Time: 6am to 9am
Description: Training takes place every morning in the park to prepare the guests of the city for the ongoing war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on May 18th.

[His mouth snaps shut fast. Equally fast, his face burns.]

Wh-what I mean is that technically you're a girl and he's a boy so obviously there are some differences there and likewise you have things that he doesn't of course but this conversation really has nothing to do with that because I think you're great.

...would you be happier with a boy?

{Recent, ah, explorations would lead her to think otherwise, but there's no way to be sure.}

[tauborn]

[He blinks a little at the question, but after a quick moment of soul-searching he has his answer.]

No. [He reaches for her quickly and pulls her into his arms.] You're the one I want and you can stop asking me questions like that.

[itaidakimasu]

Sorry.

{She sighs a little.}

It's hard not to wonder. Wouldn't you, if I told you that I had confessed to someone else? Like...oh, I don't even know...Sasha or someone?

[tauborn]

[He frowns and pulls back slightly.]

Sasha? Why would you like Sasha?

[He hasn't even considered how he'd feel, because to him Sasha doesn't really have anything to do with this. If she'd said Kaworu, then it'd be a question for him to think heavily about. But Sasha?]

[itaidakimasu]

Why wouldn't I? Sasha's very nice! ...I just picked his name at random, though, since he was the last person I spoke with. Um, let me rephrase this. How would you feel if the situation was reversed, and I had been the one to confess to Kaworu?

[tauborn]

[He frowns, his face a picture of deep concentration. If Yako liked Kaworu.... It wouldn't necessarily be a surprising turn of events, considering how well Yako and Kaworu got along already. And Takuto is already loathe to do anything that could hurt that friendship.

After a long moment, he opens his mouth.]

I think... that would be okay. I mean, I trust Kaworu and obviously I couldn't blame you if you really liked him. He's very likable.

I'd be jealous if you wanted to spend more time with him than you wanted to spend with me, though.

[itaidakimasu]

...you'd be okay with me liking somebody else? The same way I liked you? You'd be okay if I wanted to kiss him, or thought about letting him do the things you like to do to me? Because that's part of it.

[tauborn]

[His blush starts to return. There was something very... fascinating about trying to imagine Kaworu and Yako together. And not necessarily fascinating in a bad way, either.]

Um. [He's not sure what to say. Obviously a normal person would be upset at this but Takuto is getting the feeling he's not at all normal.] He is very likable. [He shakes his head because that's really an answer at all.] As long as you didn't love me any less, I don't think I would complain.

[itaidakimasu]

...I-I see.

{Her voice catches a little, and it's quite obvious that she doesn't see and is starting to form the wrong conclusions. She looks miserable as she tries to pull away.}

[tauborn]

[Immediately he realizes that whatever he said, it was totally the wrong thing. He pulls her firmly back towards him, feeling frustrated with himself.]

Yako, wait, no, I meant--look, you're asking me questions that I've never asked myself before and how am I really supposed to know the answers to all this hypothetical stuff? I'm not good at this. I don't know the answers.

[He takes a deep breath.] What I mean is that if you confessed to Kaworu or something, I would be the biggest hypocrite if I held it against you. But if I asked you to choose and you chose me over him, then I'd have nothing to worry about.

[itaidakimasu]

...

{She lets her forehead fall against his chest.}

Even so...I guess I'm just wired differently than you. It—it hurts, Takuto. Knowing that...that if I were to leave, there would be somebody you could feel just as strongly about. That there's a chance that eventually I'll lose ground in your heart.

[tauborn]

[He blinks a little in surprise.]

It's not like that at all. You never said anything about leaving me. The situation was that you also liked Kaworu, not that you were leaving me for him. I'd be devastated if you left me. Don't think I wouldn't be.

And no matter what you're not losing ground. I don't know why you'd think you could.

[itaidakimasu]

...actually the situation was about me liking Kaworu instead of you liking Kaworu. Not both at the same time. I'd like to think we could compromise if we both ended up having feelings for a third party as well as each other.

[tauborn]

[Excuse him for a moment while he tries to imagine this compromise.

It's kind of like a lightbulb switching on inside his head. If Yako liked Kaworu... and Kaworu already said he loves both of them in his nebulous lovey way... that would probably turn out to be amazing. Except there's always the problem of Shinji.

So no, that would be totally weird and that's not at all normal and Takuto had better stop thinking about it.]

Look, Yako, the point is that there are some things I have no control over--and those things would be my feelings. But I can control who I'm going to be with and that person is definitely you.

You said it hurts you to think that I have feelings for someone else. Well it hurts me, too. But I'm happy with you and I'm pretty sure that being with Kaworu could never make me this happy.

[itaidakimasu]

{Sadly for Takuto's imagination, Yako hasn't quite developed those feelings for Kaworu...and she's heard it from his own mouth that Shinji is his priority, not Takuto or herself.}

As long as you can keep thinking that last part, I can handle this. But...if or when that changes, tell me.

[tauborn]

[Well, Takuto's imagination will probably recover.]

If it ever changes, I'll let you know. But can you do something in exchange for me?

Can you stop questioning yourself? If something goes wrong, it's going to be my fault. If we are ever not together, it's going to be because I'm not good enough to be with you, and not the other way around. I'm the one who keeps making mistakes left and right and I'm probably wired wrong instead of just differently. So stop thinking you're to blame when you never are.

[itaidakimasu]

I'll try, I guess...but can you blame me for wanting to think the best of you? And...I don't think you're wrong in any sense, so don't say that!

[tauborn]

[He raises an eyebrow.]

I may not be a genius but I'm not stupid, Yako. I can tell when my reactions or answers to things aren't normal.

[itaidakimasu]

But that doesn't make them wrong! Just...different.

[tauborn]

[He can't help but smile a little, and he snuggles her close before planting a kiss on her forehead.]

Thanks. And of course thanks for always putting up with me.

[A pause.]

We can still, um, resonate later sometime, right?

[itaidakimasu]

If you're good.

[tauborn]

I have been good!

[Even though he did just point out to her that he always makes mistakes, he'd like to also remind her that he hasn't made any mistakes for like two whole weeks now.]

[itaidakimasu]

Then doing so for a little while longer should be no problem, right?

[tauborn]

Right.

[Obviously this means he is going to be on his best behavior in order to stay on Yako nice list so he doesn't wind up with some lump of coal or something.]
