Description: Training takes place every morning in the park to prepare the guests of the city for the ongoing war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on Friday, August 13th.

In the right hands, a knife can be a good weapon.

What are you interested in learning how to do?

Defend... I think. Or self-defense. I usually don't go on missions unless it's the larger ones and that's to provide field aid.

Well, learning how to defend yourself is pretty basic but pretty important. Go pick yourself a knife out of the pile over there and I'll do the same. *Auron sets his giant pigsticker aside to get a more practical weapon for this lesson.*

[Looking at the selection of knives, they don't look like any of her cooking knives. In the end, she picks up the bowie knife and comes back.] Does this one work?

That'll work. *Auron has a dagger as it's a good size to work with* First thing is to know the limitations of your weapon.

Knives are easy to use but they're only useful when someone is right on top of you. If you have any distance from anyone, you might as well run.

Right... [She's gotten better at running...]

Since I'm the last person to try protecting the clinic, it would be a close fight. [And she wouldn't run then. She has to protect her patients.]

True. You'll be inside either a hallway or a room. *a sensible way of thinking*

All right. *Auron holds up his dagger.* With a knife, you have two basic attacks. Thrusting it into someone's body and slashing into someone's arm or torso. You can also use it to block a blade much larger but you need the upper body strength and you'd also be sacrificing what a knife works best at: speed.

Speed... okay.

[She bites her lip. Thrusting and slashing... blocking too, but she's better when she has to be fast. She thinks about the anatomy, but then panics slightly] I... don't think I should use medical knowledge like this.

*Auron lowers his dagger.* It's really nervewracking for you to pick up a weapon, isn't it? *He's going to need a different approach.* You work in the clinic but you could perform surgery on someone if you had to, right?

I... don't like the idea of fighting... or killing. But it's what we have to do to help people here.

[Kishin eggs couldn't be talked into backing down.]

Yes. I'm still working on it, but I've gotten better.

Good. Keep in mind that when you use a weapon, you use it to defend yourself and to hurt someone else. If you honestly can't do either of those things, then you'll freeze up when the time comes.
