Description: Training takes place every morning in the park to prepare the guests of the city for the ongoing war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on June 4th.

[Lily was walking around the training area in search of Kanji when she noticed one of those crimson sparks out of the corner of her eye and jumped slightly.] What in tarnation was that?!

[She turned to take a look at where it had come from and that was when she realized it was the surly customer. The one whose clothes felt a bit demonic. And she looked angry, too. Great.]

[Akiha pivoted on one foot and hit a nearby dummy with yet another flash of crimson light. Only then did her eyes rise to look at the source of the voice.

Her.

Akiha's eyes slightly narrowed as she spoke with a slightly lower timbre to her voice.]

Soul Menace.

[Even if the attack was only directed at a training dummy, Lily instinctively took a step back. How was she doing that? It certainly couldn't be normal!]

Soul Menace? [She repeated the words quizzically. With her tendency to avoid the network, she was rather ill-informed about such abilities and hadn't even heard of it before.]

Yes. It's a special technique meisters can learn through resonating with oneself. It's a hard technique to learn and harder to master.

[She turned and struck another dummy, with another flash of crimson.]

Resonating with yourself? But I thought this resonance thing only worked with two people... [She'd never heard anyone mention being able to do it alone before.]

[And seeing the red sparks continue to flash, Lily was really glad this technique wasn't directed at her. She still thought something might be strange about this girl although Kanji didn't seem to think anything was amiss when she questioned him about Akiha.]

That's why it's very hard. Most meister's can't resonate with themselves because it takes a very deep understanding and acceptance of who the meister is to be able to do it.

How does that even work? [She understood making a connection and trying to match the other person's wavelength in normal resonance but didn't see how it would work with just one soul.] And it can damage those demons somehow?

It does. Like anything else, it's more powerful while resonating with a weapon as well, but as to how it works...

[Akiha sighed and relaxed her stance before turning to face Lily.]

It's hard to explain. I think of it as shifting a part of my own wavelength to a slightly different frequency to amplify it in a similar way a weapon does. It's easier when I'm angry.

Sounds complicated. [This shifting one's wavelength and amplifying it didn't sound like something that would come easily. Like how she never had much luck with the concentrating but letting your mind wander needed for successful scrying. She doubted she would be trying to figure out how this Soul Menace worked anytime soon.]

But why would it be easier if you're angry? It seems to me that kind of thing would make your concentration worse.

When angry, I care little for the protocols and restrictions of my upbringing and status, so I don't heed those barriers to my base wavelength.

I'm sure there are some people who cannot manage Soul Menace when angry. It's all about knowing, understanding and accepting yourself.

So, it doesn't work the same way for everyone? Are there a lot of other folks who can also do this? Did y'all just figure it out on your own?

Is your soul the same as mine? That should be answer enough regarding the way it works. But, I'll clarify. Our souls are unique, but it has the same basic building blocks. It's the same for Soul Menace. The very, very basics of working it are the same, but to actually achieve it is unique for each person within those building blocks.

[She flexes her fingers, looking down at them a moment. They're a bit... burned looking.]

It's a rare skill - one Dr. Stein possesses. He decided to choose a very small group of meisters that were interested and had the potential to teach it to. Mastering it is something completely different.

I guess not. [She was pretty sure her own clothes didn't feel demonic as Akiha's had. But then Lily noticed the burnt appearance to her fingers and frowned.]

Are you sure this kind of thing is safe? Your hands look like they've seen better days. [Even working with a Weapon that created flames and sometimes wrapping a hand around one of those fireballs to will it into a dagger shape, she'd never been burnt by Lezard's spells.]

[That name again... So, it was the man with the giant screw through his head who was teaching this.]

It is. I've just overdone my training today and haven't been using live targets.

[She shrugged as if it was nothing.] No cushioning.

[Lily took a step back, looking a tad aghast.]

Live targets? You mean you normally practice on other people?

[ritsu_kouyou]

Not at the level I've reached. [Akiha gave a bit of an annoyed glare.] We did at the beginning when we could barely even give another the equivalent of a static shock. It's too dangerous to use in casual sparring.

It's like electricity then? [Lily was actually decent with electricity back home. Enough concentration and she could make light bulbs come on. But she certainly never tried to shock people with it!]

[And she might have grimaced at the mention of sparring. She had gotten much more acquainted with the grass than she had ever wanted some weeks back when Kiriha had insisted on it.]

For some. It depends on the person's soul.

[Again with the depending on a person's soul... Lezard claimed her soul read of fire and she wondered if that was what would come out if she ever learned this self resonance thing.]

I see. What forms has it taken in others who are learning this?

[ritsu_kouyou]

Ask them. [Said in such a dismissive way.] I didn't care enough to scrutinize the methods of the others.

Well, I guess I'll let you get back to your practice then. [Although she wondered if she should ask around a bit more about this now...]

Thank you. [And that's all Lily gets before Akiha turns and sends a roundhouse kick at a target, a crimson flash sparking at the point of contact.]
