Description: L looks like hell. More than usual. Cue Bakura worrying and acting as L's caretaker. Because someone has to...



Bakura had barely been home long enough to take off his shoes and set down his groceries (and new assortment of first aid supplies) before going back out into the hall to knock on the door across from his.

"Ryuzaki-kun? It's me... are you in?"

"Do you have crutches? So you aren't going to be stepping on it at all if you can help it?" Bakura asked, getting to his feet.

[dead_black_eyes]

"I'm getting some tomorrow, after an appointment I have earlier in the day," he said, not quite stating the nature of said appointment. People who spoke regularly with L often got used to his habitual vagueness.

[shiromadoushi]

Bakura nodded, more than used to it. "You'll be all right getting there by yourself, right?"

[dead_black_eyes]

"It's a short cab ride to the apothecary, so it should be fine. My 'appointment' won't actually require me to leave my apartment, and if it does, I'm sure I can convince my visitor to give me a hand."

He smirked slightly as he said it, strongly implying that he would have no choice.

Bakura blinked. "...Who's coming over?" he asked, curious now.

[dead_black_eyes]

Just one more insane person who really isn't good for my health.

"A work assignment. You know how it is..."

Even though Bakura had literally no reason to know. L was more closed-mouth about his work than nearly anything else.

Bakura blinked. "You can do that sort of work from here?"

Not that Bakura had an exceptional idea what Ryuzaki did for his job...but he was on the watch, like Vash was, only not doing patrols...

... so no, he actually had little idea what Ryuzaki's work involved.

"Yes, I can," L said, frustratingly simply, leaving it at that.

[shiromadoushi]

"So I see..."

Bakura shook his head slightly with a smile. Really, he should know better than to have Ryuzaki volunteer anything... "Have you eaten yet? I can bring you something before you go."

"You know... you went to see him. I was surprised to see that, except not really that surprised.

[shiromadoushi]

"Eh?" Bakura blinked before scratching at his cheek awkwardly. "What are you talking about, Ryuzaki-kun?"

...there shouldn't have been anyway that Ryuzaki would know anything about that, if it was what Bakura thought it was.

[dead_black_eyes]

"You know what I'm talking about. I thought you weren't an idiot...? Do I really have to spell this out for you?"

[shiromadoushi]

Bakura's shoulders slumped. "Call it optimism..." he half mumbled. "You were watching the cameras again...?"

[dead_black_eyes]

"Of course I was. I'm up for a promotion. I'm not going to start slacking now."

[shiromadoushi]

"You sound more like a stalker, Ryuzaki-kun... Why were you watching me anyway?"

[dead_black_eyes]

"It's part of my job to watch people of interest. I thought you knew that, or could at least figure that out."

[shiromadoushi]

"You've never told me what anything about your job was," Bakura pointed out. "And how am I a person of interest...?"

[dead_black_eyes]

"So self-absorbed. Not you, your evil counterpart. You're far too thick to warrant surveillance, I'm afraid."

[shiromadoushi]

Again, Bakura's shoulders slumped. "Never can tell with how you do things..." he mumbled, not meeting his friend's eyes.

[dead_black_eyes]

"Maybe you're not my type, either. You're not the only person who's a little bit discriminating."

[shiromadoushi]

"...what?"

[dead_black_eyes]

L sighed exasperatedly.

"You told me once that I wasn't your type. If I was stalking you on my own time? You'd be my type. Since I don't, you're not, do you follow, for once?"

[shiromadoushi]

Bakura sighed softly, doing his best not to shake his head. "And that jerk is..." It wasn't even a question any longer.

[dead_black_eyes]

"He's not exactly repulsive to you, either, seemingly."

[shiromadoushi]

"It's complicated...."

And Bakura didn't at all want to try and explain it. Especially not to Ryuzaki...
