Description: L looks like hell. More than usual. Cue Bakura worrying and acting as L's caretaker. Because someone has to...



Bakura had barely been home long enough to take off his shoes and set down his groceries (and new assortment of first aid supplies) before going back out into the hall to knock on the door across from his.

"Ryuzaki-kun? It's me... are you in?"

"I explain a lot to you, and you understand a very small portion of it; that is my impression. You ask me to repeat myself so frequently."

"I ask you to explain or confirm... not repeat..." Bakura pointed out in a soft voice.

[dead_black_eyes]

"You ask me to endlessly reword things, then," L sighed.

[shiromadoushi]

"I just want to be sure I know what you mean... It'd be more problematic if I had it wrong, wouldn't it...?"

[dead_black_eyes]

"It would be best if you just got it right the first time."

[shiromadoushi]

"If I always got it right the first time, I'd have to be just as smart as you, if not smarter..." Bakura pointed out. "And from your world to know everything you were talking about...."

[dead_black_eyes]

Saying that L was smart admittedly tended to placate the detective.

"You're right. My expectations need to be more realistic."

[shiromadoushi]

Bakura nodded, relaxing a touch. "And the more you explain and confirm things, the better I'll be able to keep up the next time, right?"

Far better for Ryuzaki to underestimate him and be impressed when he did manage to keep up, after all...

"Right," L said, oddly perky about it. It wasn't a good feeling to not understand why others didn't always gel with his way of doing things, but it was wonderful to understand why.

[shiromadoushi]

So far so good...

"So would you explain why you're making it sound like you want me to think of you as a horrible person...?"

[dead_black_eyes]

"What a stupid idea. No one wants that," L chortled.

[shiromadoushi]

"That's what you were making it sound like..." Bakura deflated. "What were you after, then?"

[dead_black_eyes]

"I don't recall. Let's talk about it later, and play chess now. Or you can teach me that card game you were so excited about."

[shiromadoushi]

...

Well, at least as deflections went, games were a very good one.

He gave a faint smile, nodding. "I'll go get my deck, then."

[dead_black_eyes]

"Didn't you give me a deck? I thought you did..."

And he valued it so deeply that he didn't even remember.

[shiromadoushi]

...

"I did... You need two to play, though. One for each player."

Of course Ryuzaki hadn't even looked at the cards. Of course.

"I got you the candy themed starter, remember?"

[dead_black_eyes]

"Did you?" L snorted, seeming amused by the theme... indeed, as if it was the first time he had heard this. "That's amusing. I'll go find it, I'm sure I still have it."

He still checked the rubbish bin first.

[shiromadoushi]

"You didn't even look at it, huh?" Bakura sighed, turning away with a small smile. "I'll be right back..."

He'd be sure to bring a small pile of extra cards... just in case.

It turned out that the deck was in his room, buried under one of his candy stashes. He tore open the plastic, going through the sets-themed cards.

"You picked this out specifically for me?" He called across the hall, gnawing his thumb.

[shiromadoushi]

"It seemed like the best theme suited for you," Bakura explained, shuffling through some of the extra cards to pull out a few more sweets themed cards to hold out to his friend.

[dead_black_eyes]

"I suppose..." L agreed noncommittally, taking the offered cards between his thumbs and forefingers and scrutinizing the pictures on them.

"Is this one a cupcake with teeth? How ironic."

[shiromadoushi]

"It wouldn't be much of a monster if it was just a normal one," Bakura pointed out with a smile.

[dead_black_eyes]

"No..." L agreed, "but I don't like monsters. I'm afraid of them. I like normal cupcakes."

[shiromadoushi]

"It'd be harder to fight with just those," Bakura returned, smile still pleasant. "And I didn't think you were afraid of something like that. Or do you mean just the real ones, not anything like this or things in movies that are just for fun."

Not that most people would think of horror movies as "fun" but in that respect, Bakura wasn't much like most people.

"I'm afraid of monsters," L reiterated, though that scarcely helped at all.
