Morning Training!

Time: 6am to 9am
Description: Training takes place every morning in the park to prepare the guests of the city for the ongoing war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on July 8th.

Right now.. I have to keep training. I have to keep getting stronger. [ Although that was her mentality even before this place, right? Sure, it's a little more specific than that here, but even back home people always need to be on their guard, always need to get stronger. If you don't, you'll fall behind and be crushed. ]

If I don't, I'll never return home.

Mm...I understand how you feel. But be careful you don't overdo it: it will do you more harm than good.

[ Not back home, but maybe people would have if she actually interacted with other people there. After all, she never did - for a variety of reasons - and it's this place that practically made her interact with others, for better or worse. ]

I am perfectly capable of looking after myself. [ Even if she doesn't sound like it right now with how exhausted her tone is. ] I.. can't be crushed.

[Probably because it's true is what Aqua thinks, but decides not to say it.]

I wasn't trying to imply you couldn't take care of yourself or that you weren't strong. [This is said gently, but firmly.] But everyone needs a bit of help somtimes. Whether it's reminding them to rest or to give them a hand up.

Are you saying people should rely on something as unreliable as "help"? In the end, you can't be sure of other people's true intentions, their goals, their mindset. You can't even know in this place whether they'll stick around or not to begin with, they could just be gone the next day!

[ .. Whoops, she let herself go a little bit too much at the end there - causing her to click her tongue, clearly annoyed, although it's at herself for being so openly emotional. ]

.. In the end, the only one you can rely on for sure is yourself. So that's what you have to get used to, relying on yourself instead of on other people.

...that seems like a very lonely way to live. [She says honestly, but without any real reproach.]

But...I can understand why you might feel that way. [She's been burnt by her friends before, and she's definitely cared for a lot of people only to have BREW take them away, but in the end...] But even so, I would still choose to rely on my friends. Even if they end up leaving me, I still wouldn't trade the time we shared for anything.

I don't know whether I should call you foolish or stubborn to believe in something that fleeting so strongly.

[She shook her head, with a soft smile.]

It's not fleeting.

[At least, not to her.]

I believe, more than anything, as long as I keep my friends in my heart, we'll never truly be apart no matter how far we are.Even if they're not physically here, I know somehwere they are supporting me and that one day we will certainly meet again.

[This belief had sustained her through her darkest hours and it is the reason why, no matter what this place threw at her, no matter how helpless she may feel, she will always find the strength to stand back up.]

[ The more she talks to people here. The more she realises just how naive they are. Believing they're always with people even when they're all alone.. what kind of nonsense is that? There's no way you can be truly happy unless the person is at your side, right? ]

.. Aren't you deceiving yourself?

No.

[Her answer is quiet, but firm. It's hard to explain what happened to her without...getting into details about things she'd rather not bring up. But she'll try anyway.]

Even when I was ready to give up, it was because my friends were there in my heart that I was able to go on. [And because she was in theirs their Keyblades had come to save her.] The connection between friends...it's not something that can be easily broken.

People deceive each other constantly. If you're not strong, then you'll be crushed by someone else. [ That's the view of the world that's been ingrained into her forever by her grandfather until she was unable to believe anything else - even when she was just a little child. ]

Don't those very facts prove that human connections are nothing but fragile?

She would have denied that before she left the Land of Departure because it's not true, not between friends. She knows better now, but even so...]

It's true that there are always people who will hurt others, especially those weaker than them. But that doesn't prove that the connections between friends are fragile, because even if friends might hurt each other by accident, when it really matters, they'll always stand beside you.

[ Sorry, Aqua. It's just that someone like Masako who has literally never had acquaintances, let alone downright friends, can't really understand a concept like that easily, if at all.. ]

It sounds like your world is very different from mine. [ So that's the explanation for it her mind settles on. ]

[That surprises her a little. So far, it seems to her this is something that's pretty universal.]

I thought it was the nature of every place, but.. forging bonds and keeping them isn't that easy. People leave you more often than they stay.

[ Granted, it's more Masako's experience than anyone else's, but she's too quick to generalise.. ]

In the end, all you have left to rely on is yourself when you're all alone.

They might leave you physically but a part of them stays with you. [Her voice becomes softer, though no less sure.]

Before I came here, I was...lost somewhere that wasn't very pleasant. [Which was a bit of an undersatement, but she's not going to go into any real details.] If it wasn't because of my friends, because of the promise I made them...I'm sure I wouldn';t have survived.

A promise between friends can be a really powerful thing.

[There's a lot more to it but that is...the gist of it.]

It gave me strength when I needed it, that's why I can't just discard it.

That's great and convenient for you then. But it's not the way most people can live. [ She even doubts it's really the promise that pulled her through - in Masako's view of the world, it's just completely impossible. She can't even imagine it. ]

So it won't help me a bit.

[She doesn't answer right away, but when she does, her words are measured and calm.]

I think it could help you more than you realize. [But she doesn't really want to force the issue. Not right now.]
