Morning Training

Location: Training Ground, Shibusen
Rating: PG-13 for violence
Time: 6am to 9am
Description: Training takes place every morning in the park to prepare the guests of the city for the ongoing war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on April 24th.

[There are pointy things, and not-so-pointy things, but all of them deadly]

Nanami decided to forgo her usual routine today and was currently browsing the available weapons in the training area. Just because she was a weapon it didn't mean she didn't need to keep her own weapon wielding skills honed.

She picked out a katana checking its curve and testing it's weight before sliding it back to it's former resting place and moving on to the next. It might be time to see if one of the people she had resonated well with in the past month would accompany her on a mission to or through India so she could pick up a sword she was more familiar with using. Until then, the one she just picked out would do.

She moved away from the racks of weapons and began practicing some kata starting with drawing and slicing.

Bakura's eyes fall on her mostly thanks to the sword which's curve had seemed vaguely familiar to him. Drawing closer the Egyptian thief had to admit that the young woman who was using it wasn't all that bad.

Leaning his own practice sword against his leg he waited until she was done before he clapped slowly. "Bravo. It's nice to see somebody who knows what she's doing."

If he were Kaiba he would have added 'now shut up and duel me'. The thought was enough to turn the confident smirk on his face into a genuine smile for a short moment.

The sound of light clapping snapped her out of her almost trance-like state and she turned to find the origin of the sound. The blond girl tilted her head at him for a moment registering the comment and then she glanced around quickly to make sure he was actually speaking to her.

And then there it was, creeping up on her face, a rather proud and beaming smile. She elegantly sheathed the sword and then flipped some hair over her shoulder. "Well, thank you for noticing. I had some formal training back home." Her attempt to look nonchalant while replying wasn't very convincing.

He didn't really like the proud attitude - Bakura never liked it from anybody but himself - but he knew well how to mask his small disdain over it. This wasn't the time to randomly go crushing people just because they have some ego and/or faith in their skills. (Even if they made for the most entertaining victims in the end.)

"Thought so." He returned her smile evenly even as his eyes stayed hard. Nodding towards her sword, he asked "I have a bit of fighting experience as well. Who taught you?"

"I had a couple different teachers, there was Sensei Fujita, Sensei Saito and then my brother taught me a little as well." There was also the self-taught stuff after all, she normally used a scimitar instead of a katana, but there was no need to show her entire hand so early on in conversation.

"How about yourself?" She asked glancing at the sword he had next to him.

He nodded as if he actually cared about who her teachers had been or as if he would be able to learn anything from those name. What her answer did tell him was that there must have been reasons for her to get such an education in sword arts. Was it normal where she came from? Was she royalty or some other high position where learning such things, even if they would have been never needed, would have been considered prudent? There was no way to know with her wearing the same stuff as everybody else and also not acting notably different right now.

"I had the one or other friend who showed me the basics." He flashed her a smirk. Pretending to be his host while they were discussing a topic like this was out of question. That would have been ridiculous. "I picked up most from people who tried to kill me, though."

She nodded along since she figured she would have no idea who is teachers were anyway but it didn't matter since he didn't give her any names anyhow. Nanami didn't question his credentials at all even though it was evasively stated, she kind of missed that part but her expression changed considerably upon hearing his last line.

"Huh? Kill? Why?"

"Because I knew and spread information that some powerful people didn't want me to." His tone was almost unfittingly cheerful as he omitted the part about having been a feared thief amongst other things. "I'm also something of a treasure hunter. It's ironically more difficult to keep the good things you find than doing the finding itself."

There was a great lack of context in his explanation that Nanami was currently taking at face value.

"Treasure hunter, huh? That's kind of a neat job. What kind of treasures do you normally hunt for?"

"The ones you see in museums usually. Before I came here I was after something very special, though." He smiles oh so nicely. "Do you believe in magical talismans?"

So apparently this guy was some sort of archeologist or at least that's what her logic told her. To be honest this would probably be a natural thought to anyone from her back home.

"M...maybe," she glanced down at her rose signant ring. Yeah, there was no way to explain that stuff from back home without thinking about magic, "Well, yes now that you mention it, I kind of do."

