someone bumps into him sooner or later, right? Except this time it seems to happen sooner rather than later, since Masako ends up walking right into him as he sways there, letting out a choked sound of surprise since apparently she really didn't see him standing there. ]

W.. what do you think you're doing?!

[Mello's on his way to get a mocha when a space of time simply... vanishes. One moment, he's just left his flat, and the next, he's outside Shibusen with no memory of the intervening minutes.

Something feels off. He can't pin down the source of the deep sense of wrongness right away; he just feels strangely cold, a bone-deep chill that the desert air does nothing to ease.

It takes him longer than it should to figure out that what he's feeling is absence.

His resonance with Near has been a background hum of warmth since the first time they tried working together; it's been staticky and difficult at times, but it's never stopped before.

There has to be an explanation other than the one he fears, Mello tells himself, and starts hurrying back towards Tartarus Terraces. Near doesn't reply to a message, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything; he could be away from his mirror, or holed up in the surveillance room. From the look of other people on the street, there's more than one fucked-up thing happening today.

Near's not in the flat, and another message goes unanswered. That's all right, Mello thinks, he's narrowing down the possibilities. He goes back out and heads for his last hope, the Kuzunoha Detective Agency, walking in a way that suggests he's holding himself back from breaking into a run.]

*Despite how odd today has been, Alucard managed to get back to the Agency in time to maintain his guard post.* Ah, buna, Mello. *At his expression, Alucard adds* Are you all right?

Karkat Vantas | The Red Light District | July 14th, early evening | Open

<sub>[Karkat only has a second or two to have a mental freakout about the fact that the meteor is going to crash and they are all going to die and why didn't he think about this, before he finds himself in Death City again. Or what he hopes is Death City. He's never been in this building before, he doesn't think. And a second or two later, he finds out why.

Oh god, how the fuck did he end up in the strip club? He shouldn't even be allowed in here! Carefully averting his eyes, he heads towards the door. Thank god it's not that late in the evening, so there are few customers to witness his misfortune. He just has to hope when he steps outside he won't see anyone he knows.]</sub>

[What was that? It was like the world blinked, or something. Well, everything seems to be back to normal and Hiro is back in front of Shibusen, so perhaps it was just his imagination?

He starts heading towards home for now, till he feels... something strange. Kind of like an itch on his left hand, but different. When he checks his hand, he nearly goes pale. There is a phone screen right in the middle of his palm, displaying the main menu interface for the Demon Summoning App. He's not sure what to be more alarmed by: the presence of the Demon Summoning App or just the general fact that there is now a screen on his hand. He chooses the latter, and calls out to anyone who will listen.]

[Eve was actually stopping by to check out missions before returning to Metokkori R to enjoy the rest of her lunch break.

She blinked at being called out to then moves closer to see, curious.]

[One second, she could've sworn she had been in her room. Still, reappearing in her patrol quarter wasn't what bothered her the most. The lust for destruction she had been containing was gone, replaced instead by annoyance. Having better control over herself, the skull and cross eye glanced left, then right. Alright, the last time she had been here was several weeks ago and she had been in her room, but it seemed to be the same. Hilarious...]

[Walking past a window, she had to pause and look over. Her once white uniform had turned black and red stained the skirt's hem. Her skin was chalky blue and her hair, once blue, had gone white. Peeling off her gloves, she slipped on a new pair so at least they appeared clean. Would she explain what's going on? Maybe after someone told her what made her return home in the first place. And if that bitch Aeon was in on it, there would be hell...]

[Laying on the ground, out in the open like someone dropped it from their wallet was a crimson colored credit card with one thing written across it in bold black print:

...Akiha was tired of this. She couldn't control this whole transformation thing and ended up in weapon form at the most inopportune times. And to make it worse, she had a hard time transforming back thanks to her temper flaring each and every time she accidentally ended up as this... this... card.

Shopping district on the 15th

[Lily was on her way to open Yesterday's Magic for the day when she turned a corner and noticed a small rectangle of red plastic on the sidewalk.]

