Bakura had barely been home long enough to take off his shoes and set down his groceries (and new assortment of first aid supplies) before going back out into the hall to knock on the door across from his.

"Ryuzaki-kun? It's me... are you in?"

"You sound more like a stalker, Ryuzaki-kun... Why were you watching me anyway?"

"It's part of my job to watch people of interest. I thought you knew that, or could at least figure that out."

[shiromadoushi]

"You've never told me what anything about your job was," Bakura pointed out. "And how am I a person of interest...?"

[dead_black_eyes]

"So self-absorbed. Not you, your evil counterpart. You're far too thick to warrant surveillance, I'm afraid."

[shiromadoushi]

Again, Bakura's shoulders slumped. "Never can tell with how you do things..." he mumbled, not meeting his friend's eyes.

"Maybe you're not my type, either. You're not the only person who's a little bit discriminating."

[shiromadoushi]

"...what?"

[dead_black_eyes]

L sighed exasperatedly.

"You told me once that I wasn't your type. If I was stalking you on my own time? You'd be my type. Since I don't, you're not, do you follow, for once?"

[shiromadoushi]

Bakura sighed softly, doing his best not to shake his head. "And that jerk is..." It wasn't even a question any longer.

"He's not exactly repulsive to you, either, seemingly."

[shiromadoushi]

"It's complicated...."

And Bakura didn't at all want to try and explain it. Especially not to Ryuzaki...

"What if it came right down to it and you had sex? Would that be incest, or just incredible narcissism?"

[shiromadoushi]

Bakura stared, eyes huge. "Wh-- tha--- As if that would ever happen!" he stammered, utterly appalled that Ryuzaki would even suggest something like that.

"It wouldn't surprise me. The two of you resonate, don't you? You probably thought that that could never happen, at one point."

[shiromadoushi]

"One has nothing to do with the other!"

[dead_black_eyes]

"But it was something you thought was impossible, but it turned out not to be."

[shiromadoushi]

"That's like saying because a man walked on the moon, that we'll have a colony on the sun! It's not going to happen!"

[dead_black_eyes]

"It's not as dissimilar as you want me to believe. Do you honestly think I've never been in a similar situation?"

[shiromadoushi]

"This is nothing at all like you and Light!"

[dead_black_eyes]

"Tell me how it's different, go on... and no stupid reasons, like 'he literally lived inside me.' That goes without saying."

[shiromadoushi]

"How is something like that a stupid reason?!" Bakura demanded. "Everything about it is different!"

[dead_black_eyes]

"Just because the catalyst was different does not mean that no one else in the history of the world has felt the same way. Get over yourself."

[shiromadoushi]

"The same for you!" Bakura snapped before realizing just how agitated he had gotten and turning away sharply. "I'm not saying it's unique in the world, just that it's nothing at all like what you think it is...." he clarified, almost mumbling unhappily.

[dead_black_eyes]

"I wasn't possessed through some magical artifact. That doesn't mean for a second that he wasn't living inside me, and that's what you're too young or too stupid to understand."

[shiromadoushi]

Bakura was unhappily quiet a long moment. "Light-kun got to know you the way you get to know others, right? Dissecting what he could, prying for what he couldn't, cracking a complex code and spinning a web from tiny scraps of information... He viewed you as a challenge, the same as you viewed him, right?" he asked in a quiet, soft voice. "You chose him as your target and forced your way in..."

He trailed off quietly, looking off into the distance at nothing at all. "That's what's different..."
