Characters: Yami Bakura and Nanami & and whoever would like to visit them.
Location: Hospital
Rating: PG-13
Time: May 21st – May 26th
Description: Yami Bakura and Nanami share a hospital room after their disastrous mission in Venezuela. Yami Bakura will be unconscious until May 25th, but Nanami will behere all week folks awake for the most part.
The room was silent with the exception of the machines beeping to remind visitors that the two bodies in the room were still warm. Nanami spent her time awake staring at the ceiling or out the window and periodically glancing over at her dormant partner in the other hospital bed that occupied the room.
He was covered in various bandages with bruises peeking out from behind them. His hair was sticking out in a more ridiculous manner than usual due to the bandage wrapped around his head like some sweatband from the 80’s. She had been updated on his condition shortly after she regained consciousness and besides the things you could see he had also twisted an ankle and had been poisoned by one of the monsters they had tried to fight off. The antidote had been administered shortly after they had arrived at the hospital but he was still unconscious.
Nanami hadn’t managed to get off scot-free either. Aside from the usual cuts, scrapes and bruises she had some deep lacerations on the left side of her back that had been stitched up and she was still anemic.

"Perhaps this will serve as a suitable distraction in the meantime." With a small shrug, he produced the offering of items in hand. The socks had been a simple enough request but the book was a more interesting matter. Hardcover and showing minimal signs of wear about the corners, the print emblazoned on the front bore the name of a well known mystery author. A 'who done it' affair as it had been described. Because even he knew the literature he was familiar with carried with it the quality of an artifact to be dissected rather than savored, at least in this time and space.
"That comes with a rather lofty recommendation from the library staff."

“Oh? That’s reassuring,” Nanami took the items from him and set the socks aside on the bed (she’d need help with those later from a nurse) and inspected the book with a smile. “Since this place is different, there are a lot of authors here that are new to me.”

"From my perspective, all of it is new. And the few things that were familiar read like some archaic relic rather than proper literature." Atem had never been one for scholarly exploits back home but he knew well enough to tell that the broken fragments of text paled in comparisons to the versions he could recite from heart. But he didn't find it particularly bothersome anymore beyond the fact that it had ruled them --and his small sphere of understanding -- out as an option.
Which was inconsequential in the scheme of things. “Let me know if it’s any good.” And while he means the book itself, he’s also referring to the distraction.

"I will certainly do so," she replied setting the book on her lap and then looking back up to him. She was a little curious now. "What do you miss most from home?"
no subject
"Same as most I suppose. My friends, family. The people I cared about there. I worry about them and everything I left behind." There's an odd finality to the way he talks but it endures only as long as he desires to dwell on it.
"Aside from that I think it would be the food. Not just the feasts either. I even find myself craving the cakes and fūl of the commoner's table. Nothing I have found here really compares."

He finished with a shrug. "I suppose I could attempt to make it myself although..." that would be inviting disaster.

"Have you ever been?" A pause, followed by a more appropriate first question. "Rather, does Egypt even exist where you are from?"
no subject
"Oh yes, it certainly exists but I'm afraid I only really know it through my studies in geography and history... classes," she stumbled over the words a bit realizing as she said them that it might have been what was that word, insensitive?

"Someday." He repeated with a nod as though it were something she should strive for as well. It would be worth seeing and he knew he would regret avoiding it forever. But until then...
"Perhaps it wouldn't be a bad idea to get away though. For something other than a mission at least."

For a fleeting moment he was conflicted, wanting to ask how Nanami could get mixed up with someone like that. At the very least, inquire after what happened. But that wouldn't make for a very good distraction.
So he sighed soundlessly and smiled in a reassuring way. "When you recover then. Or perhaps a bit before. That sort of thing can be good for you after all."

She tilted her head back and forth thinking. "I've been meaning to visit India for some time now but that's more for business rather than pleasure."
no subject
"But if that's business then it hardly counts. You have to make time for yourself."

"Now that you mention it. I think I am rather overdue for a break myself."
/"Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?"
I think so, Brain, but where will we find a duck and a hose at this hour?

Does this mean you're staying at the Luxor? XD
But now she has his full attention, couple with a rather incredulous look. "Even if that is true... that would not do us much good." He may be curious but a pyramid is just a tomb by his estimation.
No, this means WE'RE staying at the Luxor. =D Let's jump on the beds.
Ahhhhhh typos :T
“It sounds like we should stay there then.”
