Time: 6am to 9am
Description: Training takes place every morning in the park to prepare the guests of the city for the ongoing war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on May 4th.

S-seriously, it ain't a big deal! I mean, I didn't spar or nothin' today, just hit the shooting range! I mean, my Partner's a gun, and I didn't wanna get all rusty on 'em!

[There's a sigh.] You'd get better faster if you rest. And I might be able to make something to help you heal faster if you'd tell me what happened.

[Lily, that sounds awfully close to medicine, and he knows how gross that stuff always is.]

I'll rest when I get this stuff finished up! Everything in this pile's stuff that'll get picked up at nine when training lets out. Shit, I mean, some people are goin' shirtless right now, but I think that's 'cause it's hot as hell today...

[It's lucky for Kanji that she's not likely to get her hands on any of his hair or nail clippings to use in a brew...]

[She raises an eyebrow.] Couldn't they just wear something else? They would have other clothes, I reckon.

I'm just worried about you going out and fighting those demon things. It's not as if it would have been something you did back home...

Pretty close to what I took on back home, actually. [He nodded.]

Shadows. They didn't eat souls or nothin', but they were born from people's thoughts or whatever. I'd beat the shit out of 'em after school let out on most days with friends'a mine. Naoto and Rise're from my world. They took 'em on, too.

We ate those bastards for breakfast... but we also had healing spells n' everything, too. I miss all the Diarahan; patched us right up.

[She blinked in astonishment.]

Shadows? As in tangible shadow creatures? [Lily was reminded of that grumpy white-haired guy Shirogane and his talk of shadow creatures in his world.] But why were you kids fighting something like that?!

Healing spells? Diarahan? [What the heck was that? She continued, a bit hesitant.] ...You mean you could use magic where you came from?

Yeah. They start all blobby at first, but then they kinda change shape like into giant bugs or whatever. We were the only ones who could go into their world and take 'em out before they'd snuff anybody.

[A nod.]

Sure. I used lightning magic a bunch, had a little heal, but it ain't all that great compared to what Rise could do. Naoto was an ass-kicker, lotta dark and light spells. Banishment. Wipes the floor with the sorry bastards.

Into their world, as in jumping dimensions? Y'all were paranormals or something?

[And she was gaping a bit.]

And lightning magic? ...You mean you could control the weather? [That type of thing took a lot of power. And didn't Lezard mention having spells like that, too? Healing, light and dark spells, were these kids all sorcerers, too? ...Or witches?]

Yeah! Well... we could enter TVs. There was a world on the other side, and some asshole was throwin' people in there without the power we had, leavin' 'em there to die. So we'd go in and get 'em out.

[He grinned.]

Heh... kinda? I just call up Takeji Zaiten, and he'd drum up some lightning. So I guess we were summoners in a way... oh, but the Persona we summoned up are a part of us. Sort of a... version of us that exists in that shadow world.

BREW took that away. If I went up and touched a TV, nothin' would happen. Really sucks.

[And now she was staring, trying to decide if it was just a tall tale.]

You literally went into TVs to rescue people? [Lily sometimes wondered if she was silly to be nervous about technology but if there were demons lurking inside TVs, maybe she wasn't being so paranoid after all!]

Takeji Zaiten? Persona? [She wasn't sure if she completely followed with these unfamiliar names but she kind of understood about summoning. Although if she was summoning things, it was usually so she could exorcise them. Her tone became a bit cautious...] Did y'all always have these summoning powers, since you were born?

[He shook his head and averted his gaze.]

...No. We went through a lot to earn 'em. Shadows... are pieces of people's thoughts, right?

[He paused.]

Rise, Naoto n' me were three of the victims the guy we were after kidnapped and shoved in. All the shit that was eatin' at us made the shadows tougher... and one of 'em would become strong enough to turn into a version of us representing all the bad shit we wanted to push away. We had to take 'em down, then accept those parts of ourselves, or it'd go nuts and kill us on the spot.

We turned that part of us into a power to help people. It's... kinda how I met everybody, when I was all mad and couldn't figure my shit out.

Heh. You wouldn't'a liked me about a year ago.

[Okay, so they hadn't been born with their abilities, not natural witches as she was.]

So, these things were kind of like personal demons but more literal? [His talk of acceptance reminded her a bit of how it had taken years to accept that she was a witch. Although her thoughts hadn't been trying to kill her.]

A year ago... You've only gained this power that recently? [Then, they couldn't have been that experienced with fighting the supernatural... That worried her a bit. She crossed her arms and gave him a stern look.]

Now, if you're willing to tell me all of that, are you going to let me know what happened so I can try to help you get better? Or do I have to fire you? [She wouldn't seriously fire him but she wasn't above a little coercion.]

Right! And they'd show up on TV at midnight and make up embarrassing shows and stuff. So we go in, fight the 'demon', accept it and head out in one piece.

[A nod.] Yeah! We'd go train every day after school. I got pretty good at handling 'Zaiten, but I do miss the big lug.

[But he suddenly sat up straighter. Lily. You -scary-.]

F-f-fire me!? The hell!? I just got jumped by kishin eggs is all! One was a lion and it clawed me a little.

A lion?! [She huffed in exasperation.] And how long were you planning to hide this? Unless you were planning to run away with the circus, that's not exactly a normal injury.

Where and how bad is it? I should be able to mix a poultice for you. [Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately for Kanji) she didn't have all the ingredients to try a brew and she couldn't exactly draw a magic circle in his living room and start chanting without a lot of questions. But she should be able to at least manage that.]

I-I ain't hiding it! I just got outta the hospital! Got dragged there, really.

Uhh... my back, and a little on the shoulder. My jacket got ripped to shreds. Woulda taken a chunk outta my shoulder if I wasn't wearin' the thing, but now I need a new one. [He rubbed the back of his head.]

And you were telling me last night it was no big deal? [Who in their right mind considers nearly having a chunk of their shoulder removed by a demon lion no big deal?! She sighed again and shook her head.]

I take it they already stitched you up yesterday. I'll make an extra large batch of poultice and bring it by with the clothes tonight. [Because it sounded like he needed it!]

Yeah, they stitched me up real good. They want me back in a week or somethin' to check n' see if the stitches dissolved a'right.

Poul-poultice? [He remembered Megumi briefly touching on those in the first-aid training he got, but never really delved into it before BREW sent her home.]

Herbal medicine. Kind of like salve. You heat it up and apply it before the bandages. It should help speed up the healing. I can write up instructions if you need them. [She supposed he must have been more used to modern medicine than herbal remedies.]

...Y'had me at 'speed up the healing'. I'll do it. Keeps my ass outta that hospital.

[A nod.] I'll mix some up after the shop closes. Meanwhile, get some rest.

[And she'd better go gather the herbs she'll need.]

Like I got a choice... my - partner's probably gonna drag me home by the ear in a few, anyway.