He didn't miss her glance and immediately his eyes zeroed in on that particular piece of jewelry as well before he apparently dismissed it and turned his focus back on her face.

"That's nice to hear. I have been chasing a set of seven very powerful ones of them that were taken by various bad ...people, I guess you could say."

Nanami was completely obvious to him even noticing her ring, the ONLY item she had here that her brother had given to her. It was still SO VERY IMPORTANT even if all the student council members and that tomboy Utena had the same one. She did have her brother's cell phone as well but she had kind of borrowed that without asking.

"Really? What do the talismans do? Have you found any yet? Do you think there's any near here?"

"Each one grants you different overwhelming powers and it's said that they all together can grant you even much more." That described what the Sennen Items could actually do about as much as saying that the center of the sun was a bit warm, but she would have to be satisfied with that. He didn't feel like bragging about such important objects to just anybody, especially if that person could take an interest.

"Most of it is probably just myths but I know one thing for sure - they grant their owners what they really long for as well as the power to play a very special kind of game." He hummed under his breath. "One of them is currently in the city."

Nanami folded her arms and nodded slowly while processing the information he was feeding her. She was used to dealing with vague descriptions of powers thanks to her dealings with "Ends of the World" while on the student council. At one time she was quite interested in gaining power and sure it would be nice to have some here but what really fascinated her was the idea of actually hunting for treasure. And okay, maybe some acclaim in the end would be nice as well.

"Power to play a special kind of game, huh?" Her voice came out flat. If it was anything like the duels from home, Nanami was definitely not interested. "Well anyway, is there something you long for or are you just in it for this game?"

His expression turned into a cold scowl at the suggestion that collecting the Items might be something that someone would be doing just for fun.

"I'm not." Softening his voice, he eased his expression into a carefully crafted smile again. "Sorry, that hit a bit of a sore spot. ..My whole family was eradicated because of those items. There are still many people who enjoy abusing their power and forcing people to play those deadly games. All I want is to end this and return those things back to where they came from."

One could say that it was all a big game, after all. A very serious and cruel game~

Even though he was smiling, it seemed wistful and the mention of family made her frown. "No I'm sorry," she sighed a little, "it appears I have a strong penchant for dredging up the past that no one wants to talk about." She sadly wondered if he had lost a close sibling.

"No worries." He waved the topic aside, inwardly smirking to himself. "It has been a long time and you couldn't know about that when you asked your question." He gave her a thoughtful look. "Did somebody get mad at you asking questions before?"

That was a very good point in her favor. "Well, for the most part there's just the look," she was referring to practically everyone who talked to her about their past, "it's like they just put their dog down or something.

"Oh, then Takuto yelled at me but I was just trying to see where he was for resonating purposes." She might have kind of overstepped her boundaries with him a little bit but she only felt she was about 5% at fault for that.

"They did?" He tsk-ed under his breath. "That's plain stupid. The past won't get any better no matter whether you speak about it or not. All you can do is to face and deal with it." Or force others to do just that. The pharaoh, late and current, still owed him a big dept about his.

"Did you call him in front of his girlfriend or something?"

"Well, sometimes it helps to talk about it rather than keep it bottled up inside then exploding on some poor innocent bystander," like her, of course Nanami was also a huge hypocrite.

The blond stared blankly at the other for a moment not understanding what he meant since she had meant where he was in his technical training and just didn't state it clearly. "Huh? Well no, I don't think I've ever spoken with his girlfriend but it must be rough on her since he gets all distant when something reminds him of his old weapon partner." It didn't really occur to her that she probably shouldn't be telling this to a stranger.

He snorted at the poor innocent bystander comment. Talking from experience there was usually a reason why the dams broke.

"Probably", he agreed while making a mental note to figure out who that girlfriend was for later purposes. That guy was more or less close with his host, so he could most likely be used. His fixation on relationships of the romantic sorts was making estimating Takuto's next moves rather easy. "What happened to him? His partner, I mean. Did he get killed?" Was it a weakness that Bakura could exploit?

Nanami shook her head, "no, nothing like that, it would appear that he was sent home which seems par for the course around here. That's why it's not a good idea to get too attached to anyone. Well anyway," she changed the topic, "I'm Nanami, I've been here for a little under two months and I'm a Weapon, pleased to make your acquaintance."