Huh. Did someone lose this? Looks like a credit card...

[The shopkeeper didn't think it too unusual. This was the shopping district after all and it might have slipped when its owner meant to return it to a pocket after a purchase. She picked up the card and read the name on it.]

[Tohno. Why did that sound—Oh. That was Kanji's friend, wasn't it? The one who had brought her skirt in to the shop to be mended that one time and whose clothes gave off a vaguely demonic vibe. She supposed she'd ask Kanji to give her a call later and let her know it had been found...]

Chika Daimon | Shibusen's main stairs | July 14th

[ Finding yourself at the top of Shibusen's main staircase when you were at the arcade doing your job the last minute was definitely not normal.

You know what else wasn't normal? Falling down the Shibusen stairs because your balance was off because you suddenly appeared at the top of the stairs.

Too bad for Chika that was exactly what was happening now, and she couldn't do anything but let out a scream as she plummeted down them. Was... what the hell happened was she going to die why was this-

Something strange happened on the way down though, and Chika felt her whole body changed and get a hell of a lot smaller as she clanged onto the ground down the stairs until she stopped moving. ]

DAMN IT BREW! WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU NOW!?

[ So... yeah. Chika was a weapon now. In fact, she was not just any weapon, but she was a Digivice like her brother was when he used to be here, only orange and pink instead of whatever color he was (and the color in the picture).

And she was at the bottom of the Shibusen stairs. And... had no idea how to get back to normal. ]

[sugata didn't know what was more alarming. the fact that he was actually invisible, or the fact that he didn't know how to turn this off. he was hoping that this would have ended a few hours ago, but alas it didn't. and welp, here he is now! the one million dollar question though, is why in the hell is he wandering around in the streets in this new condition of his! i'll tell you why. he's tired of becoming someone's new seat cushion!! so, yes, he probably didn't think this out thoroughly, but whatever. he's doing his best to dodge everyone, but he can only do so much!]

[so thankfully when shibusen did the mighty switcheroo he didn't really move too far! he actually only ended up on the other side of the couch. not really knowing what was up with that, he went about his business and continued watching the television program he was watching before he left. at a commercial break he got up to the bathroom, took care of his business, and came back a few minutes later. somehow during that whole process he somehow subconsciously turned on his new ability. oops.]

{So really, Yako had been minding her own business, innocently making her way over to a nice little cafe for a mid-morning snack. And then, out of nowhere, she found her way mysteriously impeded by an unseen force. A hard, warm, unseen force.}

Hamel reappeared in the middle of Keroro's shop with a drumstick that was big enough to have belonged to an ostrich clenched between his teeth and a foot up against a shelf, his hands clamped around a jug of mead as though he'd been fighting someone for it. The change in sound seemed to sink in slowly and he blinked and looked around, cutting off his swearing (which was unintelligible while eating a leg of ostrich) and his shoulders slumped a little. He almost knocked over the shelf but apparently Keroro built them with decent stuff. Instead Hamel plopped down in the middle of the floor and grabbed the bone with his free hand, tore off a chunk of meat and swallowed before sighing. "Fuck. I thought I'd gone back."

Eve was helping restock some shelves when Hamel just randomly appeared to her left. She blinked, but otherwise had no other reaction. This had happened to her and Keroro just earlier so she couldn't say she was too surprise even if she's still not sure what was going on.

She nodded at Hamel.

"Welcome back. If you want to eat, please go to the backroom."

A: Outside the Hotsprings and en route to Casulaty Communal

Hyoubu hasn't been having a good day. First he's accosted by some stupid, pantless, long-nosed monster. Then he falls into the hot springs, clothes and everything.

Damn it.

He stood up and scowled. He was...pretty sure he had been at home a moment ago so what gives?

Eventually, he stomps out of the place wearing a yukata that he had gotten from the people in charge of the hot springs. His sopping wet clothes were balled up in one hand and dripping everywhere.

