Description: Training takes place every morning in the park to prepare the guests of the city for the ongoing war. It's handwaved most days, but approximately once a month this gets played out in a log. This log takes place on June 4th.

_{[Karkat's busy practicing with his newly acquired sickles, courtesy of Neji and the Watch. He is so fucking excited to have actual weapons, and his weapon of choice at that, even if they're not strictly his sickles. He's quite good at using them, seeing as he's been training with them since he was young, and fighting for his life with them for a great deal of time before he was brought here. Still, he's frowning, completely focused on his moves, because he's rustier than he would like.]}

[nofarplaneyet]

*Auron stands to one side, letting Karkat finish his training before approaching him. Last thing he needs is to lose his other eye while someone's whipping around sharp weapons.*

[redregrets]

_{[It doesn't take Karkat long to spot Auron standing there. Considering some of his friends and enemies can teleport out of fucking no where, this is a big improvement. He approaches, raising a hand in greeting.]} Hey. How's it going?

[nofarplaneyet]

Good. You getting used to your new weapons? *Since he seemed to be gleefully swinging them around.*

[redregrets]

Yeah. Mostly I'm just rusty. I've been training with sickles since I was really young, so it's not like I have to learn any moves or anything. I've missed having them here. It feels weird walking around unarmed.

[nofarplaneyet]

I understand the feeling. *Auron is wearing his gigantic sword behind his back.* I was lucky and someone here in the city was able to craft this for me.

[redregrets]

Holy shit, that's awesome. I just got these through the Watch, but I guess a sword that big would be difficult to find. Who'd you have craft it for you?

[nofarplaneyet]

Someone who's no longer here, unfortunately. A pirate. We haven't had a lot of weaponsmiths here in Death City.

[redregrets]

It's lucky you had it done before they left then. Not many people are capable of wielding a weapon that size.

[nofarplaneyet]

I've had years...well, sweeps of training, in your terminology, to perfect it. It's a bit lighter than it looks but not by much.

[redregrets]

Were you in some sort of army, where you're from? Or does it just pay to be armed?

[nofarplaneyet]

I used to belong to an organization that protected temples from monsters we called fiends. So we used a lot of weapons. When I quit, I still stayed in practice. Where I'm from, there's enough fiends around that being good at a weapon is an asset.

[redregrets]

Fiends huh. What did they want with temples?

[tauborn]

[Takuto isn't really planning to stop and stare but that is exactly what he ends up doing when he notices that Karkat has sickles. Plural.

For a while now Takuto's been feeling very much like Death City's only real dual wielder, so he can't help but watch with wide eyes as the young troll goes through some of his moves.

He doesn't mean to look like a lovestruck stalker, really.]

[redregrets]

_{[He's never had someone stare at him this intensely before. At first, he thinks it must be someone new to Death City who hasn't seen a troll yet, but no, this isn't a look of shock or surprise. Is this kid actually admiring his combat skills? Well, only one way to find out. He transfers both sickles to one hand and heads on over to Takuto.]} Hi.

[tauborn]

[He's only slightly embarrassed that he was caught staring so intently.]

Er, hi! I, um, couldn't help noticing you're a dual wielder.

[He's got Watch-issued weapons as well--identical swords strapped to his back. And then he realizes Karkat has no idea who he is, though Takuto's relatively familiar with the troll after seeing him on the network... mostly before he got sent home and forgot his experiences here. So he holds out a hand.]

I'm Takuto.

[redregrets]

Yeah. I can work with just one, but I'm used to dual wielding. Is that not a popular thing around here?

_{[He takes the offered hand and shakes. Thank god Dave's taught him about human greeting customs.]} I'm Karkat.

[tauborn]

[He's a little put out that Karkat can apparently use one just fine when it's something Takuto struggles with. But never mind that.]

Not really. We had a few others but BREW's sent them home.

[redregrets]

It seems like BREW always takes the best fucking fighters at the most inopportune times. Well, I don't know if you know Dave Strider, but he's been trying out dual wielding too. Dave doesn't normally work with two weapons, usually a sword's his weapon of choice, so he's pretty new at it still, but he's trying to use John and I. John's a hammer, and I'm a sickle, so it's not exactly graceful looking, but it works.

[tauborn]

[Wow this is actually a conversation that he can participate in without coming off as incredibly stupid. His smile grows just a little bit as he nods to Karkat's words.]

I've found it's pretty difficult to wield weapons that are different in physical size and shape, but there's... how to put it... a kind of way it can be balanced by resonance, I think. But the better acquainted the weapons are, the easier dual resonance is no matter the weapon similarities or differences.

I mean, once I had a sword and a 10-sided die as weapons, and under usual circumstances I'd probably have died, but the weapons had been friends for a long time so our resonance was pretty effective.

[And yes, he knows Dave. He believes Dave is a real Texas cowboy, though, and that everyone in Texas rides horses and gets into gunfights at the drop of a 10-gallon hat.]

[redregrets]

Yeah, that's the thing. Dave and John are best friends, Dave's my best friend, and John's one of my best friends too, so we're a pretty good match. Otherwise, I doubt we would have tried in the first place.

How did the dice work? <sub>[He's familiar with Vriska's eight sided dice, but his guess is the dice's abilities were probably different.]

[He will not be surprised when he finds out what Takuto thinks of Dave. He was constantly being fooled by stupid things humans said about themselves before he wizened up, so even if Takuto didn't believe that Dave would probably convince him it was true anyway.]</sub>

[tauborn]

There's a different effect depending on what number he landed on, and we managed to get some good rolls, like a shield or an energy beam. [He shrugs.] But it was tricky because I'm just not used to working with weapons that require a lot of brainpower.

[redregrets]

That makes sense. _{[So it is similar to Vriska's dice, except some of the rolls are defensive.]} How's that require brainpower? You just toss the fucking thing and hope.

[tauborn]

...Well, it's more brainpower than just doing what comes naturally with a sword. [Or at least that's how he feels about it. Don't look at him like that. He knows he's not the brightest bulb but he has his moments of cleverness, too.] With a die have to plan ahead a little bit, like whether you're hoping for a shield or an energy beam.

[redregrets]

But you can't really plan ahead if it's all random. If you plan for a shield, but you get an energy beam, then you're plan is shot to hell.
