[ OPEN ] August 2012 Introduction Log

Characters: OPEN to new arrivals and NPCS.
Where: En route to Casualty Communal
Rating: Gen
Time: March 12 onwards
Description: Welcome to Death City!

It had been a little over a week since the sandstorm, and thus a little over a week since the last batch of newcomers. When the readings indicated that BREW was activating again so quickly, it was a bit of a scramble to get everything prepared. The last time it activated before then was early February, so this really was a small time frame. It had been some time since that happened.

But everyone dutifully prepared just in time for the first arrivals. It was also a relatively good day despite the past few rain showers. At least things were much calmer now.

[ooc: Player characters will also be joining the log. Everything after the sub thread Soul Perception is open to all characters.

Roy gladly turned his attention away from the room beyond and toward the man who had spoken. He was slowly getting used to the fact people actually knew him here, but any return greeting effectively died unspoken. It couldn't be the man he normally associated that name with.

Not unless the thing responsible for his being here was capable of dragging men back from the dead. The issue of the Hughes knowing him could be explained by the fact a number of people here seemed to know him from being here before. It didn't necessarily mean that the Hughes that the man spoke of was one he actually knew.

It's a good minute or two of silent staring at the man before him before he actually does speak, voice quiet. ".....Maes Hughes?"

Somehow, Six had the distinct feeling he'd just stepped on a landmine which made absolutely no sense.

He nodded his head in response to the question. "...Are you all right?"
incinerare: (Don't try to fix me I'm not broken)

[personal profile] incinerare 2012-08-07 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
You did, Six. A three year old landmine actually. Fortunately, it isn't going to blow up in your face. Just give him another minute to actually deal with the information that his best friend who has been dead the past three years is alive here.

".....yes." Actually, no. Not even close, but he's certainly not going to dump the emotions this little revelation has caused on you.

Six glanced back at the goings-on, seeing Kid screaming at Excalibur and the others trying to do their jobs with those grimaces on their faces. He then turned back to Mustang and finally noticed something very different from the pictures Hughes had shown him on his camera.

"...You're not the same Mustang, are you?" He reached up to tap at one of the sunglasses lenses, indicating the lack of eye patch.
incinerare: ([casual] surprise/o rly?)

[personal profile] incinerare 2012-08-07 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
That question was confusing but personally he was glad for the abrupt change of subject regardless. The motion of the man tapping against his sunglasses held no actual meaning for him though. Care to actually explain what you mean by it, Six?

"What do you mean not the same?"
sixthdeadliest: That can't be good... (Concerned)

[personal profile] sixthdeadliest 2012-08-07 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"I never met you in person, but Hughes showed me pictures of you that he took while here. You had an eye patch here." He again indicated the appropriate eye. "But now you don't. Either you managed to fix your eye or you're not the same Mustang."

Also? Guess who doesn't know that Hughes is technically dead.
incinerare: (apology/pained/sorrow)

[personal profile] incinerare 2012-08-07 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ah. I've never worn an eye patch before." So yeah, definitely not the same Mustang that had been here previously. However, he had to wonder just what had happened to the man who had been here before that he'd ended up in an eye patch.

"Where is Hughes now?"

And guess who's not about to discuss the fact that Hughes is technically dead? At least not here in such a public place.
sixthdeadliest: That can't be good... (Concerned)

[personal profile] sixthdeadliest 2012-08-07 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
A question for Hughes to answer, not Six. He didn't know much about Mustang in general except that he...some other version of him...had been head of The Watch.

...This whole situation was going to give him a headache.

"Most likely at his apartment. I can give him a call to let him know we're coming over, but it'll have to wait until this is all over with."

He nodded his head back towards the insanity taking place behind him.

"I can take you to the cafeteria to grab some coffee while you wait if you want. Assuming not too many more people show up, I'll be done for the day. I'd take you sooner, but I did volunteer for something like this."

And free to never get within a ten-mile radius of Excalibur without it being absolutely necessary ever again.

Between learning he was now to be involved in yet another war that he currently understood little about, and learning of the fact that the man he called his best friend was alive here, after being dead for three years... just let it suffice to say that Six wasn't the only one with a budding headache.

"I would appreciate that. Coffee sounds good and I can wait."

Considering the insanity happening further inside, he was perfectly willing to leave it and head elsewhere until the man was free. It'd give him some time to think over everything that had been dumped onto him today.

Six nodded his head and started to lead the way.

Then something occurred to him. "We might as well see if you're a Meister or Weapon first."

It wasn't entirely unlikely that he'd be the same as his previous version of himself, but best to check.

"Could you hold still for a moment?"
incinerare: (interested/talking)

[personal profile] incinerare 2012-08-08 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Of course." He wasn't entirely certain what standing still had to do with checking whether or not he was either of those two things, but it was an easy enough thing to do for the other man.

"Thank you." Six held up the device and started adjusting it. "This reads your soul to get the basics of which you are. You'll have to find out what your Meister ability is from those with actual Soul Perception." He glanced back at Excalibur. "Which I imagine you'll way to do at a later date."

After a minute or two, he got the result. "Meister. Well, it means you'll be able to partner with Hughes if you want to. He's a Weapon."

Technically, he was only Hughes's temporary, emergency partner. It all worked out in the end, it seemed.

"Come on. Let's go get you that coffee."

