Morning Training

Time: 6am to 9am
Description: Training takes place every morning in the park to prepare the guests of the city for the ongoing war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on April 24th.

[She nods and walks behind him, checking his form. It doesn't matter so much on the field where the fights get heated, but here-- ah, damn. There she was going again on his posture. And after what happened yesterday.]

[Ugh, just forget about it.]

... Would you like to practice with me?

[topgun_textiles]

[He hesitated as he emptied that clip, and nodded to have the target paper refreshed.]

Uh... sure.

[A glance back, a brief smile, and he switched the practice gun's safety before setting it down.]

B-but don't guide my shots; I wanna see if I can't get a better score on my own steam.

[pishirogane]

Very well.

[It wasn't an emergency so she could contain herself. She held out her hand to him.]

Thanks, Naoto.

[He knew there was something they needed to address today... two things, really, but right now he just wanted to see how he could shoot without that little nudge at the edge of his senses. So he reached out and took her hand, glad that even after last night's whatever-the-hell-that-was, this hadn't changed and she wasn't too cross.]

[pishirogane]

[There are better times to deal with what transpired last evening and now wasn't one. She smiles and shifts, taking on her gunblade form. Resonating with him has become second nature and she waits patiently for him to proceed.]

[That, too, was something that didn't fail to catch his notice. He'd resonated with a good handful of the Weapons here, but right here? Right now? It didn't take so much as an ounce of effort to resonate with her. Filled with that familiar warmth but not seeking to push their connection any further just yet, he gave the gunblade a showy little twirl and stepped back into position.]

[The target sheet was ready, and so was he. His finger lay over the trigger, and he let that poor silhouetted bastard on the paper have it.]

[pishirogane]

[In this form, Naoto could still perform her instructing duties to Kanji as well, her eyes watching the bullets she created hit the paper. As he wanted, she didn't guide him herself; she only informed him which way to move to better align the shot]

Next shot, shift your aim two centimeters to the right.

[topgun_textiles]

['Two centimeters,' he muttered under his breath, trying to gauge just how far that was. The distance to the right was eyeballed, and he fired another set. Hmmm, how was that...?]

[pishirogane]

[Naoto watches and refrains from any other ability besides the faint pulse she releases]

... Better. Continue.

[topgun_textiles]

[Was it just him, or were the shots arcing a little bit? He paused and waited for that breeze to pass through, ignored the sun laughing away in the sky because morning training was finally back and people running around was always fun to watch, and continued to fire. But there was a small note of apprehension here, a small glance to the metal of the gunblade, but he was back on target soon enough.]

[pishirogane]

[She didn't miss that moment of hesitance nor the few misfires, but didn't do anything to stop him.]

Kanji, is something wrong?

[The one disadvantage of having such a clear and steady soul resonance: Nothing passed one's notice. With a spark of shame, he shook his head quickly as if to deny it... but with a sigh through his nose, he called for another target sheet refresh and took his finger from the trigger.]

I-I was just thinking. ...We go on a lotta missions, right? And our resonance has been pretty damn solid.

What happened with the slugs worried the hell outta me, but... thinking back on it, I feel like stuff like that's supposed to happen. I felt like...

[The sheet was up, but he was busy looking down at the grass briefly. He had to be honest, but that didn't stop a shy feeling that even had his soul jittering.]

I felt like I can take anything on if you're with me. Heh... I still do. So I got to wondering if... well, should...

[pishirogane]

[Naoto's concern echos back at his shame. Did she do something wrong? Maybe this was about her taking the lead during the missions. Oh wait...]

[Her eyebrow raised and she tried to settle his soul. This was not going to help his concentration at all. Immediately, she freezes when he continues, color rising to her face. She has an idea what he might be trying to ask, but it sounds like something else too.]

... Yes? [She tries giving him some confidence boost, but now, her own soul is a slight swirl of confusion and other abashed emotions. He just needs to ask straight out instead of this vagueness that sounds like a marriage proposal.]

[Wh-what was that weird swirling just then? It was tying his stomach in knots, and he probably looked a little ridiculous as he got back into position with bright red ears and a matching color to the face to boot. Yet his finger never touched the trigger, knowing full well he wasn't going to make any good shots if he tried.]

[But the encouragement brought about a swallow from him. He still wasn't sure if this right here was too soon, or- or if maybe he was just freaking overthinking this. Man, if he didn't know any better, what he said kinda sounded like a -]

Y'know, I just... I-I wonder if we could be partners!

[pishirogane]

[No one could hear the conversation they were currently having which was somewhat a relief.]

[When he finally got the question out, she let out a breath she didn't know she had been holding. Naoto figured that would be what he wanted to discuss and honestly, she had been considering it. They had been working well together and what happened against the slug seemed to re-affirm this]

I have no qualms against being partners with you. [While she missed Minato, she couldn't deny the two of them had been working together. If she was ever going to pick another Meister, why not Kanji?]

[He'd been worried that maybe it was too soon to bring it up and ask. Seconds felt like minutes between his idea and her answer, and he'd be lying if he said he wasn't expecting the worst and had prepared for it, especially after the tomato incident and last night's crap.]

[With her answer - especially with how calmly she sounded through their connection - that weight lifted from his shoulders. Shinigami help him, he was ready to hug the crap outta the gun in his hands regardless of who was watching.]

[But here, he'll settle for an appreciative pulse through their link as he got back into position. Now he was really fired up!]

[pishirogane]

[No one would ask probably and she might be a little less embarrassed about being hugged in her gun form.]

[She returns his pulse with her own, echoing his sentiments. Now that he had that off his chest, it seemed like he could concentrate.]

[Seemed so! With his head clear, he was able to take aim, pause and fire. He was going for vitals and joints, recalling the Kishin Eggs he'd faced thus far.]

I think for the next mission, we could go with blade form. ...I'm thinkin', if that weird change happened in this form, what happens if we go all out with your sword form?

[pishirogane]

[Wise decision. Hitting the vitals and joints would hinder a Kishin egg quickly. She watched with satisfaction]

It's worth experimenting.

Cool! Man, I can't get over it- was I losin' my mind, or did that attack look like Megidolaon? I mean, y'can't miss that purple explosion anywhere. The slug didn't even see it coming.

[Though what remained was to speak with a Shibusen rep, what if they were stumped, too? What if BREW had somehow overlooked the possibility of achieving a resonance like the one they had, and Yamato Sumeragi somehow woke up...?]

[pishirogane]

No, you're not. It was very similar to Megidolaon...

[And the feeling that came over her was almost similar to that of summoning her persona. Hopefully, someone from Shibusen would be able to answer their questions. Having it unknown seemed like a troubling thought]

Should probably make mention of it to whoever we talk to. I think I wanna practice it a little bit before the next mission, but... well...

[He'd let it hang. Maybe it was his worrying too much to wonder aloud if what they'd done was causing her any harm.]

I wanna know what that was, first. Mind if we take a little break, get some info?

[pishirogane]

[She senses his worry and doesn't say anything. Instead, she tries sending him a pulse of what she hopes is a calming wave]

Yes, we can.

[topgun_textiles]

[He shouldn't like soul resonance as much as he does. The small sparks, the pulses of emotion, and all exchanged in private... though maybe he was just weird for thinking so. But it was a comfort to him to know that maybe he wasn't a complete worrywart. He eased his soul away after making his last shot, and stepped back to give her some room.]

Think I saw somebody heading to Meister Ability training. I'm gonna try there. Spreading out to find out what we can and combining what we know later worked back home, so why not here, y'know?

[She changed back when she sensed he was done, her hand still holding onto his]

Indeed. I'll head over to Soul Perception and see who's there.
