Characters: Yami Bakura and Nanami & and whoever would like to visit them.
Location: Hospital
Rating: PG-13
Time: May 21st – May 26th
Description: Yami Bakura and Nanami share a hospital room after their disastrous mission in Venezuela. Yami Bakura will be unconscious until May 25th, but Nanami will behere all week folks awake for the most part.
The room was silent with the exception of the machines beeping to remind visitors that the two bodies in the room were still warm. Nanami spent her time awake staring at the ceiling or out the window and periodically glancing over at her dormant partner in the other hospital bed that occupied the room.
He was covered in various bandages with bruises peeking out from behind them. His hair was sticking out in a more ridiculous manner than usual due to the bandage wrapped around his head like some sweatband from the 80’s. She had been updated on his condition shortly after she regained consciousness and besides the things you could see he had also twisted an ankle and had been poisoned by one of the monsters they had tried to fight off. The antidote had been administered shortly after they had arrived at the hospital but he was still unconscious.
Nanami hadn’t managed to get off scot-free either. Aside from the usual cuts, scrapes and bruises she had some deep lacerations on the left side of her back that had been stitched up and she was still anemic.

The 21st, afternoon
It had, however, taken a while for Bakura to decide what to do about it.
Finally, after nearly a 15 minutes of indecision, he had headed up to the room where his double lay, hesitating again outside the door before timidly peering in.
It was a horrible, gut wrenching feeling, that sight. Not because that he could see himself in that situation, far from it. That it was so clearly the other Bakura...
A hand moved up to cover the spot where the scars from the Ring were. Even if he had been cast away...

After all, it wasn't as if his double could hear him... or would welcome him in even if he could....

Somewhere on the 22nd
He would not miss a chance to poke some fun in the direction of one of the few people here he could genuinely stand. As his own mission, and his first one no less, had been as successful as it could be, he figured he earned the right to chuckle a bit at this situation. After being pointed in the right direction, he entered the room and smirked.
"So I suppose you would call this a less than successful mission?"
D=
"Clair..." If anyone were to notice she was missing it would be her roommate. She was actually a little happy to see him even if the teasing wasn't particularly welcomed.

Curiosity always got the better of him.
"So what happened?"

'Ne.... can you hear me....?'

Muffled.
It was as if a thick mist had covered the place that drowned out any noise and signs of life from a place that had been dead for a long time but never silent.

24th, afternoon
As for Nanami... He stopped by her bedside, frowning, then placed a gift card on her bedside table, prepared to leave until she stirred, appearing to shift awake.

He made a casual, brief appearance in the late afternoon, stopping by to leave a medium-sized plush rook on Bakura's bedside table. Along with a sprig of forget-me-nots.
Awwwww.

Then he looked to the side and saw the plush and the flowers. His eyes narrowed a bit as he heaved a small sigh. Well, no need to guess who had felt the need to leave those.
...Panda-eyes really was bad at not getting to have the last words.

...and the spirit was likely going to be annoyed that he was even doing this to start with. But with how bad of a condition the other Bakura was in... this Bakura couldn't just stand there when there was something that he could do.
Something likely only he could do....
So he waited outside the hospital for Mello to arrive, fidgeting with his scar the entire time.

"You look terrible," he said by way of greeting, when he spotted Bakura waiting outside.

23rd, post 2nd healing session
In his mind's eye, he sank into the space that only seemed to exist inside their resonance, floating above the endless desert sands, soft glow illuminating the wispy form his sense of self projected into the unreal world.
'Bakura...? It's me...'

The message behind it was clear: there was no place for Ryou, the connections that had been established between him and the soul that was now encased by this body meant nothing.
When Ryou finally reached the depth of the thief's soul where things started to take on the form of pictures and shapes the antipathy that laid in the air was almost physical. The place itself didn't want him there and loathed him for his intruding. This reflected in the way it presented itself as well. The sky was a dark hopeless hue that announced either the dawn of a dark night or a nearing storm and the sand beneath him seemed grey and death.

25th, After L, before the last healing of YB/YB waking.
Since it was only fair to bring her something with how often he was in that room to see his double...

"O..oh, thank you," there was that odd moment where she could see some similarities between the two. She was surprised by the gesture since they didn't really know each other very well. None-the-less she was happy to receive the offering although she was a little unsure of whether he was giving some to her for later or if he meant for her to eat them as breakfast.