Anyone who is unfortunate enough to bump into him, will be scowled at.]

B: Casualty Communal Lobby

[He finally makes it back to Casulaty Communal, he stops to go through his pockets. Where was his damn key? Shouldn't it be here? After a moment he just...gave up with a growl.]

Ah, forget it!

[Thinking he'll just ask the front desk, he turned around and slipped on the puddle his wet clothes left behind and fell backwards. He had only a split second to try to change the way he was falling so he didn't crack his head open or sprain anything before something strange happened.

Somehow, when he landed on the ground beside a wet pile of clothes, he feel with a metallic clatter and where Hyoubu should have been was...a spoon?]

[Once Minako makes it back to the Casualty Communal herself, it's hard not to hear an exclamation like that. When she tries to figure out where the voice came from though, well, that's a little harder. The front desk seems perfectly normal, but she doesn't really see anyone else around. Still, after having had a pretty weird experience that day, she figures it wouldn't hurt to try calling out.]

... hello? Anyone here? [Please respond again voice SHE DOESN'T WANT TO LOOK CRAZY DOING THIS.]

[To Fujino, today didn't seem anything too special, aside from that weird encounter with Excalibur. After having viewed BREW, she simply went to get some groceries and spend some time relaxing at home.

Yet, relaxing never did seem to be a thing she could ever do in Death City. Her bags fall to the ground and in an instant, she's suddenly on the roof of one of the niche stores around here.]

[She looks around in complete confusion; the heck even happened?! Well, once she spots her groceries, it'll be alright-]

[ what... what the heck happened? she sure as heck hadn't been in this... rather seedy excuse for a part of town before. or ever, really. but there's the wafting smell of noodles, and trucy's stomach growls. hadn't she just eaten? why was she so hungry? oh gosh, she's starving. like, really, really starving like she's just sprinted a marathon or something.

... well, at least whatever that was had been nice enough to put her next to her favourite type of food. ]

[ her belly is full and her mouth burns with the spice of good soup, trucy's actually pretty happy and already forgetting the event that had her wind up in the creepy district with good noodles. sigh, she'd have to brave the place another time and go back. those were delicious!

oh, right. she has no idea where to go from here. maybe she should just wander about until she finds her way.

... or maybe she'll trip over her own two feet. ]

Hamel had discovered the red light district and taken to it with what one might describe as 'gusto' about a week in to his stay in Nevada. He hadn't had the MONEY to actually buy anything there, mind you, but he'd found it and salivated for a while.

But he had cash now. Even if a good portion was spent on making ridiculous costumes, currently he was boozed up and feeling pretty good. Which made up entirely for not being back home in his own world again. And hey check it out, a comedy show. "Cheers!" He announced, raising his wooden mug as she tripped and nearly took him out. And she had taste in clothes too, she had a cape. Only great people wore capes.

His hand jerked out much faster than it ought to when he was drunk and snatched for her wrist to yank her back upright. Though he'd considered letting her face plant. Because come on. Comedy gold. He blamed the booze. His body was moving faster than his demented mind.

L Lawliet | July 15 | The Church | Early Morning, OPEN

[L has spent the last several days making various phone calls to ocular specialists and hovering over a hired maid's shoulder as she cleans L and Light's condo. Both processes feel like the beginning of a new start, which is extremely important to the blinded detective; if he's going to keep living in Death City, some things have to change, including the strange paralysis that's gripped him since B's departure.

The condo is clean, he is on a list for new corneas, and he sleeps through the night for the first time in days. It doesn't occur to him for a moment that BREW would choose now to send him back, and it happens so quickly that nothing changes.

He is drenched to the bone with rainwater, he still knows what's coming, and he still hears bells. He doesn't fully realize what's happened, or even that he is home... only that he wakes up someplace he should not be.

As he doesn't exactly sleep in the spatial map headset Tony Stark made for him, he has to rely on the acoustics to place where he's ended up. It sounds like the church... and he's thoroughly annoyed, because more bells are ringing, and now he has to decide whether to send a message to Light or Bakura to come and fetch him.

