Description: L looks like hell. More than usual. Cue Bakura worrying and acting as L's caretaker. Because someone has to...



Bakura had barely been home long enough to take off his shoes and set down his groceries (and new assortment of first aid supplies) before going back out into the hall to knock on the door across from his.

"Ryuzaki-kun? It's me... are you in?"

Well, at least as deflections went, games were a very good one.

He gave a faint smile, nodding. "I'll go get my deck, then."

"Didn't you give me a deck? I thought you did..."

And he valued it so deeply that he didn't even remember.

"I did... You need two to play, though. One for each player."

Of course Ryuzaki hadn't even looked at the cards. Of course.

"I got you the candy themed starter, remember?"

"Did you?" L snorted, seeming amused by the theme... indeed, as if it was the first time he had heard this. "That's amusing. I'll go find it, I'm sure I still have it."

He still checked the rubbish bin first.

"You didn't even look at it, huh?" Bakura sighed, turning away with a small smile. "I'll be right back..."

He'd be sure to bring a small pile of extra cards... just in case.

It turned out that the deck was in his room, buried under one of his candy stashes. He tore open the plastic, going through the sets-themed cards.

"You picked this out specifically for me?" He called across the hall, gnawing his thumb.

"It seemed like the best theme suited for you," Bakura explained, shuffling through some of the extra cards to pull out a few more sweets themed cards to hold out to his friend.

"I suppose..." L agreed noncommittally, taking the offered cards between his thumbs and forefingers and scrutinizing the pictures on them.

"Is this one a cupcake with teeth? How ironic."

"It wouldn't be much of a monster if it was just a normal one," Bakura pointed out with a smile.

[dead_black_eyes]

"No..." L agreed, "but I don't like monsters. I'm afraid of them. I like normal cupcakes."

[shiromadoushi]

"It'd be harder to fight with just those," Bakura returned, smile still pleasant. "And I didn't think you were afraid of something like that. Or do you mean just the real ones, not anything like this or things in movies that are just for fun."

Not that most people would think of horror movies as "fun" but in that respect, Bakura wasn't much like most people.

"I'm afraid of monsters," L reiterated, though that scarcely helped at all.

[shiromadoushi]

"Even something like this?" Bakura blinked, holding up a card showing a shadowy figure hovering over an old suit of armor labeled "The Museum's Specter." "Or do you just mean like the kishin eggs?"

"Everyone is afraid of Kishin eggs. That's rational. They'll kill you and eat your soul," L replied, thumbing through the cards. "But I know people who are just like this cupcake, even if they don't appear so, on the outside..."

Bakura blinked again. "Looking innocent until suddenly they're all teeth and trying to kill you?" he guessed.

That was how the Ring's voice had worked, after all...

"I'm really just afraid of being eaten. So, yes, you could say that..." L said softly, turning the cupcake over in his fingers.

Then he started shuffling the deck, a bit roughly for a collectible card game.

"Tell me the rules." It would have been easier to flash-read them himself, but perhaps he really just wanted to hear someone's voice.

Afraid of...?

Bakura blinked yet again before accepting the subject change and starting to rattle off the rules. It was pretty similar to Duel Monsters, stars for levels, sacrifice summons for the higher levels, fusions, magic cards, trap cards, all the expected things. And a few additions, of course. That are intentionally left vague to be exploited later, as is only proper for a Duel Monsters type game

L nodded as the rules were explained, asking questions for clarification when needed (though it was seldom, because Bakura really did know the game and how to explain it to someone who had never played before.)

He set his deck down after shuffling it, drawing the required number of cards to start and glancing at Bakura expectantly. "We flip a coin to see who goes first?"

As he'd been explaining it many many times already, it was with practiced ease now.

"If you'd like! Or you can choose," Bakura offered, smiling happily over his own cards. Even if it was Ryuzaki's first game, he wasn't going to go easy on him. Ryuzaki wouldn't forgive him if he did that!

"You go first. I want to see a turn in practice before I take mine," L said. Altogether, a fair request from someone who abhorred making mistakes.

So for your advanced knowledge: He did make Dark Necrofear 2.0. Current plan: Ouija board strategy!

Bakura nodded. "OK! First turn, Draw!" he announced, pulling his card. His eyes danced back and forth over the cards in his hand as he did his best not to grin. Yes, that strategy might work... It was a little unfair to go for that combo in the first game, but this was Ryuzaki! This was likely his only chance he had to actually win against his friend before he got as good as Yuugi-kun!

"I'll set one card face down in defense mode and end my turn!"

Now to see if Ryuzaki would play aggressive or defensively... because he had the cards to do this two ways.... one was just a lot more fun!

L's going for an infinite regenerativity strategy (playing cards that let him draw more, etc)

Aggressively, of course.

"I'm drawing... Playing the Ruddy Baker in attack mode, and setting this card faced down in defense mode. Ending my turn."

This is going to be fun for them both, innit? :D

But not attacking, huh? Interesting~

Bakura nodded, drawing his next card. The face down was likely a trap... he was sure Ryuzaki was going to use a lot of those.

He nodded to himself. "Setting another card in face down defense mode, and setting another face down card," he announced. Perversely enough, it was a bit more expected that Ryuzaki would attack when there was a more obvious trap than one that was invisible. The obvious trap he could see and dismantle. The hidden one was an unknown to be studied before it was attacked.

L glanced at Bakura's facedown cards, completing his upkeep and placing a card next to the Ruddy Baker.

"This is the Cursed Crepe Press. While it's attached to the Baker, I can destroy a facedown card on your side of the field each turn. So I choose the one on the left, and I will play another facedown card in defense mode. Turn end."

[shiromadoushi]

"Aaaa, that's pretty troublesome! Pretty lucky to get that combo so early in!" Bakura smiled, picking up the destroyed card and placing it in his graveyard. So that was the method, huh? Whatever the method, as long as Ryuzaki kept pushing his monsters into the grave, he was still set~

Though it wouldn't do to look like he was just sitting back and letting Ryuzaki win...

"I play the Helmeted Kappa in face up attack mode. His helmet protects him from the effects of all other cards."

But the downside of the Helmeted Kappa was it's low attack points... and with the Baker having higher, a direct attack wasn't what he was going for.

"Using it to attack your face down!"

No matter what the status of that second card, the Kappa would stay on the field, and Ryuzaki would likely attack it, letting him play his trap in return.
