Time: 6am to 9am
Description: Training takes place every morning in the park to prepare the guests of the city for the ongoing war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on May 18th.

I am above such a ruse, nor would I make such remarks toward your intelligence.

[A pause.]

Have such things been directed your way here?

[She shook her head.] It's just an expression they used to say back in Texas.

[Lily had been walking around, continuing to make notes on what areas of the park needed work as they talked. But now she stopped, frowning up at a tree. Was that a branch cracked halfway? She'd better call the maintenance folks and have them come remove it before it broke all the way and fell on someone.]

[lezard_valeth]

[Damn. Lezard the Ghoul would go back on the shelf for another way. He was enjoying pranks, very much so.]

...Box of hammers...

[A shrug.] I don't know where it came from. Some folks would also say 'dumb as a box of rocks.' I guess since they're inanimate.

[And she made a note of the damaged tree, debating whether to go report it now or finish going through the rest of the park first. The limb didn't seem to be in immediate danger of breaking the rest of the way but still...]

[A small thrum, and a spark. It's a feather-light brush against the soul before a flame drop sprung to life, hovering warm in the air.]

Your aim's gotten a lot better, my Lady. Shall we make a wager...?

[Lily frowned at the brush against her soul and the flame's appearance. She furtively glanced around to see if anyone was nearby and then addressed the book in a loud whisper.]

Lezard, what do you think you're doing? What if someone sees?

[She was reminded of Oscar being difficult and not wanting to stay in his potbellied pig form. Plus, she'd rather not have to explain accidentally setting a tree on fire...]

Then we simply work quickly. Remain out of harm's way and burn the remaining fibers. You'll save yourself considerable work.

Besides... the spell is my soul's energy! I've begun to learn to conjure and extinguish. I will consider it today's practice and grant you the day's peace, since you seem so willing to be rid of me.

And we're supposed to be partners. [Can you feel that pout? Can you? He's pouting.]

[Yes, even with the book closed, she managed to sense that pout through their link. Her sigh in response had a put upon quality to it.]

If you wanted to practice that badly, I'd almost prefer a mission. [At least, it would mean extra money and less chance of witnesses.]

[With a grumble, she looked around again to make sure there was no one around. Then took several steps back from the tree and focused on the cracked branch, directing the flame its way.]

[He had to bite his lip a little to stifle the laugh. He'd prodded her enough as it was, and it was time to put his ability to test.]

You know I am more than willing to be your Weapon for whatever missions abound.

[He prepared, and braced for the spell direct. Her aim struck true and then it was his turn to step in. The fibers would burn, the wound in the tree would cauterize and keep out any wood-feeding insects and parasites... it was a matter of extinguishing the flame once the fibers gave way. The flame was in his hands, a piece of his soul, a deep blue. He cupped it in both palms and focused, then worked the seize it the moment the branch fell free from its spot, landing in the grass and not on some unsuspecting passerby.

His hands closed over the flame and slowly drew inward, cutting off the oxygen. Warmth replaced by cold, and the flames burning on the branch died down to a plume of smoke, the smell of a campfire.]

Hmmm... it takes a moment to take hold of it. I shall work on a quicker response. You have my thanks.

If you ask me, you seem overly fond of setting things on fire. [She added a bit grudgingly...] I guess they help with the bills though.

[Lily had to admit Lezard's work had been pretty precise but the severed branch fell to the ground and she frowned at it. Maybe, she shouldn't have agreed so quickly... It was several inches thick and as tall as her.] Dag nab it. How am I going to clear this thing away now?

It was your soul, not mine, that called to my flame magic.

[In response to her query, he realized that magic wouldn't work here. The book began to shine, and it shifted a few feet away to reveal the man. ...With Lily's notepad neatly stacked atop his head. He paused to hand it back to her before taking a closer examination of the branch.]

Where would you like it?

[There was the glow and then Lily blinked down at her empty hand. Where did her notepad— Oh.]

If you wanted a hat, I reckon there are better options at the shop. [She couldn't help being a tad amused.]

For now, I guess it could be moved behind the supply shed. [...which was halfway across the park. Well, Lezard, do you regret being so eager to practice?]

I'll ask the city maintenance people to chip it for mulch the next time they're here pruning trees.

[A quickly-formed smirk of amusement.] Of course; whatever was I thinking?

[Oh, but that was gone when she suggested the shed. That was indeed halfway across the park and he was indeed regretting his decision. But without Bellion or some other minion to do his dirty work, decided that he ought call her bluff.]

Then to the supply shed I go! [A bow.]

I bid you good day.

[Lily, you're to be given a treat in the form of schadenfreude; Lezard strained for a little while with the branch, seizing hold and getting a feel for its weight before - with a grunt- he slowly started dragging the massive thing away.]

[Lily had actually been serious about leaving the branch near the supply shed but as amusing as it was to see that annoying sorcerer struggle with the burden, it didn't look as if this was going to to work.]

Are you sure about that? I reckon you're going to take an hour at this rate and then you'll probably come bother me again when you strain something.

[lezard_valeth]

Well surely we cannot leave the unsightly thing here, can we?

[He was all ready out of breath.]

[vintage_magic]

No. But if you move it someplace where folks won't trip over it, maybe I can go get the wheelbarrow. [Moving such a large branch with it would still be awkward but this obviously wasn't working...]

[lezard_valeth]

Hm... that would be considerably easier, wouldn't it?

[So onward he moved to get that thing next to the tree again.]

I imagine so. [A sigh since this was turning out to be more trouble than if she'd just called in the city maintenance people.]

Wait here. [Lily glanced at him over her shoulder as she walked off, hoping he wouldn't take the opportunity to do a vanishing act. She doubted she could get that branch into the wheelbarrow on her own! She'll be back in about fifteen minutes with the wheelbarrow...]

[lezard_valeth]

Of course. [She left, and he saw to pulling it next to the nearby tree. Those fifteen minutes would be spent fanning himself a little to cool down- this branch, he thinks, wasn't meant for human hands to address.]

[vintage_magic]

[Hopefully, Lezard had enough of a rest by the time Lily returned pushing an empty red wheelbarrow. Because that branch wasn't going to jump into the wheelbarrow on it's own! Plus it's probably about twice as long as the wheelbarrow.]

I remain at your request.

[He pushed himself to his feet, dusted off.]

And this appears to be a two-person job nonetheless. Shall we?

[If only he would be so cooperative about other things!]

But you seemed so eager to move it on your own earlier...

[She parked the wheelbarrow next to the tree and turned to the branch.]

After nearly giving myself a hernia, I've changed my tune.

[His sleeve swept across his forehead, and he went to one end of the branch.]

A heft on three, right in the wheelbarrow, yes?