May 25th night
The language of flowers is, in fact, very complicated. Sometimes flowers had different meanings in different cultures then adding the fact that many had multiple meanings then multiplying that by the number of colors a particular flower was available in and you could get a very confused flower recipient, if they even paid attention to any of that.
For instance, red roses could mean love and desire but also courage, while dark pink meant you were thankful. If the lighting was bad you could accidentally convey the incorrect message. Nanami’s own yellow rose could mean anything from infidelity and jealousy to joy and friendship. Even through formal training, Nanami couldn’t remember all the nuances but she had it narrowed down to six types that were fairly straight forward. Yarrow for healing, Thrift for sympathy. After the other night however, White Heather was a strong frontrunner for “protection from danger”. Then there was the Purple Hyacinth to say she was sorry, or the Coreopsis which really was kind of a copout for good cheer. Lastly the Cyclamen which really wasn’t appropriate but after a successfully completed mission by sheer luck and then the tanking their second mission it might be a good idea to shut down this partnership for at least a little while.
In the end, Nanami wound up throwing out the western meanings entirely instead opting for a more simplistic ikebana arrangement which was based on another idea entirely. Stick to what you know best, right? He might appreciate something a little less… flowery. She set the arrangement and a book she brought with her down next to the stem of forget-me-nots and a plush doll. So that really hadn’t been a hallucination after all…
Nanami was used to being out late at night due to her job here in Death City and she had had plenty of rest recently so instead of lying on the other bed, she took a seat next to Bakura’s hospital bed being careful to not twist her body lest she pop a stitch, and for a while she sat in silence switching between watching over him and staring out the window. Luckily the moon wasn’t entirely visible from where she was sitting; she really missed having a normal moon.
“You know…” she started in a soft voice, “I kind of lied to you the other day—well more like I withheld some information, it’s probably not even that important. But it’s so stupid that I can’t even say it when you’re awake. It’s true that my bangs are unruly but it’s not the only reason I wear them back in a braid. When I was little, the maid who did my hair told me I looked like a princess and that the braid looked like a tiara. Someone else told me that when my bangs were down I looked introverted and tired. But also, to tell the truth, when I was younger my brother used to kiss me here,” she pointed to her eyelid as if Bakura could even see when he was unconscious, “and tell me everything was going to be okay. I didn’t want my bangs to tickle his nose when he kissed me otherwise he might stop doing it... so silly all about a simple hair style…” Nanami paused for a moment, it felt good to get that off her chest, even though—no especially since he was asleep. “There’s more,” she could continue to confess things to him, things that she had never told anyone.

Bakura had almost laughed in their faces at that - since when did mostly self-inflicted comas induce backlashes? - but he had known better and complied after just enough resistance to not seem strangely obeying. Truth was that his body had needed the rest. Bakura had simply cheated with the rest to pull a few strings and scrounge a free healing or five while he was also setting up pieces and moving a couple of people to find clues and think like he wanted them to. All in all it had been a nice vacation in his soul room for him (an idea that had been sparked during his conversation about spoiling yourself and breaks with Nanami a couple of days back).
The disadvantage of all this was that he had woken up the moment somebody had entered his room and was now fighting hard to make sure that he kept breathing deep and evenly while Nanami kept telling him things. Hopefully this wouldn't take too long.

How about May 23rd, early afternoon :T
Perhaps that was a bit dramatic but there was nothing in Egypt like it.
It was with a small relief that he arrived at the room the receptionist had indicated; at least he could focus on a familiar face through the strange atmosphere. Unfortunately, there was more than one.
As he entered, the sight that greeted him cause him to pause and tense with repressed revulsion. Nanami had mentioned a failed mission but not who it was with. The thief had become such an insidious thorn in his side that stuck with him even in...
Did that mean he was responsible for this? He had been not content but not entirely put off to not make a fuss so long as Bakura was only making trouble for him but if friends were also getting hurt because of him, Atem wouldn't stand by and just accept that any longer. So much for being put at ease.
He stood still within the doorway fingers tensing round the items in hand, three, four, five seconds at most and then it's in the past, repressed and tucked away in an orderly fashion to be retrieved at the right moment. His attention snaps from the thief to his friend and his expression eases into a soft smile, taking in her stand without scrutinizing too closely, politely.
"Nanami." He voiced a simple greeting and it was at least something of a relief to see her looking far better for the wear that her companion.
23rd it is. =3
For a moment, the blond was vaguely aware that someone had entered the room and even after a second glance it took her a moment to register the Pharaoh. He seemed slightly tense for a moment but the feeling dissipated quickly and she was still a little languid so it didn’t make a lasting impression on her. "You came," she smiled a little at him.

May 25th, after the last healing
After the last encounter... he hadn't tried to reach the other Bakura. It was a combination of worry and fear. The last sight of the spirit being covered by that darkness... What would he find, if he went back there again...?
But the other him was as healed as he could be, yet still asleep... what was left but to go inside and try and bring him to the surface again...?
Taking a deep breath, he closed his eyes, effortlessly sinking into the familiar resonance.
'Bakura...? Are you there....?'
no subject
Bakura was there, looking a little roughened up but otherwise fine. The Sennen Ring hung around his neck. Upon the arrival of his host he stopped what he was doing and gave him a casual side glance.
"You're back."
