It had been a little over a week since the sandstorm, and thus a little over a week since the last batch of newcomers. When the readings indicated that BREW was activating again so quickly, it was a bit of a scramble to get everything prepared. The last time it activated before then was early February, so this really was a small time frame. It had been some time since that happened.

But everyone dutifully prepared just in time for the first arrivals. It was also a relatively good day despite the past few rain showers. At least things were much calmer now.

Anxiety and confusion weren't the visible emotions on one newcomer's face. No, Akiha was furious. Arms crossed and head held high, as if she was looking down at everyone (which she pretty much was doing), the dark-haired girl demanded an answer and she really didn't care who it came from.

"Do you seriously think we're going to believe you when you say that machine thing that brought us here cannot return us until your little war is over?"

"Not really," Kid said simply.

Sadly, it was true. He had gone through this exact same sentiment so many times he's grown rather indifferent about it. Not that he does not understand where they were coming from—he likely would have felt the same were he in their positions, but there came a point when one just had to face the bitter truth.

"You are more than welcome to continue to doubt and speculate, but you will have many who can attest to the truth of this. However," he added, "I do have to make a slight correction. BREW also has a penchant to return people to their worlds at random intervals. So while ending this war is the surest way to send everyone home, there is also that possibility."

At least the 'death god' wasn't stupid enough to think they would automatically believe him because of being a shinigami. His answer, though, didn't make Akiha any calmer. Oh, she looked a bit calmer, but not by much.

"So the options are wait for the chance that may never happen or the war to end. Tch. Preposterous." Akiha's eyes narrowed slightly then. "Does it require your war to be won or simply that it end?"

It seemed like a technicality to some as most would assume ending a war would be winning the war. But not to Akiha. This war was troublesome and she wanted it to end.

"I would imagine that we would have to win, given that my inadvertent wish was to save Death City," he said in his still calm and composed manner.

"That just means it needs to end with Death City intact and safe, that's all." Akiha tossed her hair over her shoulder.

"Fine. I'll help." At least until a better option presented itself.

He was half expecting her to continue or even not bother to help. That sometimes happened.

"You don't have to participate if you don't wish to," Kid said with some mild surprise. "Despite the circumstances, I will by no means force anyone to actually be in this war."

"I want to go home," Akiha practically spat. It was only her upbringing that managed to keep her anger controlled enough that she maintained some control. "I'm not going to wait around hoping someone else ends this war. I'll make sure it happens."

One way or another.

Well. That was a valid reason.

"Very well, then," he merely answered. "Do you have any experience in combat?"

"Yes. And I've dealt with non-human incidents before. My family is responsible for handling them."

Akiha wasn't going to reveal her heritage. She never revealed her heritage, especially someplace she didn't know how it'd be received.

It sparked his curiosity, but he was not going to delve more than he had to. Which was really just wanting to know the bare basics, which she provided.

"In that case then I'm sure you'll be a great asset. You will have to find a partner, however, so I hope you also know how to fight with one."

"Of course, I'm a great asset; I'm a Tohno." Akiha raised her head and sniffed a little. "I've never fought with a partner before but it can't be too hard."

he was going to assume that she was alluding to her family's heritage, which meant she had great confidence and pride in that. Both good and bad, depending on how it went.

"It varies between people, but once you find a suitable partner, it's not that difficult. It's adjusting to how the soul resonance works that is usually the more difficult part."

...yes, that sounded like the hard part.

"Well, you have people to teach that here, correct?"

"Correct," he nodded. "But even the best trainer won't be able to help two incompatible souls. It will be up to the partners to do the brunt of the work—as I'm sure you already know."

Akiha wasn't adverse to hard work when it served a purpose. "How do you know if you're incompatible? The concept of souls isn't foreign to me nor is power stemming from the soul, but compatible... incompatible... that is unknown to me."

Though she was pretty sure she wasn't going to have an easy time finding a partner. She wasn't compatible with most people, so she didn't have a lot of faith that her soul would be.

"Usually if two individuals cannot resonate, there's a rejection reaction," Kid answered. "The Meister will find themselves unable to wield the Weapon and there is a general sense of 'shock' when the souls try to resonate."

He could think of two certain people where that happened. It was not pretty.

"It takes more than just having a good relationship with each other. You must also be willing to trust them and understand how they work."

Akiha mulled that over for a bit.

"...this is going to be harder than I thought. I don't have a lot of tolerance for people."

"I'm sure you'll find someone whom you'll find...tolerable," he finally said. If Excalibur and Black☆Star could find people who tolerated them, then surely there must be someone whom this girl could find that she could somehow bond with.

"Perhaps. I'm not going to hold my breath in wait."

Akiha brushed her hair back over her shoulder. "Thank you for your information. If I think of anything else that others can't answer, I'll come to you."

"You're welcome and please do."

And he really did mean that as he always wanted to help in any way.

Akiha nodded. "Now, if you'll excuse me..."

And she took her leave, following the group to where they were being lead to next. She didn't need to linger there any longer; there was a lot to think about.
