Morning Training

Location: Training Ground, Shibusen
Rating: PG-13 for violence
Time: 6am to 9am
Description: Training takes place every morning in the park to prepare the guests of the city for the ongoing war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on April 24th.

[He's not the only one doing some observing. Sheena's several feet away, looking out over the others at the same time she keeps an eye on him.

She's determined to continue their conversation, whether he wants to or not.]

[The Judge did nothing to recognise the one behind him. He had sensed Sheena standing there for quite some time, but acknowledging her would only bring about a result he wished to avoid. That was why he remained quietly observing the other participants while jotting down his notes.

Perhaps if he continued to maintain his silence, she would simply grow bored and disappear.]

[He could wish all he want, but Sheena wasn't going anywhere. Being ignored only made her more determined to be noticed and accepted by him. Granted, this wasn't usual for a ninja, but having been trained in multiple weapons herself, she knew the rewards that could come from finding the one a person could wield best.

And for Yuri, that Weapon was her.

After several additional minutes, Sheena crossed to him and made sure he couldn't ignore anymore.]

Yuri, we still have something to discuss.

[While his attention was elsewhere, Yuri refused to acknowledge Sheena's presence. He knew well what it would bring, and since that incident, he had kept a low profile from the young ninja. The Judge had thought that his obvious disinterest would shift her own elsewhere, but that had been a greatly falsified thought within his mind.

When she approached, his calm gaze shifted from his notepad to Sheena.]

How is your injury, Miss. Fujibayashi?

[Very false. Surely, he hasn't forgotten her tenacity upon finding out what he had been up to all those weeks ago when she followed him to the hospital? That should have been a good indicator that she wouldn't give up easily.

Her gaze when it met his was calm, yet determined, and when she answered, there was none of the pain that had laced her voice the last time they spoke.]

My injury's coming along fine. I think it's completely healed--or almost.

[While she may have remained calm, Yuri remained completely impassive as they both maintained their stubborn natures around them.]

It is pleasing to hear. [Nodding his head at her answer, the Judge felt not reason to break his new silence as he instead turned his attention back to the training crowd around them.]

[Arms folded, she continued speaking, a hint of sarcasm lacing her tone.]

Yeah. Imagine my surprise when I woke up in the clinic with my injuries taken care of and doctors and nurses hovering over me.

[Her eyes narrowed slightly.]

Now, how in the name of Mizuho did I get there?

[The sarcasm was wasted on Yuri, as he regarded the situation with his usual level of calm. When she spoke about waking in the clinic, he never once missed a beat as he began writing down his notes again.]

You were taken there, Miss. Fujibayashi.

Yeah, I kinda figured that, since I doubt I walked there--or that a spider carried me.

[Dropping her arms to her sides, she crossed to in front of him so he'd have no choice but to look at her.]

And since no one else was around, that leaves you being the one to take me there.

[Yuri once again kept his silence even as she stated the obvious. He didn't care to receive any sense of gratitude or acknowledgement. All he had done was get her the medical attention she had needed, which was why his impassive gaze remained even as she moved to stand in front of him.]

Your point being?

[She had no intention of thanking him right now, but to acknowledge something else that maybe he thought she'd never think of.]

My points are this: For someone who doesn't care, you could have left me behind, but you didn't, so that proves you do care. And second...

[She steps closer to him, her voice lowering.]

Just how did you get me to the clinic when the spiders were still coming without fighting, Yuri? We were nowhere near it.

[He listened quietly to her points, neither confirming or denying her suspicions, and simply allowed for her to speak her mind. Yuri was never one to attempt to change the minds of others, after all, and the decisions they made were decisions made for themselves - not at the hands of his thoughts.

So when she stepped closer, he regarded her quietly.]

The threats were merely avoided.

[By his trusty Meister ability, but he kept that piece of information to himself.]

Just "avoided"? While carrying an unconscious person who was bleeding and leaving a trail?

[She paused and took a deep breath before continuing.]

It's got to be part of whatever ability you have; no one's that lucky.

[The suspicion she had kept him silent, and he maintained that position with a neutral expression while regarding Sheena. He wasn't going to admit anything either way even if she gave the appearance of never giving up, and would allow for her to assume anything she desired. It wasn't his place to change her mind either way, after all.]

I do not see the revelance.

You really don't?

[She stared at him in disbelief.]

You can use your ability to help people, Yuri! You can help Kid and everyone else end this war so they can go back home! [She paused and looked at him with a strange expression of mixed emotions.]

And don't tell me that one person can't make a difference. I know better. I saw it happen on my own world with my own eyes.

[He listened to her words, and it was far from obvious that he was unmoved by it. Why people were so stubborn in forcing his hand to do actions he had no intention of participating in was beyond him. The Judge had no interest in any of it, and yet he kept all of his thoughts trapped within.]

As I told you, Miss. Fujibayashi, I am not a fighter. I aid this city in the best way possible. Are you saying that it's not enough?

You're not a fighter. Yeah, right. You fought pretty well when your life was in danger. I was there, remember? No amount of paperwork could have done the same thing.

