Time: 6am to 9am
Description: Training takes place every morning in the park to prepare the guests of the city for the ongoing war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on May 4th.

[Takuto and Shinji]

[hedgehogsdilemma]

[After the evening out he'd spent with Yako, Shinji found himself feeling a little less out of place in Death City. He had come to the conclusion that he wanted to give training in combat another shot, but upon actually getting to the training grounds, he felt his resolve fade. He still isn't entirely sure just how to go about the whole business of partnering up, and simply being around so many people is still a struggle for him.

So, he has taken up a spot of grass far enough from everyone where he can still passively observe with little chance of being bothered himself. It was times like this that he sincerely missed having his music player handy, but at least he's made the effort to get out.]

[Seeing Shinji sitting by himself on the edge of the training grounds sends a little pang of guilt through Takuto. He quickly scans the area around the other boy, looking to see if Kaworu were there and not at all sure if he's disappointed or relieved that the angel is nowhere to be found.

Still, maybe it's for the best that he can finally talk to Shinji without Kaworu around. He tries to approach casually and very non-threateningly. As he gets closer, he realizes he actually really wants to talk to Shinji, and doesn't want to scare him off.]

Um... Shinji? Do you mind if I... sit with you?

[He bites his lip a little as he waits for an answer, still standing a goodly distance away.]

[As Takuto approaches, Shinji feels his stomach drop a little and his guard immediately goes up. It was the fact that the other seemed to be completely non-confrontational this time around that caused him to relax, just a little bit, though he couldn't help but wonder what it was exactly that Takuto wanted.]

... Sure. [He wasn't really in any position to really decline the offer, he figures, and maybe it would give him a chance to try and at least smooth things over as far as his relationship with Kaworu was concerned.]

[tauborn]

[He sits beside the other boy--not too close, but close enough to make conversation comfortable--and watches the rest of the training going on.]

Um, so about the other day... sorry that was out of the blue.

[He's not actually going to apologize for punching Shinji, though. It was deserved.]

[hedgehogsdilemma]

[He isn't about to argue if it was deserved or not, he's actually on Takuto's side with that particular issue. He's really not sure how to respond to that particular apology, though.]

I... It's not that big of a deal. [That sounds pretty sufficient to him.]

[tauborn]

[He frowns.]

It's not?

[hedgehogsdilemma]

[Not quite the reaction he had hoped to get. Awkwardly, he reached up and rubs the back of his head a little.]

W-well, it isn't the first time something like that's happened, so I'm not angry over it or anything... [... Wow that really paints a good picture of him as a person, doesn't it? He stops himself before saying anything else particularly stupid, instead ending his thoughts with,] Sorry.

[tauborn]

[Takuto couldn't help but smile a bit, even as he shook his head.]

Actually, that's... kind of a relief to me. [Wait, that could totally be taken the wrong way.] Not that, you know, you get punched or whatever, but that... you don't think I'm too strange.

[He took a deep breath. This conversation was already very awkward.]

So, er, Shinji, do you think we can be friends?

[hedgehogsdilemma]

[Shinji hesitated for a moment in disbelief as he absorbed Takuto's request. He hadn't planned on anything like that, and wasn't really sure how to respond.]

I... thought you hated me. [Count on Shinji to make this conversation even more awkward good job Shinji.]

[tauborn]

[Takuto winced a little, but shook his head.]

I don't hate you. I just... don't agree with you. On some things.

[He drew in a deep breath and exhaled slowly. His eyes dropped to the patch of ground directly in front of him as he absently began plucking blades of grass.]

...I'm also... kind of jealous of you, but let's please not get into that.

[hedgehogsdilemma]

[Shinji quickly thought over what sorts of things Takuto knew about him, and... couldn't figure out where on earth any jealousy would come from. He doesn't want to press the other for details, especially after that last comment, but it does leave him feeling pretty baffled.]

... I'm sorry. [While he's not entirely sure what, exactly, he's apologizing for aside from invoking jealousy, but the apology feels completely necessary.]

[tauborn]

[And now he's embarrassed.]

That's not something you have to apologize for, you know.

[hedgehogsdilemma]

[That's just kind of a thing Shinji does. Apologize for everything.]

... I feel awful about everything that's happened, though. [He let his focus drop to the ground in front of himself.]

[tauborn]

I'd be a lot more upset if you felt fine about all of that.

[He's quiet for a long moment, wanting to ask but also dreading the answer. In the end, he has to know.]

So... K-kaworu... how is he?

[He wishes he could have asked that without his insides wrenching as painfully as they did.]

[hedgehogsdilemma]

[Considering the way their confrontation left off, Shinji isn't entirely surprised at the question, but he's really unsure of the answer. Kaworu wasn't exactly the easiest person to read, after all.]

I think... he's still kind of upset. [He pauses briefly.] I can try and talk to him for you, though.

[tauborn]

[He shakes his head quickly. The last thing he wants is for Shinji to go talk to Kaworu about him.]

N-no, I... I want to talk to him myself.

[And it's only as he says the words that he realizes just how much he really really wants to talk to the other boy. He sighs, and then speaks quickly afterwards and tries to pretend he didn't because he doesn't want Shinji to think he's being too dramatic.]

So, um, are you here at training because you're thinking of joining the war effort?

[hedgehogsdilemma]

[A strange mixture of mild confusion and relief settles on Shinji's mind at Takuto's reply. At least he hadn't approached Shinji with the intent of getting him to patch things up between him and Kaworu, but the idea of him simply wanting to talk strikes him as a little unlikely.]

Maybe... I'm not sure. I was told I should learn to fight either way, but I don't... really know how much I'd be able to help the war. [He still feels completely useless without his Eva oops.]

[tauborn]

[Takuto hesitates a little, but eventually nods.]

Unfortunately, you should learn. The city isn't always this peaceful.

[Sometimes it feels as though something catastrophic happens every month, actually. And the city wasn't even particularly peaceful lately, considering the public's opinion of Shibusen and its guests.]

You said you were a weapon, right?

[hedgehogsdilemma]

I know that. [He sounds pretty resigned to that fact. Just because he knew he had to learn the combat techniques of this world doesn't mean he has to be particularly thrilled about it. After all, there are plenty of factors contributing to his worry of being mostly useless.]

That's right.

[tauborn]

...They told you that weapons like you are the only things that can do anything against Kishin eggs, right? Other kinds of weapons don't have any effect.

[That makes you pretty darn effective, even if you don't actually do anything. So there's no reason to sound so reluctant. He thinks meisters have more difficulty in being useful since it's their skill at using a weapon is what counts.]

Wait, you're a knife?

[hedgehogsdilemma]

[He recalls being told something of the sort, and while he still doubts his own ability to be useful, there's something about hearing it from Takuto that boosts his confidence. Just a little.]

Yeah... [He nods a bit.]

[tauborn]

I'm pretty good with bladed weapons. [He says the words slowly, considering the idea even as it was forming. And if he were being honest, he'd say he is really good with bladed weapons.]

...And I'm a meister.

[hedgehogsdilemma]

[Takuto you are being so subtle that Shinji almost doesn't catch where you're going with this. When he does finally get the drift, he speaks slowly with a little uncertainty.]

You... want to try pairing up...?

[tauborn]

[Takuto shrugs, though the truth is that once he gets an idea, he usually wants to follow through with it.]

Well, we could try resonating, I think. Have you tried it yet?

[hedgehogsdilemma]

Not yet... [He can't help but wonder if it's unusual for him to have gone so long without trying, though he wasn't entirely sure what to expect from it.]

I... guess we could try.
