Morning Training

Time: 6am to 9am
Description: Training takes place every morning in the park to prepare the guests of the city for the ongoing war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on April 24th.

Oh no it's ok ... La-lassie!

[Al does his best to go still, but he extends one of his large metal arms forward with his palm open for Lassie to investigate when she's ready. He swears he's not some strange metal robot thing, even if he is a little on the strange side.

Risking to glance backwards Al does his best to sound like he's smiling Aqua's way.]

Is she your dog?

Kind of.

[Even now she still thinks of Lassie as Katsura's dog instead of hers.

When she was sure Al wasn't going to do anything else, Lassie slowly creeps towards the offered hand and sniffs it a little suspiciously.]

Watching her for someone else?

[He's quick to catch on given the tone in Aqua's voice and he would smile if he could. After all, since Ed left he's been making his way through the city and caring for certain strays during his nightly patrols for the Watch.

When Lassie finally gets close enough to sniff him he glances back, waits, and when things finally seem to calm he lifts his hand slowly to pet the dog gently from the top of her head back down her neck.]

See.... I'm not so scary. Just different.

Mm, for a friend of mine. [And she'll just leave it at that, for now, if he doesn't press.

Different wasn't bad if it meant she got pets. Lassie's tail started wagging happily, clearly enjoying the attention.]

There we go.

[He says to Lassie knowing well enough not to pry any further about Aqua's friend. Given how they spoke about Ed when his brother left, Aqua should know he's willing to listen should she ever want to talk. It's only fair after all, equivalent exchange for helping him feel better. Continuing to give Lassie scratches behind her ears he pauses only to look back at Aqua again.]

Did you have plans on training today?

I was hoping I could find someone to spar when I was finished helping out here, actually.

[armorbound]

Ah! Well, I could help...

[He's already shifting up from his cross legged position to stand. Sadly, he's a little eager to get his mind off his failure.]

[She blinked, a little surprised.]

Someone's already taught you how to transform? [That's sort of what this area is for, right?]

[armorbound]

Not exactly.

[Alphonse was just getting ahead of himself.]

I was just saying that I could help... with the sparring. Sadly, I'm not very good at doing stuff around here.

[To which he means transforming. He's awful at it actually.]

[Oh. She smiled.]

Well, we can spar after we get this out of the way. I'm supposed to help people learn how to transform, after all.

That's what I've been trying to do, but I'm no good.

[Seeing as how there isn't any sparring to be had he eases back down to sit on the ground besides Lassie.]

[When he does that, Lassi will just lay her head on his leg before yawning.]

Well, can you tell me how you've been trying to do it? What are you usually thinking about?

Well, people have been giving me some different advice. Some say being in physical harm works well and others say that if you sit and concentrate - like um meditation is what they called it.

[It goes without saying that for someone of of his height, weight, and appearance has little to be afraid of when most people can do so little to physical harm him. So he's been doing his best to try the latter method.]

[blue_wayfinder]

...I wouldn't suggest putting yourself in physical harm, really. [Because...yeah. Just no.]

Could you tell me what you do when you try to meditate?

[armorbound]

It's not an easy thing to do considering.

[He explains as he lifts his balled leather and metal fist up and gives his chest plate a soft tap and then falls silent as it echos out from his hallow center. Knowing it better to focus on the latter question than why he sounds so empty.]

Sometimes I think about not trying to think, but most of the time I try and relax myself by repeating a lot of the exercises my teacher used to have us do as kids. Repeating scientific laws, rules, and information.

[Stuff that after all these long years were section nature.]

[The hollow echo was unexpected to say the least. But in the end, it wasn't really any of her business and they were supposed to be focusing on something else.]

That's not a bad start, but not thinking might not be the best way to go about it.

Probably... I mean I haven't had any luck since I started a few weeks ago. It's just ... it's -

[How is he supposed to explain this without explaining everything?]

Methods that everyone else seem to use don't work for me.

[Vague, but he guess it's a good start.]

[It's clear he's waffling on the real reason.]

["It's complicated" was an answer she'd given before, so she could sympathize.]

If you don't want to talk about it, that's all right, but it might help me figure out a way to help you if you'd tell me at least a little.

Well ...

[He starts to explain voice wavering as his head and attention returns to the smaller dog resting it's head in his lap.]

It's not that I don't want to talk about. I just ... made a promise and it's not you! I mean - back home only a small handful of people knew what was wrong too!

[This is what makes this even harder, Alphonse is usually a good judge of character and trusting.]

[Ah.]

I understand. There's something like that for me too. [Except it's not really something that was wrong with her per se...] For me it wasn't any kind of problem so much a secret I'm supposed to keep.

Brother said it'd be best if no one here knew so it's a little bit of both.

[At least he sounds like he's doing his best to reassuring Aqua in the absence of being able to smile at her.]

Then I guess we'll just have to keep trying different ways until we find one that works.

[Her smile came easily. She really didn't mind doing things like this.]

Was there any kind of weapon you used back in your world?

That'd be nice.

[The smile helps, he just wishes he could return it.]

Not really... I was taught to fight with my body and hands.