He shuffles outside into the relatively cooler morning, crouching against the side of the religious building with his cell phone, trying to banish the ringing from his aching head.]

[After all the craziness of the day before, Takuto is just going to make the best of things. He's heading to morning training after a long walk to get some advice on his new form, and even though everything in Death City seems a little topsy-turvy, he's still not expecting to see Ryuzaki at church, soaking wet, poking at his communicator. And yet, this is Ryuzaki, so he really shouldn't be surprised, and if Ryuzaki is doing something strange, then things in Death City are actually pretty normal.]

Kanji and Naoto | July 14th | Tartarus Terrance | Closed

Tonight's mission to Chile was imperative. They were short only five souls and now wasn't the time to be feeling bad. Standing over the satchel for tonight, Naoto was making arrangements to have someone watch Iza and Watson. Unfortunately, the usual option was out; she wondered when Raidou would be back.

"Yes... yes, thank you. It will just be their dinner really. We should be back in time for their breakfast. Again, thank you."

She hung up and set the communicator down. Taking a moment to catch her breath, she turned turn the pack she was preparing for Ziodyne. Just a few things, mainly something for them to eat and a kit in case they had another incident like the circus. Reaching out to grab the gauze, things seemed to flash for a second.

Home, school, a fight... more Persona users. Wait, those had been Minato's friends.

As quick as everything happened, she was back in the room. Shaking her head, she pulled her hand back and rubbed her head. That was certainly strange... Where was she? Ah, yes, packing for the mission. Reaching out again, she finally noticed that she was wearing cat gloves. "... Eh?"

For Kanji, it was a matter of outward protection. While Naoto handled packing the dinners he'd made and taking care of the critters' sitters for the evening, he was wondering how many layers he could wear that could hold up to kishin egg teeth, keeping him guarded in the thick of battle. He wanted to keep himself and his partner out of trouble, as close to 100% as possible for their Witch hunt.

But as he reached for his older leather coat, something he didn't mind seeing teeth marks in without feeling TOO sore about the damage, his vision flashed and Kanji moved at a start.

That was too strange. That was sudden and he felt dizzy and weird. Something was happening to the city again... maybe...!

"Naoto! ...You just feel that!?" He rounded the corner in the apartment, dressed for all the world like he was about to cheer on his home team, or perhaps cheer the world into driving off a meteor crashing into the planet.

But he hadn't noticed that yet. As he stopped dead, he noticed... something else.

"C-cat..."

*All right, what exactly was going on? One minute Auron was trying to sludge through some paperwork at the Watch and in another, he's at the foot of the steps of Shibusen.*

[In what is quicker than a blink of an eye, Yako's conversation and lunch partner vanishes as if he hadn't even been there in the first place. In the time it would take an average person (that wasn't Yako) to finish the thought Where could he have gone to?, the kitchen is silent before the deafening noise of clattering iron chain against the kitchen's tile floor fills the room. A moment passes, and a sudden THUNK comes from under the table, causing the many dishes upon it to bounce and rattle. Fragments of vulgar Russian are muttered as a Sasha rises from under the table, gloved hand buried in the hair on top of his head.

Something has changed, and it's not just a long sleeved jacket that Yako strictly forbade him from wearing--there are bandages around his neck just peeking out from under his wide collar. He looks over the table, then at Yako, with an expression of mild confusion before the recognition settles in.]

...Yako?

{Yako has a faint inkling of what might have happened even before she bends down. It had seemed silly when it happened to her, just a quick blip, little more than wishful thinking—but the changes in Sasha are far more concrete. People don't just magically acquire jackets, or wounds in any state of healing.

She's up and moving around the table almost instantly, however, her eyes alight with worry.}

[Near isn't caught in the middle of anything particularly important. He's about to review some Agency files on his laptop when his surroundings change completely and he's brought back to his world, to his headquarters, surrounded by card towers and an environment that is as tightly controlled as it is sterile--

I'm terribly sorry, sir, but we haven't been able to retrieve those documents and--

Have you forgotten what 'as soon as possible' stands for? I don't care how many people you have to blackmail or bribe; I want those files in my hands in the next hour. I will not tolerate your failure a second time.