The device got a curious look while it was in sight, its purpose becoming clear a moment later as Six explained what it was for. He was left to wonder just how it was capable of doing that, but if this place was capable of pulling people from other worlds here and raising the dead, reading a person's soul likely wasn't that big of a deal to the people here.

He gave Six a nod of acknowledgment and moved to follow him. "All right. Lead the way."

He'd have to possibly talk with Hughes about the Weapon business at some point, it would be nice if he could rely on the other man's support once again. Be it as a partner or just a friend helping him out whenever he could.

Six pocketed the device again. To be honest, he wasn't sure how the thing worked either. He'd figured it'd be best to just roll with it lest he get himself confused.

"I can give you a copy of the basic map I got from Miss Azusa. Apparently, they usually give it to first year students."

And it was almost laughable to look at. Really, the former Shinigami had made it rather childish-looking. Not to mention Six swore it'd been drawn in crayon.

"The school's massive, so they didn't have a full map."

He wasn't usually one for small talk, but after causing the man such distress earlier, he wanted to make up for it some.

Then he remembered something somewhat important.

"My name is 'Six', by the way."
incinerare: ([casual] smile/friendly)

[personal profile] incinerare 2012-08-09 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
The small talk was appreciated, as was the offer of a map. "A pleasure, Six. Has anyone ever thought about trying to create a full map for it at some point?"
sixthdeadliest: Relaxed. (Leaning against a wall (full body))

[personal profile] sixthdeadliest 2012-08-09 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"I thought about getting myself lost and testing myself to see if I can find my way back then drawing up a crude map that way, but it was pretty much all overlapping squiggles by the time I finished even one wing. There's multiple levels to the school that even go underground. The outside is arranged symmetrically but the inside isn't always the case."

It was frustrating, really.

"Best I can think of is to do a floor-by-floor slice of the place which will take a while."
incinerare: (planning/plotting)

[personal profile] incinerare 2012-08-09 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hm. I see. Interesting. It does sound like any sort of full map of the place would be quite the endeavor. Though, it also sounds like any such map, might end up being too large to easily carry with you."

He mulled that over for a moment before speaking once again.

"I suppose then, that people just memorize the paths which they need and to hell with the rest? From the sound of it, this place is too large to be considered as a whole. You'd have to just consider getting to point a before you go from there to point b."

"We'd have to find some way to transfer them into the mirror system at any rate. Not sure how good scanning technology is here and I have no idea how well it'd work with the mirrors."

Trying to blend magic and technology didn't seem like it'd always work despite what he'd read thus far of the Magic Tools.

He nodded in response to the question.
incinerare: (oh? / interested)

[personal profile] incinerare 2012-08-09 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Good work at managing to get the man's interest and yet utterly confuse him at the same time, Six. He gave the man a look of curiosity as he walked along beside him.

"Mirror system? Scanning technology?"
sixthdeadliest: Relaxed. (Leaning against a wall (full body))

[personal profile] sixthdeadliest 2012-08-10 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"You got a little mirror when you arrived." Six pulled out his own from his pocket to show. "Instead of the portable phones in my world, you can contact one another using these via text, voice, or video.

"As for scanning technology, well, it's basically a machine that takes a picture of documents or other images and stores them electronically so you're not up to your eyeballs in paperwork."

He wasn't even going to get into the idea of 3D scanning technology. He'd already blown the man's mind once today.

"Sorry for just throwing it at you. It's common where I'm from."
incinerare: ([casual] surprise/o rly?)

[personal profile] incinerare 2012-08-10 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, Six. You lost the man at the word video. But fortunately inasmuch as he's curious enough to check out the mirror now, he'll leave it till later when he's alone in his apartment. "It's all right. What is video though?"

There was also the question of just how a mirror could act like a phone in the first place. Not to mention the question of just how it actually worked to send text to others, but hopefully those questions would be answered by reading the manual that had come with the phone.
sixthdeadliest: Relaxed. (Leaning against a wall (full body))

[personal profile] sixthdeadliest 2012-08-11 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Moving pictures with sound," Six answered. "It's everywhere nowadays."

It looked like in addition to being dragged to this world, Mustang had a lot of technological catching up to do.
incinerare: (surprise/oh?)

[personal profile] incinerare 2012-08-12 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, he had a lot of catching up to do when it came to technology, but at least he had the desire to learn about it in spades so to speak. That should help things along a bit really. Provided the devices could actually be explained with science instead of magic anyway.

Roy gave a small nod at the explanation, considering it quietly as he did so. Moving pictures he knew of, the fact they had sound however was something new.

"I see. And the scanning works similar to a camera taking a picture of something, I assume? How do you store the pictures electronically though?" There's a feeling he's likely missing something there, but he's not exactly certain what it is currently.

"About twenty or thirty years in my past, the first computers were created to run calculations faster than humans can. Though massive, they also could store and read data using special punch cards so that way it was--theoretically--easier to keep track of things. As time wore on, the technology improved. I can't explain it precisely, but nowadays computers are everywhere in various sizes, some of them small enough to fit in a woman's purse. Rather than using anything physical, they store information as 1's and 0's that the computer can interpret and manipulate as needed."

It was a very general overview since technology was not Six's specialty. He could work it without having anything blow up, but he didn't trust himself to do anything intricate with it all.

At last they arrived at the cafeteria. "I'll be back as soon as I can."
