Description: Training takes place every morning in the park to prepare the guests of the city for the ongoing war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on May 18th.

[Pretty much. Shinji does seem particularly phased by the idea that Sai might have questionable human status, though. If the unique rapid regeneration powers didn't tip him off earlier, the fact that he's particularly close to a non-human who at least looks like a mostly normal person kind of softens a person to that sort of information.]