[She stopped and stared at him for a moment, the thought that crossed her mind almost too painful for her to bear--but it goes with everything that's been done and said.]

Oh. I get it now. It's not that you don't want to fight; it's because it's me, right? I'm surprised you didn't just leave me for the spiders to finish off, but I guess there would have been paperwork for that, wouldn't there?

[Sheena Logic has taken over, and when she's hurt, she sometimes says things she doesn't mean. Or that make sense to anyone but her.]

I may be able to defend myself, that does not mean that I am capable of fighting on a grander scale. [Which was mostly true. Yuri had no interest in fighting the war, but his interests more lay in the capture and punishment of those who had slipped by the system. To him they were what was most important, as there were more than enough capable fighters here to deal with those prolonging this war.

Yuri kept his silence when she jumped to her own conclusion. There was no point in attempting to sway her thoughts either way, and attempting to make logic of a woman's thoughts was well beyond him. Yet as he stared at her displeasure and listened to her words, he felt his jaw clenching before he grunted softly and finally took a step back to begin walking off. He was no hero, and wanted nothing to do with that line of work. No, that was best left to the fools who wished for public acknowledgement while he tended to more important matters. Instead he began to walk off as his memories of his own mother began to surface. He couldn't allow for the emotions to take root. No he wouldn't allow for it to happen.]

Be reasonable, Yuri! No one's asking you to go out and take on a thousand enemies at one time! That would be ridiculous. Every individual fight is just that: one individual against maybe one or a few enemies. Or several--like those spiders.

[Sheena obviously doesn't share his opinion. To her, the welfare of those of the city was tantamount--and that included everything from stopping the criminals from hurting them, to preventing the witches and others from stealing their souls. And if they could achieve both by working together, why not do it?

Her brows raise in surprise at the grunt, since she can't remember ever hearing that sound from him before. She must have hit a nerve somewhere for him to react like that and try to walk away. Try being the operative word--since she sees fit to block his way once again.]

So, am I right, Yuri? Is it because of me? Or is there another reason why you won't do this? And don't tell me because you're not a fighter, when you know damn well I know you can do it!

[It didn't seem to matter what he said, she wouldn't accept any answer he gave that was undesirable to her. That was why, even as she came to block his path again, the Judge stood there quietly. He didn't answer any of her questions, but instead covered up his own sense of growing displeasure with a subtle but pleasant smile.]

My apologies, Miss. Fujibayashi. You are a rather capable fighter, and thus deserve a partner that holds the same dedication and passion as you have displayed. These are both traits that I cannot offer you, and I believe that your focus would be best suited elsewhere. I will support Shibusen and the people of this city to the best of my abilities, but I have always found my strength to be with gathering and relaying information to the true heroes.

[ooc: I think it would be difficult for him to accept a Weapon/partner before he's outted as who he is and thrown in jail 8|a ]

[It's not a matter of the answer being undesirable; the ones he was giving didn't make sense. Not after what she had experienced with him. So, when he started again, she expected more of the same excuses as before.

But she didn't get them, making her pay close attention to what he was saying, and made the determination that he was telling the truth this time.]

So, it's no me. And it's not that you don't want to fight, or can't fight; it's the lack of discipline in fighting that you have? Do I have that right?

[If she did, then yes, he was right. He might be able to fight one or two battles, but without that fighters' discipline, he'd grow weary at the wrong time; and it's probably too late to get him to start training the way she's used to right now.]

[ooc: I kind of figured that. Not sure how Sheena will react to that. :P]

[The mere thought that he, of all people, was undiscipline, was ridiculous to say the least, but he said nothing in that regards as he maintained his pleasant smile.]

Of sorts. I feel that my place is not on the battlefield, but aiding those who do fight there with what information I am capable of gaining. It may be a difficult concept for those who do fight to understand, but it is where I belong.

[ooc: the wait? Or the reason he went to jail? XD]

[Unless he told her otherwise, she would believe that he wasn't a disciplined fighter. That didn't mean, however, that he wasn't stringent in other areas, and as he continued, she felt her cheeks start to burn and she turned away slightly.]

I, uh, actually should understand, Yuri. My village is a village of information gatherers (SPIES), and many times, the king or the Chief wouldn't act until they had that knowledge. [She looked back at him.]

I forgot about that when I felt the resonance between us and how well you fought. I'm sorry to put you in that position.

[ooc: A little of both. ;)]

[It seemed that his attempts worked, which was a relief given that it would mean she'd keep her distance. That was all he desired, even if by doing so, he had to skirt the edges of truth. Yet it appeared as though his attempt had worked.]

You've nothing to apologise for, Miss. Fujibayashi.

[The blush wasn't missed, but he gave no reaction to it even if he offered a subtle, but friendly smile in return.]

[Oh, Yuri... Such a silly notion. Just because she couldn't get you to be her Meister didn't mean Sheena was going to keep her distance from you. All that meant was she wouldn't bring it up at every opportunity she spoke with you--now that she considered you a friend.

A rather irritating friend, but one nonetheless.

Shaking her head, her expression became solemn.]

No, I do have to apologize, and for a reason you probably would find silly.