--but then he's back in Death City, and he's definitely not in the last place he remembers being at. He isn't as vertical as he remembers being, either, and the soft grass tickling his cheek is a good indicator that BREW decided to just dump him on the ground; he squints at his surroundings only to find a tree right next to him, which tells him that the little demon tool decided to bring him back to the park instead of somewhere more comfortable like his and Mello's apartment and--

Mello. Despite his confusion and how fuzzy his mind feels, he's certain of one thing: if BREW messed with him, then it probably messed with his Meister as well, and he doesn't even know what day it is, doesn't know how long it's been since he was sent back to their world, but he knows that there's a chance Mello will no longer be here...

Near gets back to his feet as fast as is humanly possible, using the tree to support himself, but a sudden, strong wave of nausea brings him to his knees, and he groans quietly as he sits down, rubbing at his eyes as if that would dispel the dizziness and the sudden headache.

It doesn't even occur to him that he should have turned into his Weapon form before hitting the ground.]

[Amaterasu went on a mission today. It was weird being the Weapon instead of the Meister, but things worked out overall. It was fun honestly and being able to use her techniques again. It was all a matter of getting her Meister to understand the symbols that needed to be drawn.]

[Being a Weapon for a majority of the day meant she wanted to get out for a while now and breath. That's what brought her to the park: space. She took her time to flop around in the grass and smell everything again...]

[That smell. She raised her head and sniffed again, ears rotating this way and that. Finally, they came forward as she identified the smell. Mello had asked her to sniff it out the day before. Paws stepping forward, she followed the scent alone, letting it carry her further off the path she had been taking and heading towards a tree. Many scents upon it, but one in particular was now and fresh.]

[Why wouldn't it be? The source was at the base. Slowly, she approached and sniffed Near. She nudged his cheek and his rubbing hands, woofing lightly.]

[If you happen to be passing by the area, a voice seemingly out of nowhere will have just spoken. There isn't really anyone else around in the area, and the only other voices are muffled and coming from inside the maid cafe. Whoever just spoke definitely wasn't inside there to boot. Just where could it have come from then?!]

Oh, hey! Sorry, but would you mind helping me out for a sec? I think I'm gonna be in trouble at this rate... [THERE'S THAT VOICE AGAIN just. Coming from right by your feet okay then.

[ Josuke was actually going to pick up Minako after work today to hang out or go get some food together or something.. (Totally not to mooch off her or anything, what are you talking about, wow.)

But then he can't find her. Thankfully before going inside and suffering a heart attack from finding out just where she works, he hears the voice instead. ]

.. Huh.. Minako, that you? [ Not that he knows it's coming from the gun, he's just thinking she's somewhere around here.. ]

[It happens too quickly to process it properly. One moment, he'd been sitting at the kitchen table looking over the weather forecast for the next few days. The next, he's found himself sitting in exactly the same position at a corner both in a low-lit club that reeks of clove cigarettes, cheap perfume, and dirty secrets.

As he looks up, dazed, he unintentionally catches the eye of one of the employees who offers him a warm smile and approaches the booth.]

Anyone sitting here, handsome? [she asks, moving to sidle into the booth beside him at precisely the same minute he rises from his seat.

He blinks several times, which does nothing to change his surroundings back to familiarity. Without so much as a second look at the velvet-wearing hostess who seems offput enough by his reaction to not pursue him further, Light makes his way to the nearest exit and steps back into the open air of Death City's streets.

Mask. Wasn't his face, he was wearing a mask. his mind was prattling at him incessantly, as if freshly-stung by something it found outrageous. Something Light found himself just beyond recalling.

A hand presses itself to his brow, wiping away a prickling of clammy sweat as he forces himself to draw a deep breath and let it out slowly...]
