It had been a little over a week since the sandstorm, and thus a little over a week since the last batch of newcomers. When the readings indicated that BREW was activating again so quickly, it was a bit of a scramble to get everything prepared. The last time it activated before then was early February, so this really was a small time frame. It had been some time since that happened.

But everyone dutifully prepared just in time for the first arrivals. It was also a relatively good day despite the past few rain showers. At least things were much calmer now.

Dirk spun the sword one more time, then sunk it back into the toilet, staring impassively at Naoto. He looked unaffected by her bemusement, but it got him to stop screwing around one way or the other.

"Sounds like they couldn't handle the awesome responsibility of the toilet sword to me. But fine, whatever. How do we do this, you gotta take my blood pressure or something?"

[pishirogane]

Well, she wasn't expecting him to actually stop. Strange, but it would do.

Naoto cleared her throat. "Nothing like that. It's simply a scan much like that of an x-ray. It shouldn't take more than a minute and should you have any further questions at this point, I will answer them to the best of my abilities."

[splinterstrider]

"Let's get the lead out, then," he said, his hands falling to his sides. "This whole Meister-Weapon shtick is supposed to be really important, right?"

[pishirogane]

Naoto took the lead with little urging.

"Yes. The Meister, or Technician, is the one capable of wielding a Weapon and drawing out their more dormant potential through Soul Resonance. Their partner, the Weapon, is one of the few individuals here who can destroy a Kishin or Witch and collect the souls safely. If one is without the other, handling Kishins and Witches tends to be difficulty putting it mildly..."

She stopped beside her machine and took it out of its hibernate mode.

[splinterstrider]

"So if I'm a Meister, I gotta use some other yutz to kill the witches and demons, and if I'm a Weapon, I gotta learn some transformation thing, so another shmuck can use me to do it. Awesome."

With that pithy explanation out of the way, he approached Naoto and her machine and waited for her to get started with it, arms crossed. As he waited, he couldn't help but wonder if his being the Prince of Heart would influence this at all. He guessed wielding a weapon instead of being one sounded a little more princely? But, hell, he kinda expected to be told he was gonna have to manage being both a Meister and a Weapon at once, somehow. Wouldn't be the first time.

[pishirogane]

"More or less... Though, don't refer to my Meister as a shmuck if possible. You may call him an idiot when necessary."

The machine was finally ready. He was already standing in the correct spot so Naoto just decided to run it. A few seconds later, there was a ding.

[splinterstrider]

"Idiot, not a shmuck. Got it." Dirk waited silently as she ran the machine. When she finished, he looked at her expectantly. "That was quick." Probably the easiest part of all of this so far, actually. "So what's the verdict?"

[pishirogane]

"Good."

She waited for the results to appear and finally, nodded towards him. "You're a Meister. To find out your ability, I suggest attending Morning Training. It's held every morning from 6 AM to 9 AM in the park. From there, you can spar, search for potential partners, have breakfast, or simply speak to other Guests..."

The young detective adjusted her cap slightly. "Any other questions?"

"So I gotta work out until my soul is fucking ripped. Awesome." It was difficult to tell if he was being sarcastic or not, his face and tone were so utterly impassive at the moment.

"No, I'm pretty sure that's it. There anything else?"

[pishirogane]

Naoto didn't care if he was being sarcastic at the moment. She was simply doing her volunteer job.

"Hm... Did you apply for your temporary residence here?"

[splinterstrider]

"No, I pretty much just wound up here after the tour. So I guess I gotta go sign up to live in one of these morbid-as-shit sounding buildings until I get a job, right?"

[pishirogane]

"It's only the theme since the founder of Death City and Shibusen happened to be the late Shinigami-sama. A God of Death naming everything with death should be expected."

Either way, she resumed speaking about the buildings. "You will apply either for Casualty Communal or Creeping Crypt. All new Guests are given board in both buildings free of charge. They're furnished with the basic necessities and more can be purchased. When you get a Partner, its often recommended living together to improve your resonance and partnership which is where Death City Heights comes in. Again, free of charge, but there are plenty of rooms to be rented in the other buildings where they charge rent.

On that note, Shibusen will cover most of the bare essentials if you show the cashiers your communicator, but of course, more luxurious purchases require the currency, Death Dollars. You receive Death Dollars through the usual which is working or free-lancing." Does she have to bring up the 'no stealing policy'? "Another way is through missions which can be applied for at Shibusen. However, don't expect to use solely missions to rent a room; the apartment owners will not allow that."
